  1. Nar, but: Deco has reiterated his desire to stay at Barcelona but admits that if the club tell him that he is not needed then he will seek a transfer. The Portuguese international spoke out after being left out of the starting line-up in Barca's 11 versus 11 training match on Tuesday. His omission sparked debate in the Catalan media as a lot has been read into Frank Rijkaard's choice for the two teams in the match. "I have a contract until 2010 and nobody has said anything to me, therefore I think that they count on me. I like it here. But if they do not want me to stay then that is there choice," Deco said. Barca are continuing their pre-season preparations in Scotland but speculation is rife over which players will be off-loaded following the arrival of four new stars. Deco has been subject of interest from Internazionale and Newcastle United but he is only focusing on helping Barcelona reclaim their title and is knows Rijkaard has yet to finalise his squad. "He will now try and make a great team from these players. Everyone wants to make this a great team," the 29-year-old explained. "The team is not finalised yet. The coach is trying to create his team and I have to continue working hard." Reflecting on harsh criticism during last season that included reports that he was at the centre of the controversy behind the scenes, Deco explained that he knew the analysis would start when the team missed out on the title. Deco said: "When you do not win something then things like that always happen. We have had some incredible years, but then last season we failed. "Everything that was said was expected and we were ready for it. This season I think we will be going for all the trophies as the club has brought some great new players."
  2. ....and here's me thinking that the manager chooses who to buy and the Chairman just deals with the business side of things.... Yeah because picking players is the only job at a Football club right?.. The manager deals with players, picking the team, oversee's coaching and usually picks the transfer targets. But you still need someone with Football knowledge in front of him to deal with everything else. Mort doesn't have that AFAIK. Which is why I mentioned a DOF in between Mort and Allardyce to support the manager on Football matters that he shouldn't need to be burdened with. I do think we'll end up with a DOF.
  3. Can't say you're excited that someone who knows what he's doing has been appointed? He knows what he's doing in a law farm, not a football club. Surely you recognise there is a subtle difference? As far as the chairman is concerned, the club is a business, just like everywhere else. Sam Allardyce is in charge of the footballing side. We dont know or sure that Mort is up to this job at all yet. Just because he's done well in other realms of business, doesn't mean he'll know how to run this particular business. I'm good at golf, doesn't mean I'm liquid at all sports though. (Worst example ever but you get the idea) I'm staying optimistic though, for now. It is the worst example ever, you're right there. At th end of the day, anyone new brings risks, but IMO a man with a background like Mort is as risk free as we can get.

True, but there may come a time where Allardyce pulls the wool over his eyes in an attempt to desperately get a player. He might see a centre-back worth £4m, but with the chairman not having a clue about the player he might tell him he's worth say, I dunno, £8m and, oh hang on... "This Titus fella, can we slap in a 10 million bid?" Don't think Mort would do that without seriously checking out the player in question.

Even if you think that, a lawyer is not by definition a good chairman of a company? Again, there is a subtle difference.. He's a man that a Billionaire has been working with all his life, got to say I trust his opinion over yours

  11. I know it's in another thread but we've waited years for this, so worth it's own: www.nufc.co.uk FOLLOWING completion of the takeover of Newcastle United PLC by St James Holdings Limited, Newcastle United PLC announces today that Chris Mort has replaced Freddy Shepherd as Chairman of the Company. Mr Mort said: "I am delighted to become Chairman of such a fabulous club.Since arriving at St. James' Park I have been hugely encouraged by the warm welcome I have received from so many supporters. "The strategic review of the Club is going well and, with the new season fast approaching, we feel the time is right to make the change. "I would like to thank Freddy Shepherd for all he has done for the Club over the last 15 years." mackems.gif blueyes.gif

    Penalty Taker?

After the debacle of the penalties last season, it seems we have a lot more options this season. Who'd be your pick, and why?
