I did think that PL were going to approve but were using their leverage to get as much as possible from the deal - piracy fixed, a big bid for the next MENA rights etc. They pushed it too far, PIF walked away and now PL will realise the limit has been reached, will leave it at that and approve. But no.

Probably haven't. Seller still wants to sell, buyer still wants to buy and the PL hadn't (yet) rejected it. They simply took forever in a successful attempt to let the problem fade away.

The angle worth pursuing is the money invested into the city, during what will be a global economic crisis. Turning that down is ludicrous, surely the government want to have a word about that. But apparently not. I gave up on watching FA Cup coverage after 10 mins, it hurts too much. Don't want to watch any football anymore because it reminds me.

I guess the only reason the government would put pressure on PL now is the heavy investment to the city of Newcastle. That'd be a huge boost right now and is consistent with their attempts to get the country up and running again.
