Trying to exploit Perch is a bit pointlees when they can just walk straight through the centre of midfield. If they actually play one.

No matter which way you look at it this is a poor result. It's all about how we react at Goodison, if we bend over and take a hammering I'll start to worry. -
That is cringeworthy to say that we can't criticize the guy. He's the worst winger I've seen play for Newcastle. I think stats will also back this up in terms of assists and goals as well. Some people are beyond help. Again name me a winger over the last 20 years that couldn't cross a ball, or even shoot properly. He's got a decent shot on him for a kick off although his crossing is hit and miss. Milner and Duff spring to mind in recent times. Decent shot I've seen one against barnsley in over 2 years now. Just look at his record, he scored 1 goal an average 30 games now. That for a midfielder is dreadful. That puts more pressure on the rest of the team to score more goals as well. Aye because I'd take Nolans goals over Gutierrez work rate every day of the week. Lets be honest we're a newly promoted side, most if not all our players have their weaknesses. It's why we won't be pushing for Europe. If we ever push on one day Jonas will probably need to be replaced but as it stands we have bigeer issues. As things currently stand he's good enough for what we are he grafts; takes men on; provides Enrique with someone to run off and provide service himself and puts the odd decent ball into the box. You need a good quality final ball in this division, he got away with it last season in championship. The same can be said of Routledge but at least he can deliver a ball, unlike this chap. He provides far more quality than Smith, Barton, Nolan et al. Again, do they play wide NO. Then they are not expected as part of their role in the team to do that. That's like saying was gary spped ever a good crosser of the ball compared to Viana. ...but they are, Nolan and Barton are supposed to be major players in the final third. The least you can say about Jonas is he commits defenders and gives Enrique plenty of oppertunities to whack a decent cross in.

Doesn't mean we can't criticize the guy though. It's easy to forget his decent displays against Villa and Wolves after a result like yesterdays.
-
It wasn't 'one of those days' we were poor for large parts and didn't really get off the bus until it was too late. The tempo wasn't there from the start.
-
We've got far more pressing problems than Gutierrez.
-
Alright Neesy, we drop Jonas. Who do we bring it to link up with Enrique and generally fill the role he performs?

You should. I just want to see some fight from our lads after todays spineless defeat. -
What's more cringeworthy than the odd person overreacting to the result is people claiming Hughton should receive no criticism what so ever when he quite rightly should be given stick for his lack of bottle. This was a poor result, our midfield looked off the pace and it took Hughton seventy minutes to react. Christ.

I'm not sure if it was respect or attitude, something was different and wrong. Nervous being favourites for the first time this season perhaps? Manager is paid so that his team are in right frame of mind etc to win the match. Can't use that as an excuse IMO. I'm not using it as an excuse. -

Get a fucking grip lads. No one is denying Hughton's previous good work and no one is ignoring the positves but today simply wasn't good enough. We don't know what damage this game has done yet but it's certianly undone the previous good work of the Villa result, it remians to be seen what it's done to our confidence levels. There's no excuse for his substitutions, it was evident things weren't working and he took far too long to react, and your seriously going to defend him for that? The whole 'I'm not going to criticise him for this result because of our previous results' attitude is bollocks. We'll see what he's made of this week because today we've taken one hell of a blow. If we remain unchanged next week I will be deeply disappointed in the bloke.

This is a week where Hughton must earn his money and our resolve will be tested. I was expecting a defeat even before today but now our confidence has been knocked it's more or less nailed on: 3-1 -

My opinion is based on the result and limited commentry of the match but here goes: We're back to square one, the good work of the previous results has been undone and it remains to be seen the state of our confidence. We simply have to beat teams like Blackpool on our own patch in a league where every point counts. Smith has to go, by all accounts it sound like a a needless penalty to give away. He's a limited footballer and this is level is far beyond him. Tiote has had a week to settle and simply has to play at Goodison. Hughton reacted far too late. At the latest changes should of been made at the hour make when it was evident things weren't working. This will be a week where he earns his money and the so called team spirit will be tested, if we get battered by Everton I'll start to worry but a fighting display, even if it ends in deafeat, shows we have a bit of metal and this result may not have done as much damage as it first appears. -

Gyan reminds me of Martins with a bit more effort. Quick, strong but very inconsistent in front of goal. Certainly paid over the odds for him. Will be interesting to see how he works with Bent. -
