    What is it with people?

Just accept that our astute new owners agree with most Newcastle United supporters - we will expand St James' Park as much as all the money in the world will enable us to, and whatever we do we are staying at St James' Park !!!

The fans want the stadium to stay in the city centre. That is the unnegotiable part. The vast majority of the fanbase would accept relocation to Leazes Park. And if this feasiblity study rules out East Stand redevelopment then I think it's nailed on that the move will be outlined to the supporters.

There may well be a point in the near future when the fanbase are going to have to decide how far they want this club to go and what sacrifices they want to make to get there.

  2. The guy who owns St James' Terrace is interviewed here and all but admits he'd sell it to the club if they wanted to bulldoze it. He also believes it would be allowed to be demolished.

Not what most expected when it came to extending SJP. Be interesting to see the next move if it’s a non starter.

Also agree with this though. The feasibility study could be the catalyst for a new stadium behind Leazes Park.

This mightn't be far off in the end then.

Yep, this seems looks very much how SJP will end up looking I reckon. They will do the Gallowgate when the club's profile & never ending demand for tickets justifies the costs.

It will be aimed at tourists and day trippers. Not young radgies

It will be aimed at the TikTok generation and those who aren’t steeped in decades-old match going habits….be they locals or out of towners. And not everyone out on a Saturday in town is a radgie you know.

Never went in ,so can't comment except it looks fuckin awful on video. I know loads off the top of my head won't be going near any fanzone

It will be rammed with the younger generation of fans, who drink on the Bigg Market/Gate/Collingwood Street on a Saturday night. The old farts will continue to drink in Haymarket/St Andrew’s Street.

Heres a prediction , the fan zone will be instead of enlarging St James Park

No chance. It will all happen in one development I think, albeit maybe in stages. Jamie Reuben already stated in that recent podcast that stadium expansion was an important part of growing the club.

  8. This video is interesting. According to someone in the comments the Gallowgate land is going to be called "Sela City Zone" and they are even considering building a tunnel from St James Boulevard to bypass traffic away from that area.  Whatever happens, it looks like the land is going to be significantly different from the usual bog-standard fan zone.

How would old domestic rivalries be unaffected with only 14 English teams in the top flight? The Manchester and North London derbies would be the only ones you could count on.

I'm with you that it feels like a major shakeup could be coming and it might actually succeed if it's backed by enough money. Hopefully the new CL model is enough to keep everyone happy and PIF remains interested in us / focused on helping a Saudi WC bid so they don't try to LIV football.

Mainly because the opportunity to play at the highest level would remain for every single team in the English pyramid, albeit granted that it would be more difficult to get in. But taking this season, every team down to West Ham would have played in such a league, with Chelsea, Wolves and West Ham relegated and still replaced by Burnley, Sheff Utd and Luton.

Clubs like Bournemouth and Palace would be the ones ejected to make way for them.  It wouldn’t be a 30-club division.

English football is a pyramid.  That’s it’s strength.  And 150 years down the toilet because some would like to see Man Utd play Barcelona twice a year guaranteed.

Nah, I’ll give that a miss.

They wouldn't be though, that's the point. You could have a PL consisting of maybe 14 English teams and 6 European teams. The 3 relegation spots to the Championship would still be there for English teams and a 4th relegation spot for the lowest placed Euro team, who get relegated back to their home league system. It would be like having two leagues combined into one, all fighting for the same prize.

I could probably stomach having 6 foreign teams in the PL as long as the old domestic rivalries remained unaffected.

In reality though a midweek Super League will be what happens, if it ever comes back on the table.

    It’s a hideous idea :)

The whole ‘Super League’ idea needs to be fucked off generally, and I’d think most would not be happy with adding teams to the English league - one consequence of which would likely be expulsion from FIFA

Dunno mind. The fans of clubs like Bournemouth and Crystal Palace probably wouldn't be averse to having the opportunity of being in a league with Barcelona, whilst still maintaining the domestic game & facing their traditional rivals, with relegation and promotion unaffected.

I think all bets are off with regards to what happens over the next 5 years tbh. It feels like the game is about to go truly global and there will be an astronomical amount of money behind it all.

You think the people who won’t allow Celtic & Rangers in because they are not English are going to happy with Bayern Munich, Ajax, and Benfica?

The only reason those two are not wanted is because of their sectarian support. And if they wanted in, they would have to earn it through sporting merit, as they wouldn't be one of the clubs from the other leagues who get a free invite on formation. They could also be relegated from it if they don't meet the standard, as they'd very likely finish bottom of the "euro league" that existed within the PL.

  13. That news about the golf is huge, and I think very good for us. The Saudis are now fully embedded and accepted in world sport and therefore are going nowhere. Meanwhile some of the spotlight is taken off us as we become a smaller fish in their portfolio. Suits me fine. Steady & sensible continual investment & ambition is perfect for us.

I bet UEFA are looking at this news nervously, because if/when the Super League does happen the Saudis will likely be at the heart of it. Wouldn't be surprised if the EPL took on board the big European teams and thus making the Premier League the official Super League, rather than being the unofficial one. I think it could possibly work too, by making the PL ran by the English FA but allowing the big Euro teams to compete in it. Create an extra relegation spot specifically for European teams so that the lowest placed Euro team gets relegated back to their home nation league system. Then their place in the PL is contested for by a play-off competition involving the winners of the other European leagues. It would mean the likes of Real and Barca sacking off their home leagues of course but, as we found out today, huge money talks. Well, I think it's a decent idea anyway. [emoji38]

  14. First time I have watched that lot this season. Enjoyable game and Luton totally deserved that win. See you in 5+ years time hopefully Sunlun. [emoji38]

Well why don’t you think positively. If the fanbase walk into St James’ with an air of negativity on Thursday night, then we’ll suffer as a result.

I'm just looking at what I see in front of my eyes bud. A team that looks to be creaking due to being hamstrung in key positions.

Agree about the fans on Thursday though. Its a season defining game and the team need the same kind of backing that they got which helped them pull away from the bottom 3 last season.

Some spectacular negativity on this forum like… it’s depressing as fuck. You all need to get your confidence up. I pray the players and staff aren’t as defeatist as you. You’re acting as if we’ve had a major drop off in form. We gave Arsenal a good game and on another day would have come away with something, and Leeds was a very tough away game against an emboldened team trying to beat the drop…and we were still only a deflected goal away from winning it.

We have it all in our own hands… we are more than capable of beating Brighton, Leicester and Chelsea. People writing off the Brighton game as if it’s maximum 1 point… it will be a hard game but we are absolutely capable of controlling a game like that. It will be one of the tougher games at SJP for sure, but it’s absolutely doable, especially with the atmosphere…under the lights. Leicester is absolutely winnable (if we don’t we don’t deserve it), and Chelsea is also a winnable game.

Focus on positivity. We can do this in the next 7 days. We just need to stick together and make SJP an absolute fortress!

I thought we were pretty poor against Arsenal to be honest, and wasn't taken in by the "amazing Arsenal" stuff after that game. They were there for the taking that day but we were just really poor in the middle of the park. And then on Saturday we were equally as bad in that area. We aren't playing terribly but we are definitely creaking and to me there is just the feeling that injuries are going to swing momentum away from us.

That doesn’t really follow at all. Brighton is arguably the hardest game left.

It's about momentum. If we don't win on Thursday then that confirms to me that it's swinging away from us. I really hope I'm wrong but I think the key injuries to Longstaff (and Bruno) are going to shaft us.
