I hope we play with wide men and pacey players tomorrow with a view to stretching these. Germany aren't the paciest (?) of teams but stretched Slovakia and beasted them. Added importance for a win tomorrow in my opinion. An opportunity for the country to become unified behind something again.

I see your point about the good news. However, England staying in the tournament will also sell papers. The more negativity shown by our very own press, then the more it appears in world media and the more it influences the likes of UEFA. Not only that but the more it appears the more it develops a stereotype and then the likes of the Russians want to fight us. IMO because the hooliganism has been highlighted as much as it has (at the start of the tournament) it has snowballed. More hooligans have become involved because more want to show that they're more fearsome.

At the fanzone in Lens most of our fans were utter bell-ends. They weren't hooligans or necessarily causing trouble, they just had a repertoire of about 3 songs and then began to use them as the only 3 tunes to try and generate new songs. Any "proper" England songs they didn't seem to know or have even heard of and they were all pally with the Welsh until they scored when a few dozen people through plastic cups / beer and had a go at them. Of course when we scored it went mental and one lass nearly got bundled over / crushed (kinda to be expected) and then some lad passed out and hit the deck knocking himself on conscious. Thankfully, one or two of the lads managed to block off the swathes of people jumping around next to them and protect them. They were just pissed, mindless dickheads in general. We also saw one pissed lad with his mates, kicking his mates in the shins. He began to do this to a couple of them before trying it on a stranger. Needless to day he tried it on the wrong person and that nearly turned into a 20 man brawl. Utter fucking mongs. Unfortunately, I think it's a bit of a chicken and egg scenario - some people are just dickheads and are subsequently being reported on, others are being reported on negatively or stereotyped when they're just "normal", so they just live up to it (the stereotype). There is a lot of good natured stuff going on that isn't being reported on. It's almost like the media have an agenda in my opinion.

Has to be said there was hundreds of dick heads in the fan zone. Most of which were southerners...

The journey back with a random french bloke in a minibus. They saved us €100. This is 2 / 3 of the lads who travelled on plastic chairs in the back two of us were translating in the front.

They're even wearing gum shields before going into battle. English fans are hardly blameless but the Russians and local French youths seem to be the instigators. The problem is that the English brought hooliganism into European Football so they are now the scalp the hooligans from other countries want. The 2nd problem is that all the proper English hooligans were banned from travelling and the wannabee hooligans over there now just can't hack it against the rest. I followed Newcastle to Marseille 12 years ago and it was a dodgy experience back then and that was without 1000s of Russians milling about looking for trouble. In hindsight it was always going to be a recipe for disaster. Aye. I was 14 and we went our there for that (my dad and all the match lads). We even went to some of the supposedly questionable bars but had nothing but friendly banter with the locals. The police process was intimidating it was like being cattle. Filtered into a 3 sectioned warehouse and searched from head to toe. Atmosphere was quite volatile but no fighting. At the end both sets f fans turned and clapped one another. Was probably just as well they beat us though. Otherwise there could have been a barny. Fuck knows who chose the Russians and English to play in Marseille though. A port, lots of poorer people and a large Muslim and Arab population. That mixed with organised hooligans and pisshead Brits the sun was never gonna work. Germany and Poland could kick off on Thursday and I suspect some Russians will be in Lens for our game with Wales. The local authorities in each nation are to blame for me. Stop them before they even get there. They cannot all be new generation hoolys. Shuld just have a tosser tournament and let all the fucking mongs scrap it out. Keep them all away from us.
