  1. What a great player he was to watch. I still miss him!! and so does the team.

Agreed. How much better would that team look on Sunday with a 25-32 year old Alan Shearer alongside Michael Owen.

    absolutely spot on

and to whoever said Shola carried him??? you what??? did he carry him fuck????

  2. A feeling from within I guess rather than anything else.

Do I personally see Guthrie as an ambitious signing? No. He may turn out to be an astute or a bargain signing but for me he will never be ambitious signing. Do I see Jonas as an ambitious signing ? Yes. He was the winger for the chap who scored the most goals in La Liga last year.

or conversely, load of bollocks :)

signing a rising youngster from a top 4 side's reserves may prove the most ambitious of all, as you're taking the chance on youth rather than on an established signing like say....jason koumas.

at the same time, taking a chance on a relative unknown like Jonas, who as you put it correctly was the winger for the chap who top scored in la liga, is also an ambitious move, as it shows the club are looking everywhere and doing their homework

fucking hell!! tried trawling through pages 6 or 7 onwards, and the paranoia on here is getting craaayyyyyzeeeeh!!!!!!!  :frantic:

this situation is like when men who don't clock on fast enough can't pick the signals a woman is sending them that she wants to shag, or is in love with them or what not. we've been given enough signals by the club, yet we are still worried about this and worried about that.

as far as i'm concerned, we have so far signed gutierrez, guthrie, bassong and coloccini. how do i know? a variety of reasons, including mike ashley wearing colo's name on his back. whether paperwork is complete or not is not my concern unless we absolutely KNOW otherwise.

why? because it's better for my fucking health. i'll go through the team sheet on sunday afternoon and find out who's there and who isn't. and if i don't then, i'll wait for KK post-match rant. and if i still don't find out who we've signed by then, well....fuck all of yous i'm supporting chelsea!!!  :kasper:

  4. Maybe he's training in secret. They'll start the match with Taylor and Cacapa, Man U will whip up on those two, and then the lights will all go off, some pyro will pop and Coloccini will run out of the tunnel and tackle the ball away from Ronaldo. The crowd will s***.

Then he'll walk to the sidelines and wait to be subbed in officially and the game will carry on without incident.

All very likely except Ronaldo is injured.

  5.

    i think we're proper f***ed this time!

owen, martins, viduka and carroll are out. ameobi and smith (now staying) are back to full fitness

Guti still not registered, and coloccini looks to have stalled. warnock isn't coming, and we're selling milner and faye

Martins KO for Man U game

    Published Date:

    13 August 2008

    By Miles Starforth

    Newcastle United writer

OBAFEMI Martins is almost certainly out of Newcastle United's season-opener at Old Trafford.

The striker returned from a knee injury in Saturday's win over Valencia, but the Gazette understands Martins is still troubled by the problem, and could need a second injection.

Martins – who lost his mother last month in tragic circumstances – could even be allowed to return to his native Nigeria and spend some more time with his grieving family while the problem settles down.

Martins was absent this morning when Kevin Keegan put his players through their paces in an open training session in front of more than 10,000 fans at St James's Park.

And it is all pointing to Martins's absence when Newcastle take on Manchester United on Sunday.

His return had given manager Keegan a lift ahead of the visit to Old Trafford, with Michael Owen – set to play in a behind-closed-doors game tomorrow – still to prove his fitness, and fellow strikers Mark Viduka and Andy Carroll out for several more weeks.

Owen trained on his own with Abdoulaye Faye at St James's Park, while Joey Barton was absent from the session all together.

Shola Ameobi is also likely to play in the practice game after recovering from a hamstring problem, with Alan Smith – booed on his appearance against Valencia – Keegan's only fully-fit forward.

Elsewhere in his team, Keegan has other concerns, and he is desperate for the paperwork to be completed on Jonas Gutierrez and Fabricio Coloccini's moves to St James's Park.

Winger Gutierrez has been playing in pre-season with old club Real Mallorca's permission, and United went into this week still waiting to receive his registration.

His Argentine countryman Coloccini, meanwhile, has been training with his Newcastle team-mates ahead of Sunday's game, but the club are yet to officially confirm the defender's £9.5m switch from Deportivo La Coruna.

Keegan, however, still hopes to have him in his squad for the first weekend of the new season.

    38 years young today.

how i miss seeing him wheel away like that  :smitten:

    happy birthday big Al

  9. is coloccini there?

we don't know.  We're not there.  SSN are continuing the respect the ref debate.  Winter vs. Cundy.

so you mean to tell me none of you lot have mong mates at the ground????

not saying he's a mong like, but no one got skirge's mobile number?

  10. Be a very shrewd acquisition. Premiership experience, Juve have a wealth of midfielders and will definitely be willing to let him go (have bought Flamini and Poulsen this summer). Good box-to-box player who isn't afraid to stick a foot in or have a crack. Very similar player to Barton if my memory serves me right.

    you tell porkies

    Flamini signed for AC Milan

  11. I'm sick of people going on about Spurs and how we should be matching them. Last season they won a trophy and will be playing in europe this coming season. I'm sure that if that had been us then we'd have got the Modrics and the Woodgates.

All we can do is build a squad of hungry players that will WORK for the team and especially for the manager. Something that we haven't had in a long time. From watching pre-season alone (I know, I know) the 2 signings that I'd expect to be in or around the first team have shown at least some desire to want to play and have shown some skill on the ball.

I'm confident that we'll play well this season, with some great wins but equally with some frustrating losses. It's football, except this season we should be a little better at it.

sorry mate, i don't agree there. i don't believe it's the trophy they won last season, as much as it's Juande Ramos being the main footballing reason in attracting players to WHL. The man has shown he can produce exciting teams, challenge the top brass in Spain, and win trophies. IMO he's been the massive difference between spurs and ourselves this close season. Add to that european football, london, and the itk agreement society, and you would be a fool to choose us over them.

no disrespect to Keegan, and i love the man, but Ramos is on another planet

  12. Would be an excellent move. In fact I wouldn't be upset if we just bought him outright for the £6 million.

Tiago is a holding player who is more of a playmaker. Similar in style to a Xavi Alonso or Michael Carrick. Will also score the odd goal.

So a line up of this would be better?

    Jonas      Tiago      Zoggy

                  Duff

Personally, I would go with this

    ------------------Martins----------------

    Duff--------------Owen----------Jonas

    ----------Tiago-----------Barton-------

    Warnock---Faye----Coloccini---Beye

Assuming we sign Tiago and Warnock of course!

    You're forgetting Eto'o man

    ...and Taiwo

    done a Salako

keep Barton out of that side marra, he'll be banned for millenia!

Guthrie can do the job imo, alternating with Butt

quite a decent team that, with a hard as nails back 4
