  1. Cheers. Well great to see that he's back training with the first team and lets hope he at least makes the match day 18 on as many occasions as possible this season.

  2. Good news if true although a little out of the blue. May I enquire as to where this information has come from? This is Newcastle United mind so even if he is supposedly 'in contention' for this game, the chances of him actually making it are very slim!

  3. Something to ponder...if Newcastle's number 7 had done that do you think townsend etc al. would be saying things like 'lets hope thats not the last we see of him' in the immediate aftermath and pretty much brushing over it as one of those slight blips that Scholes has? Scholes knew exactly what he was doing there and it could have smashed up Zabaletta's knee.

  4. Am not trying to put him down, i'm one of his biggest fans. There is never a dull moment with Joey and I like that about him, much better than the majority of mundane drones that play premier league football. I respect the bloke for being prepared to admit that he has his issues, that his downfall is of his own doing and he is constantly trying to battle his demons.

There's no doubt he's a bit daft, but his career at Newcastle is nowhere near as colourful as people make out. Whats strange is Golden Boy Carroll, LIVERPOOL & ENGLAND DARLING has smashed a teamates jaw, battered his lass (maybe twice if the 2nd charge is to be believed), and glassed some kid in Blu Bamboo (all in the last few year), yet this has pretty much been completely forgoten, everyone loves him.

Yes but this is a thread about Joey Barton. I wasn't trying to spark a debate, was just mentioning that I read his wiki page today and some of the things he has got up to (the lesser stuff) made me chuckle, that is all!

  6. I'm a big fan of Joey's and regularly get into 'debates' with friends where I back him all the way...that said his wikipedia page, particularly since he has been at Newcastle, is colourful with plenty of noteworthy incidents!  ;D

  7. At least we haven't got anyone out on loan that could have had significant first team minutes since january....

Yeah, we've really missed Routledge's scintilating Premier League performances.

With more minutes on the pitch he might have got back some of his confidence and would have been a real asset to our side.

Horseplop. The guy's been hopeless at every club he's been at in the Premier League.

Would rather have Routledge to bring on than no one. A player with a bit of pace could have lead to us killing the game at the Stadium of Light, getting something against Everton, Villa and Fulham and beating Bolton and Blackburn. Obviously I am not saying that all those results would have been affected but those are just the games I can think of off the top of my head that were crying out for someone with the assets Routledge has.

He never once showed those "assets" this season though. Nor at Spurs, Villa, Fulham etc. Why would he suddenly become a terrific game changing player when there's very little evidence to support that theory?

I'm not trying to assert that Routledge is necessarily a premiership quality player. What I am saying is that I would much rather have had him here as at least an option. He may not produce week in week out, but I certainly wouldn't write him off and he is fine as a back up winger.

In one of his last games he came on against Wigan when we were 1-0 up and was at least a threat. That was at a time when they were  trying to push for an equaliser and he used his pace a couple of times to get in behind them. At least it gives the opposition something to think about. For example at the SofL we had no outlet ball, no one that could hurt them on the break so they were able to pile bodies forward and cause havoc in the box. If a player with pace like Routledge on is on the pitch then teams have to either decide to keep someone back to mark him or push up and risk getting caught on the break.

  9. Irrelevant. Routledge would most likely have started a decent percentage of games since he went out on loan and would have featured in an even higher percentage. We've been crying out for a bit of pace late in a number of games. I only need to go back 24 hours to think of one such game. At least he would have been something for the opposition to think about. Pardew was saying that he basically had no one else to bring on at the weekend, he could have had Routledge (and even Xisco).

  10. Big difference between 'not at his best' and 'he was shit'. That wasn't his greatest game in the season but some of the comments are a bit harsh in my season. He was average today in a very average performance. Interestingly I thought he came into the game more when he played more centrally.

Agree that with whoever said he probably shouldn't be captain, he doesn't seem to have the temperament to get his point across in the right manner. Didn't he say in an interview or talk in that nolan can read him like a book and steps in when he can see joey is thinking about speaking up? Looked today like he needed nolan to do that on the pitch as well.

  11. It's never going to happen but wouldn't mind seeing how Richardson does in the middle thus keeping Barton out on the right. If we had another 4 or 5 points on the board then Pardew might have tried it, after all having Tiote and Nolan suspended gives him the ideal opportunity to do so, but as it is he wont and I don't really blame him for that. Full expect to see Raylor on the right with Barton and Guthrie in the centre.

  12. Looks like he could be a very lucky boy and get a second chance on the right wing next week. With Tiote and Nolan out it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Barton will move inside. Lets hope he takes it and doesn't anyone down this time.
