I remember when I came up watch Newcastle vs Southampton in 2002 (I am based in London), and my Dad mentioned that he might be able to get me Bobby's signature as he once reported an England tour with him. Bobby remembered his name and face, strode out to say hello to my Dad again and shook my hand, a shaky 16 year old Newcastle fan. He could have just left it there, but not Bobby - he signed my ticket, took me and my Dad to a complimentary dinner in the club and anytime a player was near he bolted up to get them and bring them over to say hello to me and sign my ticket - I met Shearer, Dyer, Speed, Bellamy, Nobby, Andy O'Brien, Shay Given, Aaron Hughes and Hugo Viana. He talked to us for a good hour, asking me about my school and ambitions in life and stuff, it was just incredible. The next time I saw him was at Brian Clough's memorial (Brian Clough being my Godfather, another friend of Dad's) and he'd just been sacked. The man even remembered my face, and stopped his conversation to come up and see how I was doing. I said sorry about the decision and that I really didn't agree with it. He just smiled and said "it's football, and don't lose your love for that great club". He even asked me the score of a low-key Newcastle European match later that night after the service. I told him we won 1-0 with a Shearer goal. He just smiled and said "Who else but Alan?". I'll never forget him and the two amazing memories he provided me personally, and the years of great memories with what he did to my team. I'll be so, so gutted when the worst happens, I wouldn't be surprised if I never met a nicer person.
lucky bastard. must have been well chuffed with yourself

Just seen MO in my local gym in Cheshire, he's always in there. He saw my NUFC shirt and gave me a smile and a thumbs up, this surely indicates that he's staying.
He was probably looking over your shoulder at a bloke in an England top.

Been one of better players this pre-season tbf. I'm still highly dubious though.
dont think u'd be highly dubious
duff's resurgence may be highly dubious though

Coloccini will fly into Tyneside to sign a five-year deal this morning after Deportivo finally agreed to a £9.1m deal that will make the 26-year-old the most expensive defender in Newcastle’s history.
Who was it before Boumsong?
Woodgate

Gutted that I may never now get the chance to meet him and shake his hand! Always wanted to do that!
Be well Sir Bobby. I hope you don't suffer a second's pain.
We'll always love you for everything that you are and everything that you stood for

West Ham have agreed to release Ljungberg.
Surely if you were Hull, Stoke etc you would take the risk on a player like Freddy?
On his wages?
considering no transfer fee is involved....then yes, why not?

Do Spurs know that spending money isn't actually going out of fashion?
No idea, but if we do sign Corluka for £6.8m and Hughes really does bid £10m for Lennon, Spurs' net spending for this window will be about £1m.

Blackburn have signed Santa Cruz's brother, Julio, on a three year deal and Fulham have signed a keeper called something like Zuberbuhler on a 1 year deal according to SSN.
you mean Julio Cruz? Argentine international?

IMO, assuming we get Coloccini, 3 more signings should follow. The names of Inler and Baptista are being bandied about, and I think both are class players who would improve our first team no doubt. Alongside these 2 names (and Im only dreaming here), I would love to have an experienced midfielder in the mould of Anatoliy Tymoschuk. The fella is a beast in midfield, and I think central midfield options of Tymoschuk, Inler, Barton, Butt and Guthrie to pick from would do very nicely for this season.
Break the bank for Baptista, Inler and Tymoschuk, and we've done a decent bit of summer business:
Jonas
Guthrie
Bassong
Coloccini
Baptista
Tymoschuk
Inler
would people be happy with that? is it realistic enough?

He works hard" Kev are you blind? He was lazy as f*** last night.
precisely!! if he did work hard, at least u'd give him that!
-
who cares what Butt's said!!!? there's bigger fish to fry!
Where's HTT when you need a dossier to be presented to Everton!! That last sentence in the article is probably bigger news than Coloccini coming here!

Very encouraged byt he fact that every new player that has been brought in so far, look s like they have something about them.
Very discouraged by the lack of improvement or progress being made by other members of the team who seem to be stuck in the same place of delivering average to poor performances.
this!!

David Silva is off to Roma for £18 million.
confirmed? or he said she said?
near enough confirmed.....
Roma are in advanced talks for Valencia winger David Silva.
Valencia shareholder Juan Villalonga revealed last night: "I'm sorry for our fans but we do not have the capital needed to meet our commitments and we are forced to mortgage all our heritage like our most important players.
"The negotiations for the sale of David Silva to Roma are very advanced for about £18 million."
Roma have also bid for Eto'o.
did he actually say 18 million sterling?
