  1. Arjen Robben has been ruled out for the next 2 months with an injury. Can see Bayern struggling at the start of the Bundesliga even more now considering they had so many (13) players at the World Cup till the end. Will make the Bundesliga more exciting with Schalke, Hamburg and Leverkusen all stronger than last season.
  2. We'll see who'll be captain this season and for how long. Hughton still could have brought Butt back. In the 08/09 season he was played for almost every game despite looking not up to the job. And yes, Owen was "only" dropped for one game. That was also Hughton's last game as caretaker caretaker manager. It amazes me that people use the dropping of Butt as ammunition for Hughton. Only a complete imbecile would have had him in the starting lineup regularly. Shearer and Kinnear both had him in their starting lineups week in week out. Hughton was the first manager who dropped Butt since Allardyce. Shearer and Kinnear were complete imbeciles. Yeah, surely.

Probably because the league is too physical. Playing against the likes of Stoke or Blackburn is much harder for a technical player than playing against teams like Hannover, Cologne or St. Pauli in the Bundesliga.
  6. We need quality in CM. Giving Nolan the armband is a sign he wont solve that imo. Giving Nolan the armband means nothing tbh. Last season Butt was captain and was on the bench for the majority of the season (if he was in the squad at all). Nolan deserves a chance in the Premier League after he played such a big part last season. If he fails to perform on a certain level than Hughton will drop him. I've got no doubts about that tbh. He did the same with Butt last season, he also dropped Owen in the 08/09 season.
  7. I could imagine that Jonas would be a bit of the pace come the start of the season. He's just back from his holidays and will lack a fair bit of pre-season training.
  8. Not in those games towards the end of the 07/08 season. Enrique was left back then.
  9. One goal disallowed? Iirc Owen scored a hattrick that day but only got one goal allowed.
  10. Aye, him wide right with Nolan and Barton in the centre and Enrique covering the whole left hand side with a bit help from Barton. Barton & Enrique were in the KK 4-3-3 as well iirc.
  11. Hope for something like: Krul Perch Coloccini Williamson Enrique Routledge Nolan Barton Vuckic Carroll Lovenkrands/Shola A bit like the 4-3-3 under Keegan. I just would want to see if it would actually work with our current players. Won't happen, though.
  12. He's back: http://cache4.asset-cache.net/xc/103151990.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=77BFBA49EF87892102A727B1636DE2E6DDF3F73240581B5308A399BE5BFBA88B07AEA025153AD82A

Dietmar Hopp doesn't own the club. That's not allowed in the Bundesliga. He's only allowed to own 50 % at maximum. He just invests some money into the club. And they have changed their strategy over the last few years. They signed Hildebrand (who isn't a household name, but was well known before, at least in Germany), Simunic and Ibertsberger. I think they are interested in Ben Arfa. Ralf Rangnicks's statement would suggest so anyways. (he was praising Ben Arfa few days ago) Weren't Hildebrand and Ibertsberger both frees? And all of those players are Bundesliga based. I don't see them holding that much of an advantage over us tbh, money would be their only bargaining chip and they have never used it in the past really. Don't know. Could be that both were free, though. That's why I said they "signed" them and not "bought". Was just pointing out that they don't only sign unknown players anymore, like they did from 2005 - 2008.

So in other words, even if Ben Arfa prefers Newcastle, we'd have to match a bid by a club with bottomless funds if he wants that choice. Not going to happen. How do you get that from such jibberish? I don't get how people couldn't. 90% of that is understandable, and the blanks are easy to fill. I think you're filling in far too many blanks to come up with that translation. I don't see how. Yes, all of that is clear enough, what isn't at all clear from that is how much say the player will have in the move (especially if its a loan). Well Marseille have a say on which bids to accept or reject, and Ben Arfa has a right to sign for one club or another. But unless Ben Arfa is desperate to go to another club, one of the richest teams in the world, playing in the Bundesliga is always going to be in the lead. Wouldn't agree with that. The Bundesliga has become stronger over the last few years, but many players (and fans) still regard the Premier League as the best/hardest league in the world and would join it over any other league.
  16. coca cola have had it for 4 years, now npower now. Sponsorship will always change while business change the way they advertise and market We were really lucky then that we've been relegated right in time. I would have been disappointed if my Newcastle shirt would have had npower on it instead of CocaCola.

    La Liga - 10/11

I'm looking forward to hear you after seeing those sort of pictures again: http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/02gudsS2Uz0p1/x610.jpg http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/08MefUy8wOatR/610x.jpg

I think at least 6 milion... It's a big bet but he can be a very good player... Thanks. Would be very impressive if we made that signing.

Real will win. They have Mourinho.

Haven't really followed this whole story as I always thought we won't sign him anyway. So, if we signed him, at which costs would it be? 5 million?
  21. Owen and Martins were 10 times better than what they were under all the other managers. We could include Viduka in there as well. The defence looked solid against Man Utd and Bolton. And Jonas looked like a different player once he played again under Kinnear (in a negative way)
  22. No. Under KK we would have been better than Fulham, who finished 7th. Better than Spurs who had a shit start to that season under Ramos.
