Not to be a downer, but all he said was that we'd opened discussions. He's been reporting on more speculative stuff this transfer window, probably because there's not as much going on. He loves the "club x are exploring a deal for player y" line, covering all bases.

The Times reported last week that they weren't interest. The thing is that we don't know how interested we are either. Ormstein reported we'd had discussions with Palace and the Ronny claimed there were further discussions yesterday. It could have been as simple as: "£70 million? We're not paying that. OK, bye". I'm sure these things happen all the time.

If it becomes a bidding war, we'll make our pitch and bow out. That's if we haven't done so already.

The worst Newcastle player you've seen in a match

Alan Smith. -
Interested to see where he ends up.
-
He is pretty quick like. His aerial ability is probably more of an issue.

I'm sure TCD is a sound lad and I have no problem with any poster expressing their opinion, but I completely get the irrition of every thread being hijacked by the same tedious nonsense, repeated over and over and over. As someone who was hoping to use the forum for a bit of escapism, its entirely to its detriment.

How did Kelly get on? -
I like that he can play both sides. Could partner him with Schar, who is basically an Anderson clone, at LCB to begin with.

West Ham still conducting transfer business like their sporting director has rolled in from a night out and fired up FM.

Joking aside, I'm not sure Guehi is worth £60 million, but at this point I'm tired of talking about budgets and PSR. It'd be an exciting signing that potentially sorts our defence out for a considerable amount of time. I hope we're equally as ambitious looking at the RW. Throwing our hat in the ring for Olise suggests we will be. I'll worry about the PSR hangover later. At that point anyone who wants to can say "I told you so".

£60 million plus. Crickey.

"It is not clear how advanced the negotiations are or what fee has been discussed, though, and the fear at St James’ Park is that others will attempt to hijack the deal." Journalism.

Same agent as Gordon, Wilson, Miley, and Lascelles won't hurt mind.

Not getting excited about this. It'd be an amazing coup, but sounds like it's very preliminary stages. Whiffs of Palace leaking an enquiry to flush out other clubs.

Caulkin been told to earn his corn?

Most of my department work in London. It's a who's who of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man United fans, with the odd Spurs or West Ham fan.

Was chatting to a Spurs fan last week, but completely forgot to post it. He basically said with Mitchell, if any deal gets too loud (i.e.Thiaw), you can usually dismiss it. He does things such as pay relatively generous agent fees to ensure things get done quickly with minimum fuss.
-
I can't get my head round the "underwhelming" comments. Part of the reason Mitchell was brought in was to help navigate PSR. He's a great eyeball scout who found plenty of rough gems for both Southampton and Spurs, before they become household names. We absolutely still need a plug and play CB and a RW, but nothing wrong with this type of signing for third choice striker. It's low risk with a high upside.

It probably confirms Wilson is staying too.
