  1. Last season Milner contributed a grand total of two assists to Newcastle - fewer than renowned creator Joey Barton - and boasted a cross completion rate of just 18.39% - worse than ace flankers Stephen Hunt, Eddie Lewis and George McCartney. Newcastle won a mere 24% of the matches in which Milner featured, compared to 44% of those in which he didn't play. i'll just post this from the guardian's fiver for a bit of perspective! 12m....ba ha ha
  2. yup! happy days, good deal can't wait to see who we replace him with
  3. it's an interesting one that, why did the club go public? because they agreed a deal with another player and wanted to force villa to bid for milner against everton uppping the fee... fookim hope so! But i thought we had funds available regardless? me too!!
  4. The last 72 hours of a transfer window are always when things happen. There are some big deals waiting to go through still, and there will be some which will happen which nobody saw coming. I'm actually going to book Tuesday off work so I can watch the coverage throughout Monday night with a few beers Final word of consolation - you, Villa (paper thin squad), Everton (more than anyone), Spurs (strikers), West Ham (anyone), Blackburn (sold their two best players and not replaced them properly), Portsmouth (spent all their money), City (spending money they dont have) - all in a very similar position going into the last few days of the window. All will become much clearer by Tuesday morning. brummie, great balanced and reasoned post...you can always be relied upon to play devils advocate on NO as a means to balance your thoughtfulness i'd just like to echo afar and say i don't give two fucks about the bit in bold really, nor should anyone else NUFC-related, it's worst argument i hear on this board; "well we desperately need an ACM (for example) but look at everton, they've found it difficult to get one too so it makes us not having one OK" i struggle to find a comparable argument people would deem acceptable in any other walk of life, i don't know; "i need to meet my mortgage repayments but they're a little higher than i'd like due to interest rates and seeing as other people aren't paying theirs for some reason i'll default on mine too 'cause it must be OK"? doesn't work does it? look that's a stupid, facetious argument but it makes my point quite well we have to look after ourselves, as you point out yourself other clubs are having trouble and have thin squads or other problems - i see that as an opportunity to exploit, not an excuse for mediocrity I take your point, but I'm not saying the fact that other clubs are struggling makes it acceptable not to be able to do anything. I'm just saying that the fact that they are perhaps provides a reason as to why they and Newcastle are struggling to get players in at the moment. i know everyone, well the clubs you and others refer to, struggle because everyone is trying to get a good deal in the window...i understand that 100% i just think there comes a point where getting a good deal becomes outweighed by the threat of not getting in the players you need we (NUFC) are fast approaching that point...

  6. I understand the 'defensiveness' towards criticism of our club, I have reacted like that a million times (perhaps 10 million times) before - but we are in a mess. Denying it, getting upset about it, making comparisons to 'times in the past', and sticking your head in the sand generally, doesn't help! There is something wrong at our club, there is something very "smelly" going on there (can't think of a better way to describe it) - quite simply, all is not as it should be. Look at their faces and the words and body language. I have seen organisations like this before - ill at ease with themselves and with eachother. Things not happenning, significant progress not being made in the way that it should be. I do not know what can be done now (a few last minute - even BIG - signings will not cover up the cracks). And, how likely is that (even) to happen. Keegan's man-management skills with the players has helped get us some reasonable performances - not great performances - and some decent results from those performances . . . so far. When the injuries and suspensions come in with our tiny squad though - we will struggle. We shouldn't even be considering 'struggling' - we should be taking steps to PROGRESS. That is what is wrong with the club, but the reasons WHY it is so wrong at the club at the moment - we are not privvy to, we can only speculate. But, lets not hide from the truth . . . Yes our squad needs additions and yes I am a little uncomfortable with the role of Wise and him being based in London etc. but really, I don't think things are anywhere near as bad as you put it. The team we have fielded this season is strong, and we have Viduka and Carroll still to add to that. With 2 or 3 more good signings I will happy with the squad until January at least. Look at Liverpool, they are supposedly challenging for the title and Champions League on top of what we are playing for, they only have one first teamer currently injured, and look at their bench the other night: Cavalieri, Dossena, Agger, Plessis, Spearing, El Zhar, Babel. If you listen to Ashley's reasons for Wise being based in London it would make no odds whether he was sat behind a desk in SJP or in London. In many ways being in London is a benefit (easy access for initial meetings with Agents etc) and could be one of the reaosns why there have been fewer leaks this summer (agents/players not being flown into Newcastle Airport etc) I think there are other reasons why there have been fewer leaks this summer.
  7. if we had 3 targets lined up and the selling clubs wanted, say, another 1m per deal to sell in this window do you think we should pay it? or spend nothing on principle and start the season with what we've got? assuming they're first choice targets of course rather than last minute panic attacks Why capitulate when there's still time to negotiate better terms? Don't you think that's happening right now? good non answer; i meant when push comes to shove on monday you know? i don't mean just bend over and get fucked but if it's a matter of we need to pay 3m extra to get 3 players we want then do you think we should do it just hypothetical man, not legally binding or anything!

