  1. his all round play CAN be poor. Just as Owen's can be non-existant His all round play IS GENERALLY poor is closer to the truth tbh. Owen's contribution CAN be non-existent. Do you see the difference? And I think most can see it but don't like to admit it. your truth is my lie then, that's life he was immense at old trafford last week imo...yesterday i felt he suffered (as he does a lot at home) from tight marking/being crowded out there are DIFFERENT types of player you know? martins strength in one area is another strikers weakness...that's why you need strikers of varying styles martins will excel, and did at the end of last season, when he's got space to exploit but at home he's less likely to get that playing on his own than he would be with owen or viduka...duff was with him yeserday and was utterly unable to do anything to create space for martins to use to me your argument is like critising a big physical CB who is very good in the air for being shit on the ground, or a smaller attacking FB for not being as good in the air name me some COMPLETE strikers in the english game these days...i can think of torres, maybe drogba, most everyone else i can think of have gaps in their game and in that i include being injury prone Sorry like but you don't get to say that there aren't many complete strikers in the game, so it's ok for Martins to have gaping holes in his. that's not actually what i said though is it gemmill? try again Looks a lot like what you've said to me. You asked me to name complete strikers, presumably to prove your argument that there aren't many, therefore it's ok for Martins to not be one. I responded by pointing out that Martins is far from just not quite being the complete striker. I've conceded that he'll get the odd goal because he's quick and can exploit spaces but I think that we can expect a lot more from him when he's required to get involved in the match. For instance, I'm a big fan of footballers who can control the ball and then find a teammate with a pass. Which precludes me from being a big fan of Martins. i'm a big fan of footballers who actually earn their money on the football pitch for the club that pay their wages, which precludes me from being a big fan of michael owen we could do this dance all day...i don't actually believe the above but it highlights strange your point is, to pick this facet when it's not actually the main part of martins game, some of the best goalscorers in the past have had limited games (rush, lineker et al) i think i've made my case reasonably well but i'll repeat it - we've got a striker who can do a few things very well and other teams struggle to cope with him when he does them (martins) & we've another 2 strikers who are the same but for different reasons (owen/viduka) why aren't you complaining about owens inability to stretch opposing teams with his devastating pace? because he can't do it anymore, it's not his game, it's martins's i can see your point, totally, but it's a moot one imo when you're asking a player to perform a function that's not his strength then criticising him for not being great at it as for your point in bold i guess it precludes you from being a fan of nicky butt, damien duff, james milner & alan smith as well? or are they somehow immune to this? why pick martins, he's more of a threat than anyone in our squad except arguably owen (i don't see spiderman having proven it yet)

  4. shit, i missed the smiley too!
  5. I think you're a racist tbh Assuming this isn't a joke, you should be insta-banned for this. And I'm not in the habit of requesting that people get bans. But this site bans for insults and that's one of the worst you can brand someone with. You f***ing prick. you assumed very wrong, lighten up you missed the smiley ronaldo, posts have no inherent validity or worth without a smiley

  8. not really sure where this is going, surely oldtype was comparing spurs laughable start to ours given the fact they've spent 40m+ on "names" personally i think we're functioning well as a team but lack a bit of magic in the obvious areas and are carry a little too much dead wood in duff/milner/smith when he plays can't remember who said it but replace duff & milner with players who have an end product and we'd be a very dangerous team, as it is a lot of stuff breaks down with them right now but we're still functioning pretty well regardless imo
  9. amused that someone thinks Huntelaar would be a wow signing...anyone who hasn't played FM probably hasn't heard of him i'd probably go "wow" but the average toon mannie on the street would probably say "who"?
