  1. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew on Cheick Tiote's disallowed goal: "We're in an entertainment business and the guy's hit a wonder goal that Joe Hart isn't going to save.

"I'm not thrilled with the referee's answer when I've asked for an explanation as I don't quite get how he can disallow a goal of that quality on the technical point he is using.

"Joe Hart is nowhere near it. It goes through a crowd of City players who are impairing his view.

"It's a massive call on a very technical point.

"Pellegrini said something to me on the touchline which I wasn't happy with, it was normal banter where I probably used words I shouldn't have in the heat of the moment and I apologise for that."

Not exactly gone for the jugular.  He's actually apologised.

  2. f***ing hell this thread is a massive circle of recycled points, so here's another.

People pointing to the Spurs, Chelsea and Manyoo wins which have masked very bad losses to inferior teams: the haterz point about Pardew always comes back to sustainability.

During the 5th season we said it was not sustainable to play football based on marginal results and one person scoring the goals from scraps. So it was proven right.

This season he's pulled off 3 very good and unexpected wins that have papered over some of the same failings that had us in trouble last year. Does anyone see where I'm going with this?

If we spend the rest of the season struggling against weaker teams and don't go to Anfield or the Emirates and take points chances are we'll end up bottom half of the table.

Similarly if we rinse and repeat next season without the wins against the big teams.

Shock results like we had are not the norm, top teams will not always be in transition, then where will we be?

Until he can put out at team that goes at the weaker teams at home looking to score lots of goals and beat them senseless he's getting it very, very wrong. Keegan almost won the f***ing title doing this tbh, 17 home wins that season but our away record was gash.

Madness people can't or won't see it.

    Magnificent post.

  3. To those saying the players need to take their share of the blame for the result and performance, as is the case in the league this is of course true.  However when people say that the players need to share the blame for certain hallmarks of Pardew's regime so far such as negative football, shitting ourselves and holding on to leads for dear life, lack of movement off the ball and also this repeated surrender in the early stages of the cups, it doesn't seem to take into account the change in personnel over the last 3 years.  Pardew's a really unlucky chap if he keeps getting given these negative, rout-averse, non-moving cup bottlers as players.

By my reckoning that's 40 separate players who haven't been able to get us past the 3rd/4th round against opposition we should be beating under Pardew's leadership, and again we're hearing that another one of these Pardew trends is considerably influenced by the players or in the manager's words after today's game "The cup seems to elude us, in terms of getting a win".

It's not the same set of players but it is the same manager, so this is another trend that you have to lay mostly at the manager's door IMO.

    Precisely.
