Yeah, maybe you're right. However, the Larsson deal is a bit different as it would be using the window and his contract situation to get a decent player for a good price. I'm confident in the ability of our first XI to get a few more wins yet. However, a couple of injuries anywhere on the pitch and we'll be losing week in week out. We have seen before how teams can spiral after christmas, and with the nature of the league this year it can happen to anyone. West Brom were up around the champions league spots not long ago and winning loads of plaudits, now they're 2 points off bottom. We've been fortunate that key players such as Enrique, Tiote, Coloccini, Barton and Carroll have not missed many games. But look at the games they did miss - we dropped points. Bring in Perch, Smith, Guthrie, Routledge and we're a different animal altogether. West Ham and Wigan was a vital 6 points but it papered over the cracks in terms of our squad. Can this squad get us through the season, or will a few injuries/suspensions see a dramatic dip in form? I'd rather not chance it, and feel even just one player such as Larsson would make a big difference to our options and our chances over the next 5 months. You only have to see Pardew's team selection against Stevenage to know he doesn't have faith in any of them even against League Two opposition. funny but oldtype's post got me looking at the fixture list for the rest of the season, first time i've done it i'd say we have 14 points in us at home, let's say 12 if i turn a couple of predicted draws into losses that keeps us up - 4 wins at home only (or equivalent) - so long story short oldtype is right, we only need 4 wins to stay up so i wouldn't be going apeshit to sign people this window especially if we have targets for the summer who'll be better in the long run

we got room for 2 cheiks? especially if this dude has a crazy head too...

being a viable self-sustaining business?

If so, Larsson is not the answer anyway. fucking hell i'd like to think the barton(or larson)-carroll-nolan axis is not the foundation for our future as a football club frankly i'm amazed it's lasted so long this season - won't last forever though, no matter how good bartons delivery and carrolls arial prowess we need a plan b, and a plan c at that!

and the liverpool reference, as i understood it, was as we're at the same level as them now their fans would think he was a shit signing so should we
-
why? maybe he wants to play for us but didn't like what he heard about the ambitions of the club and is thus taking his time to mull it over things are not always black and white man
-
Nah aside from the Stevenage embarassment (including wrongly playing Tiote), nothing bad has really happened. He could use more discretion in airing some of his views but I suspect that is just his style and it's no big tragedy. It's more like a bunch of people who are desperate to be proven right on how bad Pardew is gonna be, that are jumping on every little thing he does to criticize him. Unbelievable that after we beat Liverpool, Wigan and thrash West Ham, that fans are still not willing to give him a chance. I'm not saying give him a blowjob, but at least be honest give him credit when its due and see how things pan out first before playing the Souness card. thought so, this interested me in the top flight has he proven himself to be a mug? did well with WHU when they came up first season, second season there were a lot of mitigating circumstances for what happened at both WHU & CA imo i think he DOES have to prove himself with this chance he's been given like, keeping us up comfortably and making steady progress next and i think he'll be doing OK

Enrique seems to play a very risky game at times for a fullback, Man City game in particular highlighted it to me but I've noticed it before. In ones on ones he often lets the full back put the ball past him and relies on his pace and strength to recover before they do any actual damage. He did it so often with Milner against Man City I frequently sat there wandering what the fuck he was doing but he recovered on pretty much every occasion to stop him somehow, wasn't always pretty. Not sure if he could pull that shit if he stepped up in class and start playing CL football, he'd get raped.

what's happening now, we're turning against Pardew 'cause he's mouthy, is that it? i just want to be clear so i'm on board - before leaving the UK to come back here i thought he'd handled the press well and we'd beaten wigan & west ham quite nicely to pull away from relegation a little bit what changed, is he blaming players publicly for defeats? souness-esque that like
-
that implying people are making excuses for him for not performing? No, me implying he was played out of positionin the WC iirc, could have been a reason why he didn't "perform" when he infact was one of their best players anyways, just missed that extra touch. he should be good enough to adapt to slight changes to his position imo, as long as the team around him are at least functioning in some way normally look at the dutch, setup to murder teams they came up against but that gave robben freedom to exploit the flank and sneijder freedom to roam about...fuck knows what maradonas gameplan was with regards messi and the team in general actually it was clear he didn't have one
-
that implying people are making excuses for him for not performing?
-
yeah maybe, i prefer to think it's 'cause they're a total fucking shambles all the time and never ever have a set gameplan that will exploit his abilities that's just me though - agree that the argie midfield is not in the same league as xavi/iniesta mind, something in that no doubt
-
if you're taking international games into account they should probably anoint Messi King of all football past, present and future given the trail of fuckwits and divvy's he's had mismanaging him for the Argies to date 2010 was another fucking joke for the lad tbh, given half a chance he probably could carry a team like maradona did he's just unfortunate enough to always have bellends running the team
-
why do you think it's just scoring goals that won him it? he's a fucking genius man, the best player in the world - if it was just goals in a shit league where was cronaldo?
-
souness no? doesn't that explain everything?
-
So Iniesta should have won it then by that logic more than likely, given it's the bigger of the 2 prizes? Sneijder won 3 trophy's but imo only an inter fan could say he should have been standing there instead of any of the 3 barca players. Any one of them could have won it ahead of Messi, for me it should have been Xavi but there you go.
-
Messi is a better player than Sneijder so everyone should be happy
-
traced this back through the pages and i totally agree with this bit messi is the better player for me, there was an article recently in a broadsheet tearing into something marca wrote about Cronaldo being the better individual, wish i could find it now, shame

'bout right then