  10. agreed on all counts you think our squad looks a lot better as it is right now? you what? isn't he saying we've a more balanced squad/team rather than an average team with a couple of star names? that's how i read it anyways... i think he's on about the type of squad rather than the size, i.e. we're adding quality across the squad albeit at a rate i'm not so happy about maybe i've read it wrong
  11. Good post. It's laughable the stick that Owen gets when Martins who yeah, he'll get the odd goal for you because he's quick and occasionally it seems to dawn on him how to use his pace effectively, but his all around play is in the main shit. Honestly we're a man down a lot of the time with the amount he gives the ball away or just does brainless shit and then fucking stamps his feet like a bairn and tries to blame someone else for it. Owen is top class and it is essential that we sign him up. Even if he gets a payrise. seems like wild assessments of both players is in the air today boys! everyone knows how good owen is, major issue people have is he's made of glass as i see it martins isn't even close to being as bad as you two make him out either, but nor is he a world beater...for me when you look at liverpool with kuyt and that ukranian martins pisses all over the two of them, and they're title chasers apparently so he's good enough
  12. As above. 3 points and we didnt play well. Surely thats a good thing if we can grind out 3 points vs anti football teams??? I was there and we werent nearly as bad as half of the posts in here make out. certain players were hopeless this. no issue with most of what we saw yesterday, just with say 1-2 performances really that were really very poor in indeed, in duff's case i can't find the words to be honest...at least if we actually only started the game with 10 men there'd be more space for real footballers positives to keep people happy though; played as a team, battled a physical team, spidey, colo, beye, guthrie, owen amongst others, oh and given of course!
  13. the thing is they write articles based on "commonly-accepted" facts rather than researching properly and writing stuff that's real, so for years now (PL era) they've built NUFC up as the club with the "best fans in the world", 52,000 of whom turn up week-in-week-out regardless of what's on show 'cause they never win trophies...automatons who have no life outside of waiting for the next match and getting pissed on the biggmarket the fact that, for a number of reasons, we've now not done so doesn't warrant them reasearching the reasons why crowd no's might have fallen for ONE GAME, they'll just trot out what makes a nice easy, headline grabbing article for arseholes in the south to read fuckpigs
  14. have to say ha ha to spurs but it won't last, they'll make a few more moves in the market and get it together to some degree the thing is they've lost 2 games against teams they'd expect to be beating in chasing their goal of 4th place, the more of these type of games they lose before turning it around the harder it will be for them to recover when they play the manu's & chelski's of this world not mention the likes of us/villa/everton they need a result, quick really, personally hope they don't get it but not arsed either way
  15. Replace Duff and Milner with players who can deliver end product and that team becomes a lot more dangerous. the absolute truth. duff was a travesty yesterday, an anti footballer...when he got hurt i really couldn't help but think nasty thoughts milner, all work no end product, ever... on the AM note i think we saw owen make a big difference (aside from the goal) when he came on simply 'cause his ability to find space appears to not be limited to the box, when we're coming forward he drops neatly in between the oppositions MD & DF, protects the ball when it's played into him and that then creates the space for other to make runs and gamble pity we can't rely on him for fitness as if we could (as much as you ever can i suppose) then a good CM would suffice plus a saviola type who can play both FW roles for when owens injured...in fact that would do anyways for me, a beardsley-esque player is the priority, not an orthodox CM with better passing; arshavin basically
  16. i've always liked optimism Duff sold for £1-2m with SWP coming in would be great business, £5-7m for Duff would be delirium! slugsy, you would quite literally be dead in the universe where duff went for more than 2m
  17. aren't they on about the wrong players once the question was asked? mixed up who they were referring to... gooch = liege pocognoli = alkmaar
  18. been said before but the man city situation beggars belief, if that was us they'd have legions of press camped outside the ground looking for stories like pigs & truffles we'd have been crucified, they're not being, not even close - says it all really
  19. god damnit i hate our strip this season
  20. given manu & arsenal if we get 6 point from the first 4 games it's a good start imo win tomorrow and we could be looking at 7-8 once the hull games over (can't see us getting much at arsenal personally, as good as we were on sunday) and it'll be a massive confidence boost to players & fans just need to bury these anti-football merchants tomorrow to get properly started
  21. change the thread title to "the love is back" for me dave my interest in/love of football generally, combined with how abject we'd become recently, had basically crashed through the floor i'm loving it again, got a new lease of life...amazing what one game can do for you; we might never challenge for the title again but as long as the people in charge (manager up to owner) continue to act in the way they have been and we make good football the priority for NUFC i'm sold
