There seems to be no appreaciation for poetry these days. Poetry died when Roald Dahl did for me.

So... what does everyone think of the players we have coming through the ranks? Just add some names and your comments. Curious to see what opinions people have. Here's a couple of my thoughts... Andrew Carroll Looked good when he's played, especially given his age and lack of experience. Strong player who I can see filling out and being a big centre forward, good in the air and calm on the ball. Promising talent, hope he matures well and develops in to a quality player. Matty Pattison Never really liked Pattison. Feel for the lad, as he must be doing something right for the club to keep giving him chances, but he seems to never look sharp enough or quick enough to handle the EPL when I've watched him. Looses the ball easily and misplaces passes. Feel like this lad needs to be moved on to a lower league. Peter Ramage Showed that he can keep calm and defend well for 90 minutes at centre back on occasions, but is a poor full back. Don't believe he has enough ability to hold it in the Premiership. Would like to see him do well, but at 23 I'd expect to see something closer to the finished article. Just sadly not good enough. James Troisi Not seen a lot on this lad, but the bits I have seen he's looked fast with quick feet. Good ability and confidence on the ball, seems to have a few tricks up his sleave. Think he could be a decent winger or forward, still unclear what he's best at. Just hope he beefs up a bit to cope with the physical demands.

I mentioned one game, but also said that I've seen him play well in many others. I don't really have the time to type up each time he's played well, so honed in one that you most likely would have seen to use as an example. I never judge a player based on one game mate, so try not to make assumptions that I am. Seen him play many times, think we he will get more goals than Dyer ever will in a season and it means we have quality in depth upfront and in midfield. Totally agree with you that I'd liked to have the defence sorted first, but do we miss out on Smith to another club if we can't nail the defenders first? - I'm confidnet Sam will get in the defenders before the deadline.
-
Yup. Some people feel that we should be using that £6million towards better defenders, but I'd rather take Smith and the defenders. Just think, if we do get injuries it means Pattison is less likely to get a game. Ideal.

I don't mind us signing Smith and Diop, as long as money is there and waiting to be splashed on 3 decent defeners. We'd have a decent squad if 3 defenders plus Smith & Diop come to us.

what memories? some people are masochastic with memories.

Don't understand why people don't rate Alan Smith. He's not as bad as some people make out on here. Any of you watch his goal against Roma? he played very well that night, and I've seen him play very well in many other games too. Would like to think Allardyce would get good fitness and form out of him, plus he can cover a variety of midfield and attacking positions. I think all of us are desperate to see more defenders at SJP right now. I see it as that we already have a budget for the defenders we want and we are close to landing a left back, centre back and a right back. Sam's already said that he's missed out on some of the players he wants, but there is still a small amount available of the quality he wants and that he intends to land 3 or 4 players soon. I'd say Smith replaces Dyer, no expenses made. Then we splash £10m to £15m on 3 defenders.

Is it me, or is the media getting worse every year with making up transfer rumours? Surely selling N'Zogbia is utter madness, even more so given that we are trying to flog Dyer cause he wants to leave. I'd be seriously angry if we did let N'Zogbia go, especially for £3million.
-
Looks like Sam considering a gamble signing to sort out the left back spot. I'd take a gamble on this French kid though over us not signing anyone, everything I've read about him is generally positive. Just think that we've not spend that much so why not go for Baines instead, who is available.

You seem to know quite a bit about Trezeguet, what's his favourite colour? Green I thought Green aswell. Does anyone else think Trezeguet = Green?

You seem to know quite a bit about Trezeguet, what's his favourite colour? I've heard he likes Frosties for breakfast.

They've already turned down our pennies and mars bar wrapper bid. it's all about the snickers, tbf... http://www.holmenwi.com/holmenpr/snickers.jpg

Hopefully it's not too bad.

I've always hoped Luque would come good some day. He's shown some promise in the last 2 games, and if we were to get 15+ goals from him it would be amazing return next season.
-
Pattison has never ever displayed any top flight ability, not even a flash. He looks way out of his depth and uncomfortable on the ball. And that's not just once, that's every time I've seen him. I'm desperate to see him do something which wins me over but I'm fearing it will never come.
-
Surely Allardyce will feel the same.
-
Pattison has never been good when I've seen him. Surely his days are numbered.
-
shame they're leaving it so late Aye.

Think we will need Geremi more in midfield with Barton out, Emre out, Dyer possibly off and now that Parker has gone. Plus a couple of boro fans at work reckon he will be wasted at right back, although he is good for cover there. Still think Geremi is better than what we currently have for right back like.
-
agree that if we got Shorey, Hyypia and Davies I'd be happy. Need a right back as well though, would have even taken Luke Young over playing Carr.
-
Never said £20million on "one or two" players, I feel we need to spend that on around 3 or 4.
-
The similarities probably end there though. You think? I seem to remember everyone confident Roeder would get the players in he wanted last summer, it was only when the window closed and we never had any decent defenders in that the majority turned on him. Time well tell with Allardyce but talking a good game means nothing to me.. sure talking good game means nothing, but so is assuming at this stage that this summers transfer window will be a flop in the same way as last years. We have a brand new manager and chairman, surely with 4 players in the bag and promise of another 3 to 4 in the next 3 weeks, it looks like were doing ok realistically. If Barton, Emre and Duff were not crocked I doubt people would be so bothered that we had only got 4 in at this stage. Also, tbf, only 8 teams in the EPL have signed more players than us... and we've been held up spending because of Ashley's takeover review.
-
Same was said of Bramble when we bought him. true, but not every young defender turns out like Bramble.
-
Ashley will spend. Why would he buy Newcastle if he had no intention of spending, it's obvious we'd struggle big time without spending. After spending £1.75 million and getting a return of 4 players so far, think its time we splashed up to £20million at least over the next 3 weeks to get the more players in the positions we are week.
