When players get congratulated for "making amends" for an error. Perfect example last night when Johnson got caught of position (surprise surprise), the Sweden player was through but Johnson got back to tackle. Everyone was congratulating him on such a great challenge and "getting back to recover". "Getting back to recover" is the bare bloody minimum I'd expect of a player who has just cocked up. In a similar vein, the mindfuck that is congratulating a player for "not going to ground". Very well done, you're not a massive fucking cheat.

If the bet makes it to that day, I'm wondering if there's an efficient way of laying the bet. Big if, though. Now we're oohing and aahing about France, we'll see Greece produce a tremendously resilient performance (although a draw might be enough for Russia), or Croatia turn over Spain.

Russia should see it through tonight as long as they don't take their eye off the ball. Germany would have to really fuck up not to finish top. Spain, well, they only need a draw I think I'm right in saying in order to finish top, barring a very big Italy win. On paper, France are the iffy ones. Of course I realise now I'm thinking about it after seeing it's very possible, I'm awaiting with baited breath to see which team will fuck up. Russia to get served and not even qualify it is. Very debatable on the last point. Most other teams considered better have under performed so far while England have done better than we expected. Personally I think we've done exactly as expected, I think a few opinions of how "bad" we are have been exaggerated. We're not an awful team, good enough to beat teams like Sweden - through making it hard for ourselves, mind. I personally think we'll struggle against the likes of Croatia or Russia if we come to meet them, let alone Germany or Spain, who we could very possibly play in the next round if we make it.
