  1. Wasn't really like that, tbh. Newcastle were the worst I saw, and even though the game was still a mystery to me, I knew that there would be ample time to learn the ins and outs of the sport while they struggled. Once I ended up here and had instant access to team developments, that's when the love really started. As for the sport itself, that Liverpool-Milan final was unbelievable, man.
  2. No club listed on Wiki. Are you sure you're not thinking of Zico? He was interested in the job as well, but ended taking another job.
  3. Because until he gets the job and either fails or succeeds, no manager can ever be safe here. Until we know for a 100% certainty that Shearer is not up for the job, his name will always be first for some reason. I disagree. Now that Shepherd's gone (he always had a personal thing for the idea which undermined Robson to one degree or another), he only comes up because things are going badly here. A manager enjoying success will be safe - it's just that we've not had one of them for a while. I have to confess ignorance about the good times. My knowledge of the club is pretty much just Souness-Kinnear. I always feel sorry for you when this comes up. Its like a child born only in the wake of an apocalyptic nuclear war That's a hell of a way to put it. I also started following this club seriously about a week before Sir Bobby was sacked. Great timing You know that means we're the problem, right? Because until he gets the job and either fails or succeeds, no manager can ever be safe here. You missed out on a golden age with Sir Bobby. Became a fan of the sport after the 2005 CL final. Decided to support the worst team I saw.
  4. Good point, I'm gonna change it. Would be out for murder if that happened to me. Part of me doesn't want you to. Think they'd value that brief moment of joy.
  5. Title makes me feel bad for all the people that wake up tomorrow thinking has been sacked.
  6. Fatih Terim because he looks like he owns a strip club.

  10. Sounds likely. Kinnear is a fucking relic like most of his signings. If Ashley backed him against Wise when he wasn't prepared to do it for Keegan we can only assume the lard is seeping into his brain. It's unbelievable enough to be fucking true.
  11. All that matters for me. You'd want Shearer? Can you really blame us for wanting Shearer? Local hero, motivated, honest, should have the players respect and, most importantly, not Joe f***ing Kinnear. Wasn't blaming you, of course it makes sense looking at it that way, it's just my opinion that I can't see it working out, at the present time. He just has to be better than Kinnear, which would mean keeping us up fairly comfortably. Most of us would see that as a successful start. And should we be relegated under him, we will all just blame it on Kinnear/Ashley anyway, and he'd still be given a chance in the Championship. I can also see a lot more players wanting to stay should the worst happen if Alan was in charge rather than Joe. I just want it to happen so that it's over with. He'll either take us forward, or we'll be able to move on.
  12. If this means the end of Kinnear, then do it fast.
  13. That's how bad he was. He was traumatic enough for us all to just collectively erase the memory of his play. You figure given the garbage football we play now, he can't help but be an improvement, but you're so very much wrong. I remember when he played up front last year, and he spent most of the match behind the fucking midfielders.
  14. If Smith saves our season I'll eat the biggest hat you can find. Actually you can fill the biggest hat you can find with shit and I'll eat that. That's how certain I am that it'll never happen. Odds on more bookings than goals again for Smith this season? mackems.gif That's better, nothing like a bit of Smith bashing to cheer up a fucking awful day! Smith saving the season would easily be the most bizarre development possible.
  15. It appears not. Unprofessional from top to bottom. Am I wrong to think he wasn't watching the matches? I mean, I can't remember exactly when Guthrie got hurt, and Barton had only just come back before getting hurt again. The Nolan deal came out of nowhere after that game.
  16. I can't stop thinking about the Given deal and the two alleged 8m bids. Why was there no sense of urgency until Ashley started going to the matches again?
  17. Because it was concluded close to the deadline, and involving another player would be another hurdle. If the player coming our way backed out at the last minute, Man City would risk not getting Given. Also, Man City weren't especially keen on giving us one of their decent players. We had the negotiating advantage, I think. They needed Given in by a specific time so they could include him in the UEFA cup squad. They were obviously keen to sign him, and probably couldn't have gotten another keeper of similar talent from somewhere else signed in time. So why not be firm? Why not demand Johnson or another player is included as a part of the deal? Worst case scenario is that Given stays until July.
  18. I'm overthinking it, I know...but it makes us looks like fools, imo.
  19. i dont understand why we let him go and THEN tried to do the deal for Johnson. totally baffling. This is the mystery of the day for me.
  20. I don't understand why there wasn't a player included in the deal.
  21. I think I already know why, but I still have to ask why Xisco isn't in the OP.
