  1. A total of 3 people here for the Magpie Group meeting which is in 20 minutes.

Did they even advertise this meeting? Didnt see anything on their website and I didnt receive any email from them giving notice of the meeting.

Only through Twitter, and even then it wasn't getting much traction in the form of RTs or replies. Like neesy's said they've fucked themselves. The tirade they threw at the Chronicle was anguish inducing plus the fact that Greg and Heron have left speaks volumes of where it's at atm.

What "tirade" is this that you speak of? If they had a pop at the Chronicle then it was long overdue as those spineless cowards should have been held accountable a long time ago.

  2. Copied the following post from toontastic and it sums the situation up perfectly for me. For those of us who were around following NUFC in the 70s, 80s and 90s this current situation has officially killed off the NUFC we grew up with and its not coming back either. I simply dont identify with the people who go to SJP anymore. Anyway, onto that copied post.....

I don’t think this is a knee jerk to a poor result at home to a weak side but I feel like Ashley has finally pushed firmly down on the pillow and suffocated this club this season after a decade of holding it just above the club’s nose.

The club has been utterly destroyed, we were a great football club, not necessarily on the pitch or in terms of trophies but we were a proper football club and there was a great connection between club and fan base even in the times we struggled which imo is rare in the modern game.

Football is the highlight of many people’s weeks, I’m not ashamed to admit it can often be the highlight of mine. He’s ripped that from us, I can no longer say it can ever be that to me we’re tragic, utterly tragic. For 10 years we’ve depended on some rough diamond we picked up for cheap turning into a player, then when they do we’ve essentially depended on them to carry the whole team as opposed to building anything around them. I don’t even enjoy watching us anymore, watching players as devoid of any talent such as Joselu plod around the pitch just isn’t football.

There’s no passion surrounding the club, no buzz, no excitement, and there hasn’t been since the first year he bought us, before he decided to drive the club into its first calamities by attempting to disgrace club legends.

I used to love watching football, but honestly my whole passion for it has subsided. I don’t even bother watching Champions League games or keeping track of most scores. I quite regularly have no idea of the placing of other PL sides, as what’s the point? We’re going to be struggling to keep our heads above water like the little, irrelevant, tin pot club we have become.

My whole feeling was summed up this week, I was listening to a podcast and when they were discussing Man Utds comeback win against us one of the pundits said “yeah but I mean it was only Newcastle” it wasn’t an attempted dig, it was just the truth and I took no offense or exception to it, the bloke was spot on. That’s exactly what we are, a club that every team in the league will see as a winnable game. If you told me all this 10 years ago I’d feel sick to my stomach but now I just don’t care, he’s sucked any soul or passion out of Newcastle United Football Club.

What is this all for? What on Earth is the purpose? If it was money he could quite easily make far more elsewhere, if it was advertising he could have spent all he’s invested on far higher profile advertising. I think overall it’s been negative to his company, clearly his image, and obviously the football club.

It’ll be a shame to see Rafa Benitez go, his reign has once and for all proven Ashley will never care about the club, if ever he was going to invest it would be when he had a world class manager at the helm. Instead yet another legend of football has been embarrassed, degraded, and pushed out in an insulting and disgraceful way. That’s Newcastle United.

  3. He should have been pelted with eggs when he came out of that restaurant on Wednesday. An opportunity missed as that is the last time he will allow himself to be in such close proximity to the "proles" of Newcastle without proper protection.

He had two private security men and a dozen police officers with him to walk two yards man...........he's had far less protection around him at games recently.

Aye, I guess I have watched too many politicians getting pelted without any consequences.  Ashley would definitely press charges, the soft cunt.

  4. Despite his smile, I saw a very nervous man in Ponteland the other night........keep up, and crank up the pressure and this cunt will buckle believe you me......he's a spiteful man, but he hasn't got a fighting bone in his flabby body.

He definitely looks nervous around crowds of people he doesn't know or trust. Thinking back now when I saw him in Shearers bar, surrounded by his muscle, on the night when he brought KK back to the club he had a shifty look about him even then. I dismissed it at the time as I was on such a high at having Keegan back but the signs were there. Wouldn't be surprised if he secretly suffers from social anxiety. Bullied at school and now taking it out on the world. Cunt.

  5. I was there tonight. At 6pm there was virtually nobody in the place so was worried that the turnout would be pitiful. Thankfully the room filled out pretty much to seating capacity and there looked to be around 150 people there once it got going.

Chi Onwurah and Ian Mearns spoke well but I was particularly impressed with Kevin Miles, a bloke I will gladly admit to not being a fan of in the past. He was excellent here though and made some very good points.

As Mearns pointed out, this is probably going to be a very long and hard slog to get this parasite out. But the campaign has to grow and tackling the apathy amongst the masses is going to be the greatest challenge of all.

Wasn't sure what to make of the guy with his £50m buy-in scheme. He seemed genuine enough but there was some rolling of eyes in the crowd where I was.

  6. Sickening news. Today is a good day for them, no point pretending otherwise. They will piss league 1 too. In fact, if they had just kept Grabban and bought a half decent keeper they would have stayed up this season.

And these fuckers think they are unlucky? In the aame position Ashley would have wound us up.

  7. That’s a problem that can be dealt with later if needed be.

    Like how?

This is the worst part of the whole sorry saga for me. No matter who the next owner is, our future development as a club has been massively curtailed by this parasite.

It's f*cking shameful how he has been allowed to develop this land to the detriment of the club. Shameful.

