  1. You mention 'arm chair pundit stuff' then come out with that. Simpson backs off against everybody, it's hardly as if today is the first time he's done it. It seems he has to allow the person who's running at him to get into the box before he makes the decision to get closer to him which often leaves us with problems. I thought that was the case last season but he seems to be backing off more effectively at the moment generally speaking. Think I might of phrased that wrong, once we were stretched it was a lovely bit of individual play to exploit the space. Obviously it was an error that saw us caught so far up the field in the first place but I think it's harsh to be blaming Simpson or Williamson.

    Alan Pardew

In fairness he's got a shitty bench to work with.
  3. Correct me if I'm wrong but after givning the ball to Pinaar wasn't it him that went and retrieved the ball, making up for any form of error.
  4. Simpson has come on a ton from his performances last season, right back is no longer a priority. Some real arm chair pundit stuff in here though, sometimes you have to back off if you know the winger has superior pace and could get in behind easily. Today wasn't his greatest showing but he was against a winger who has give some of the best a torid time. Thought the goal had more to do with Lennon's quality then any form of defensive lapse as well.

    Nile Ranger

Ranger changed the game against Liverpool and looked good when he came on against man City and again today for his 7 or 8 minutes. I think the chance he missed today was all down to him and pace and persistence is a fairly good attribute for a forward. Shearer worked with him and thought that he had the makings of a very good forward. Beardsley thinks the same so I’m more than happy to suggest he’s got something about him. He undoubtely has potential I agree, but taking him as a whole at the moment he isn't good enough for the top flight in my opinion.

I don't even agree that he's the better player now, he's looking like a player who until recently hadn't scored a competitive goal for more than a year. What has Ranger shown though? He's got a bit of pace and persistence but I haven't seen much more.

I'd rather see Ranger getting games than Best, at least Ranger looks like he could become a good player. Currently Best is the better player of the two, we can't start players based on how good they may or may not become.
  8. Thought jonas had a good game personally, Shola didn't do a lot wrong either.

    Nile Ranger

I think some are getting carried away on the Ranger front. The lad is only 19 and he's shown he's very much rough around the edges, the best thing we can do for him is laon him to the Championship. There's no doubt he's useful as a late sub chasing people down, but he's shown absolutely nothing in the way of goal scoring instinct in the eighteen yard box. A loan would allow him to learn his trade and to build up some confidence.
  10. My liverpool supporting mate was watching the game and i got updates from him whilst at work. He said 1-1 was a fair result and Halsey favoured you guys (my mate really dislikes spurs btw). I'll watch when i get home on football first. Probably about right. Your lot couldn't wait to hit the deck at every oppertunity though.
  11. Rubbish. Showed far more quality on the ball than us. Pinaar wasn't bad either, showed some class in possesion.
  12. For me the goal was a moment of quality from Lennon, the disappointment is due to the fact they should of been dead and burried, Barton, Lovenkrands and Ranger manager to squander some excellent chances between them.
  13. Why does the goal have to someones fault? What happened to the days when you could hold your hands up and say good goal?

    Nile Ranger

Ranger has shown nothing more than being a pest when legs are tired, Shola was alright today, leave it be.
  15. Harper 7 - Didn't do much wrong, helpless for the goal. Simpson 7 - Did well for the most part. Williamson 7 - See Simpson. Colo 9 - An absolute class apart. Enrique 8 - The usual high class stuff from Jose. Barton 6 - Decent first half, seemed to move central second and it went downhill from there. Guthrie 6 - Alright, makes himself available and usually uses the ball well. Nolan 5 - His poorest game in a while, looked tired. Jonas 8 - His best game in ages, actually stuck some decent deliveries in. Best 5 - Decent shift but rarely looked like scroing. Shola 5 - See Best. Ranger and Lovenkrands 5 - Both looked lively but fluffed great chances.
  16. Decent point, good game for the neutral I bet. It's a kick in the teeth to concede so late on but its hard to argue Spurs didn't deserve something form the game, still, a clinical striker would of put us out of sight.
  17. Because they're awful. Unbeaten in five away from home, won three of those.
  18. I know they have had injury problems up front - might be worth checking that out before backing. Cardiff have been inconsistent and Watford have won their last six.
  19. Thinking about it that could adequately describe Jonas too.
  20. In fairness Rouledge has offered nothing this season, he's resorted back to type: can beat a man but can't cross for toffee.