  9. whoop dee fucking doo, the club have marginally improved (1st team playing staff wise) upon some of our darkest seasons since joining the PL you don't take much pleasing you Would you rather go back to the summer of 2005? 2006? Of course the club is being better managed then during Freds last couple of seasons to your question of course not, to your point i agree but i'm saying using that as a yardstick with which to judge ourselves now is ridiculous...most people berate shepherd for running the club into the ground, we were heading for relegation & financial ruin etc... now that might be true and it might not, but to say mike ashley is running things better than that so it's all OK is a weak system of judgement as for the "villa model" gambling why do we have to wait? they appear to be about to take their spending over 20m yet we MUST have 2-3 seasons of parsimony before we can match them, why?
  10. I'm not watching this year's. All the South Korean teams are out who do you support in the K league oldtype? i'm a daejeon citizen guy by virtue of living there FC Seoul. By virtue of... ummm... living in Seoul. Domestic league glory hunter ftw! (Slightly ironic, as we haven't actually one anything in a while.) never see games these days, work out of the country and am barely there now - strange team daejeon, one minute i check them they're doing well the next they're fucked and at the bottom of the table keep selling their best players from what i can gather
  11. Looks like "Case closed" in few hours then. Sad. But as the prosess turned out, I would have been in doubt of Milners motivation with playing for Toon. So now: Bring in a replacement. Even if it cost all what we got for Milner fuck it, weve got money for the right guys apparently, chuck in another 5-7m & go for maxi rodriguez, get saviola on loan (ahem) and some random CM we're fucken laughing all the way to corned beef heaven

  13. That's more or less exactly what Ashley said before about Keegan. we know, but the assumption has to be KK hasn't asked for any players then Dave, if we don't sign them of course, right? and if KK, the man who signed shearer for a world record fee, is offered a blank cheque for players and just chooses not to use it 'cause he's got duff, smith & shola in reserve then he's a changed man a changed man indeed {there is of course the argument that players won't join us because of our recent history, but i don't buy into that as easily as some}
  14. whoop dee fucking doo, the club have marginally improved (1st team playing staff wise) upon some of our darkest seasons since joining the PL you don't take much pleasing you
  15. i'm the same but for damien duff, he's doing his bit to set ireland's image back 100 years with bumbling fucking buffoonery
  16. i might ring 'em up, see if i can get a game
  17. fuckn right man...for 10m someone remotely competent should be able to get us a quality player i like fernandes personally as well, would fit in well with our game imo
  18. i know, i asked him ages ago who she was so i could start hunting her down (not literally ) on the internet but never found out new thread? "find this woman, somebody, pleeeeeeeeeeeease...!"
  19. i did say it was a stupid analogy mate using yours though, what if you had the money and really needed that car for work? you could buy a cheaper car that would get you to work but you already have one of those anyway and it's not very good, the one you want will do the same job only a lot better and might well end up getting you a promotion 'cause it creates a better impression wouldn't you pay the going rate for that car? i would assuming i had the money, which returning to non-bullshit land for a minute we're told is no issue for NUFC right? everything has it's price I reject the entire "if you want* a player bad enough then pay whatever you have to" school of thought. We don't know exactly how much money is there but there's no sense in spunking, say, 40m on Arshavin or 30m on Turan just to get them through the door. I question the mental faculties of anyone who thinks otherwise. you were doing so well too! then you retreated into the fallback position of jumping to the massive conclusion i must be demanding we spend 30m on one player, far from it actually as i truly believe there has to be a balance struck between prudence & extravagance i'll get crucified for it again but as it stands our net spend this summer is <10m i'd say without having exact figures of course and that is not a good balance really is it? to me spending 20m on 2 more players (ST & ACM) for example who are genuine class the likes of colo & jonas would be a nice balance between being financially prudent & extravagant with signings, now if to make both of those deals happen before monday we have to increase say up to 22m then i think it needs doing because the alternative doesn't really bear thinking about alternatively if we could get the same two players for 10m combined, or 5m or whatever i'll be as happy as anyone but it's pretty fucking unlikely isn't it? we need players and only ashleys people can do anything about it