At the moment there is no activity on the site and even though it has been approved it has only been done so on the on condition that an agreement with Nexus is made, which so far hasn’t happened. If Ashley’s intent to sell the club is real and he’s prepared to offer that bit of land to the new owners in a separate purchase then he’s not going to develop it any time soon.

If PCP are struggling/reluctant to stump up £300m with no clauses I'd say the chances of them forking out another £60m for the land are pretty slim. And, to be honest, if they dont have plans to expand the stadium that is another potential red flag with this lot.

What’s the score with that piece of land?

He is building student flats on it that will prevent Level 7 being extended to the Gallowgate End. And our inept City Council are allowing him to do it.

Thanks for this btw. I’m probably getting a bit naive these days but I’m start to realise this isn’t about the football with these people.

He would sell off SJP if he could get away with it. Anyway, the plans can be seen here... https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/business/business-news/st-james-park-development-plans-10164835

  10. Whoever said Newcastle is becoming a bit like Leeds/Manchester is right IMO. Far too many sterile looking, cheap and bland buildings popping up in prime real estate areas too. Thankfully I rarely visit the Centre these days, its awful.

I appreciate I am new on here so I say this with all due respect, but you are talking nonsense when you say the city centre is 'awful'. I don't live in the city anymore, but I love close enough that it is always my destination of choice when going shopping etc. with the kids. I love taking them to the places I enjoyed as a young boy: Fenwicks (toy department!), Mark Toney's for an ice cream, Exhibition Park etc.

Yes, I would agree that there is a proliferation of student flats and development that could equally be at home in the likes of Manchester or Leeds, but if you can't see past that to admire the majesty of Grey Street, Grey's Monument and Grainger Town (never mind the units at the ground floor, look up!), or enjoy the likes of Fenwicks (give me that any day of the week over Harvey Nicks) and the brilliant pubs, then that is a shame.

I'm not that well travelled but I've been a few places and nobody will ever convince me that my home town isn't the greatest city on earth.

    And yes I'm biased.

I admire lots about our City Centre, but its becoming a pretty bland and uninspiring place these days for all kinds of things other than the occasional night out drinking and dining. Its focusing too much on students and office space and cheap and tatty shops and it can be awful at times. Although that's largely down to some of the people that inhabit it on a daily basis, beggars, charvers and f***ing charity sales people etc.

I genuinely think remove the Quayside/Central Station area and Grey Street and its just a bland old boring City Centre. Northumberland Street is s***, The Gate is s*** and the Bigg Market and Haymarket likewise. Although I quite like some of the pubs around the Haymarket.

I have probably visited every city and town in England, Scotland and Wales and although Newcastle is great compared to many, compared to say Leeds or Manchester, it certainly isn't the Greatest City on Earth.

I personally would like to see more open space for pop up events and market stalls. I'd like to see less traffic in the City Centre and I'd like to see some new additions aimed at leisure rather than shopping and f***ing eating. How many shops and food joins does a relatively small City need. Things like an ice rink, an open exercise park for example. A water fountain maybe. Less ugly buildings for students and office space, less stupid shops that sell the same s*** as any other but under a different name/brand and less f***ing kebabs and bookies. Its Adelaide Terrace but NE1...

I'm probably a miserable old c*** these days, but the idea of me visiting the City Centre other than for a p*ss up with the lads sounds horrendous.

Me if I was in charge I'd build the world's biggest car park where the Arena is and all that other disused land and run electric buses into Town from there and make it a pedestrian area with more open space. Do away with the daft polluting buses clogging up the roads and other traffic. Similar to Manheim in Germany who has trams and small buses and a nice clean and freed up centre.

Agree with a lot of this. Also, people bang on about Grey Street & Granger Town but the truth is that the buildings are actually in horrendous shape. Next time your out in town take a look up at the buildings. They are rotting & crumbling away and look absolutely filthy. The unpalatable truth is that the central part of the city centre is in a bad way. Newcastle City Council are a shockingly absentee landlord and think the answer is to just build as much student accomodation on prime locations as possible. Appalling.

  11. Don't think the building in the picture is the problem, think it's the one further back that is the biggest problem as it's further forward and would be close to the footprint of an expenasion of the gallowgate. However Nexus are trying to get it moved further back because the current location would prevent an West end expansion from SJP Metro station.

If either of the two proposals above are how it ends up then NUFC are screwed. Honestly, in 32 years of following NUFC I've seen plenty of heartbreaking moments....relegations, selling off local superstar players, blowing 12 point leads, Keegan being forced out etc etc but none of it hurts more than this. And that's because the damage done by ambitionless owners, inept managers & players, relegations & cup loses can all be repaired but this cannot be. Once it's completed it will be permanent. On of the most iconic city views is taken away forever and NUFC's status ceiling as a second tier Premier League club is cemented, destined to never again compete with the current top seven clubs in England. Hell, even Sunderland could eclipse us one day as they have ample room to expand to 60,000 and beyond.

When this abortion of a development is finished the vast potential that everyone feels has always been there, lying dormant, within NUFC is gone.

Is nobody else here absolutely raging at the sight of this photo? What happened to the claim that this monstrosity would not hamper any expansion of the Gallowgate end?

This photo confirms the death of any hope of NUFC becoming a top player again in the Premier League. Ashley is about to wreck our future, permanently. His legacy will be here forever, long after he has gone. And our utterly inept City Council are going to let him do it too.  :'(
