If you already feel a connnection to the team, you're probably already a fan. Watch a few games, if you scream at the TV as if Ramage can hear you, go buy a shirt.
I was in the same situation when I was looking for a team to support. Since I'm in he US, I feel no local connection to any of the teams. The first full match I ever watched was Liverpool v AC Milan. I was "this" close to becoming a fan of Liverpool until I realized how big a deal winning the Champions League was. I didn't want to jump on a bandwagon, so I waited for the next season to decide. Watching teams the next season, I was only certain of a few things: Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal were not options. I figured if I was ever going to be a true fan, I would have to support the worst team I saw. At the time, thanks to Souness and Boumsong, that was Newcastle. A few weeks later, when N'zogbia hit a free kick to break a goalless streak, I didn't even realize that I had jumped out of my chair in delight.
Ever since then, I've been in for the duration.
