Surprised we’ve not tried a 5 at the back at all this preseason; a low-block (when we’re hanging onto a lead) with Targett, Burn, Botman, Schar and Trippier would see a lot of games out quite comfortably imo.

Yeah, I like the idea of starting with a lowball offer, so long as it’s followed by a more realistic one. We’ve seemingly walked away from deals when clubs tell us what they actually want. I’m all for boxing smart but putting in slightly derisory bids for players clubs don’t want to sell, then baulking at the asking price isn’t that.

File this alongside the Isak, Barnes and Osimhen links as “would be amazing but too expensive”.

Maddison and Cornet would be pretty sweet. 17.5m for Cornet is an absolute bargain as well; he’s at least a 25-30m player in this market.

We’re desperate for a bit more technical quality in the side. Love the idea of getting Maddison in- the tactical options we’d have with him in the team would be amazing- though I’d very much doubt that we’d pay what Leicester would want.

Not sure he’s an Eddie Howe type striker but that’s a decent fee for player of his caliber and potential. We were (albeit tenuously) linked to him before as well.

Apparently Amine Gouiri has a 33.5m release clause. I’d be surprised if that was true.
