  1. Maybe as far as winning anything, but the've never even been close (so no tragic failure... just failure) - also the Cubs are the affluent and very white northern-suburban demographic of Chicago which is also a two team town... the demographics kill the compason for me. That said I can't think of any other baseball team that would be a better fit... but I've never been a fan. No tragic failure? How about the 2003 NLCS when they were 5 outs away from going to the World Series before Steve Bartman's infamous run-in with Moises Alou? Or the regular season collapse in '69? Or the NLCS heartbreak against the Padres in '84? They haven't won the World Series since 1908 (the longest drought in North American sports) and haven't been in it since '45. The Pirates last won the World Series in 1979. They also won it in 1960 on a dramatic Game 7 walk-off HR against the Yankees. They had some heartbreak in the early 90's and have been absolutely dreadful since then. I think the city is a decent comparison, but not the team. The Red Sox were definitely the best comparison until 2004. Maybe we'll win two titles in 4 years (yeah right). Another possible comparison is the Cleveland Indians. A team people like to make fun of, most notably when they were the subject of the movie "Major League." A team that hasn't won the World Series since 1948, lost in the WS in '95, and were two outs away from winning it in '97. To add to that, the city of Cleveland hasn't had a championship in any sport since some time in the 60's when the Browns won (pre-Super Bowl). The Cavs (NBA) have never won the title.
  2. Here's my favorite Super Bowl prop bet... Super Bowl XLIV - How many times will Pete Townshend do his legendary windmill move? Windmill move must be a full 360 degree revolution and be shown on TV to be counted for this wager. O/U at 5.5
  3. Fantastic goal. Man City look awful.
  4. Me. More nervous now than I was at kickoff. No idea why. Worried we're going to fuck it up I guess.
  5. http://i.ytimg.com/vi/Qwq7BYOnDrM/0.jpg Playoffs?
  6. Absolutely useless. He cannot continue to play up front this season. Ameobi, Loven, and Ranger are all miles better. He's pretty good at clearing corners, so maybe he could become a CB (though I doubt it).
  7. Me too, but I'll worry about that once we are guaranteed promotion. Until then I hope they lose every week.
  8. He's rubbish at this level tbh. However, if he's only here to cover for injuries, it shouldn't be a massive problem. How many times have you seen him at this level? I am waiting for Ronaldo's assessment tbh. I think he said yesterday (might be thinking of someone else) that he's the worst player he's seen in the top two divisions.
  9. If we end up with this guy for under £2 million I am going to piss myself with laughter and excitement. Please let this happen.
  10. 10 points is fairly reasonable to me, it's alot of point, no matter which end of the league you are in. I agree. They just went from fighting for promotion to a relegation battle.
  11. Really like Beckford...wish we could get him.
  12. No one, and I mean no one, is worse than JP Dellacamera (USA ESPN/ABC). MLS sucks to begin with, but he makes it unbearable.
  13. Too much blue (purple?) in that one.
  14. USA - New Jersey specifically. Mom is from England, which is why I became interested in the Premier League at a young age.
  15. Very pleased with this signing if true. He played a poor game on Monday - it happens. I would rather watch him go through some growing pains and potentially improve than sign some past it Championship caliber player (or the more likely alternative of signing no one).
  16. Then wouldn't they have changed it sooner? They knew West Brom were home. Seems like they announced this right after Newcastle won.
