What I hated most about Arlo was his inferiority complex. He’d say things like “I could never do that, I’m not a professional football player but do you who is? Lee Dixon and he’s standing right by me”. Like have some respect for yourself and your profession. You’d never hear Jon Champion say something like that. You’d never hear Martin Tyler say that. Awful, awful commentator.

And I think there’s some weird dynamic between him, Mustoe and Rebecca Lowe. If you watch carefully, he always ends his sentences with ‘Rebecca’ as if he’s educating her. And if you don’t believe looks play a part in football punditry, Micah Richards himself said he doesn’t like going on shows with Jamie Redknapp as “he’s too good looking” and takes the shine away from him. Not the best example I know as Richards is a really poor pundit but he said it.

I won’t ever come to grips with that. And like I said before, it’s the Americans championing Peter Drury and there you went and championed him. But look at the rest of the thread, everyone else hates him. I wouldn’t want Brits commentating on NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL. I want to see the sport in its rawest and purest form. it’s football, it’s simple. It doesn’t need to be dumbed down. Look at Thierry Henry’s reaction to Ray Hudson. He hated the over dramatics and histrionics as do I. And real ones will remember Robbie Earle as a commentator(even though it seems they didn’t like him as a commentator for some reason). I thought he was great. He has a face for radio and is a poor pundit IMO as he stutters over words because I think he’s too worried about the camera constantly on him on a subconscious level.

This is my problem. Football was shown on Fox Soccer Channel(formerly Fox Sports World) far longer than NBC took over the rights in 2013(I got cable in 2003 and they were using direct Sky feeds). Arlo dumbed down a product that didn't need to be dumbed down. And now that idiot is doing commentary on Ted Lasso and that show makes football look like a joke.

I think it’s the Americans who are championing him as such. I wish they could all see that Squires comic of him to see what the rest of the world think of him. Edit: Whoever the main commentator for La Liga games on Sky in the mid 2010s was class. His Irish? co commentator - not so much. Ian Crocker is one of my favorite commentators. He’s the main commentator for the SPL iirc and does some Prem games but I think he should be the Premier League’s leading announcer.

Aye, never understood why he never made his move to Everton permanent to play at LA Galaxy. At that time, Everton were desperate for a striker.

Difference is when we had Shearer, all the top teams had pretty good attacking options, too. Right now, aside from Man City, every team in the top six(and Chelsea) would strongly benefit from Kane. I don’t remember the same clamoring for Kane to leave like when Shearer was hear if any at all.

Do agree that that the completion should be merged with Copa America. There’s usually like 14 actual South American teams in the Copa America and they have to invite a couple other countries from elsewhere to fill up the bracket like Japan or Qatar. Would be much better with the likes of America, Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica who can actually compete.
-
Aye, it’s only the Jamaicans who have taken in seriously. Mexico are missing Lozano, Corona, Jimenez, that Ajax lad. The America side that we faced in the World Cup with Pulisic and co are no where to be seen. Even Costa Rica don’t have Navas in goal. Really, really disappointing.

I don’t understand. Isn’t the Gold Cup the equivalent of a European cup trophy? It used to be the passage way to the Confederations Cup that Mexico or the US used to be in every four years. What’s a Nations League? Who even won that? Spain/Holland had Rodri, Laporte, Ake playing in the Nations League final four days after their Champions League final. Find it crazy Alphonso Davies, Jonathan Davis, Lozano, Corona, and the exciting American team coming up don’t want to win a major honor like the Gold Cup.
-
Gold Cup has been absolutely shit standard. America and Mexico come with B teams, what are they saving them for? MLS has been far better tonight. The u21 was the best football on today.

David was being sarcastic. Go back a couple pages.

Doesn’t look like a pen to me.

You can't tell me that 08-12 Spain team weren't snide cunts when they had to be. Sergio Busquets being the prime example.
-
Luis Aragones - Thierry Henry. I rest my case.

Not a fan of miss comps tbh.

Probably takes corners/free kicks. @foxghost that true?

tbh I haven’t seen anyone in the last three years stand out for Chelsea aside from Kante, Reece James, and maybe Mount(the former two with poor fitness issues). Pre Boaly, it seemed like they had a patched together squad who got results through dogged team performances. Pulisic’s first season was good. He looked dangerous. I remember in the 2020 FA Cup Final Chelsea turning into a completely different team the moment he got injured as if they had all their hopes pinned on him.
-
Pulisic is quality. There’s no denying that. His numbers at Chelsea are respectable and he looks incredible anytime he puts on that America kit. He just needs to work on his fitness. When he does play, he’s a livewire.
-
Specifically remember people on here singling out McKennie as a quality player. Now he’s shit after a bad spell at a lets face it, Championship team. You really can’t trust Italian team’s motives for offloading their players. All their teams are broke so they’ll sell high and buy low like Tonali from Brecia. The constant trades between Inter and AC over the years. The big teams get the players in young, loan or sell them lower down the table and then buy them back for tuppence once they have a breakthrough season. Been doing it for years.
-
Aye, him, Adams and Pulisic were all over England in the World Cup and were the better team on the night.
