  1. West brom with an impressive start
  2. West ham are actually playing some decent football
  3. His crossing so far this season has actually been much better. He has a lot to prove this season if he wants to earn a better contract wherever that may be.
  4. Cmon man Coming from the guy who claimed GB was rubbish at sport to the point it was getting embarrassing directly before our most successful olympics in recent history. Yeah, you're never negatively biased.

    Deadline Day Thread

Sig keeping Vdv out of Spurs team, so they sign Dempsey? Seems odd. Sig, Dembele & now Dempsey in attack/mid, will need to create an understanding between them very quickly. Spurs have replaced half their first team.
  6. I didn't say Debuchy was bullshitting, something obviously did change but we don't know what it was and I don't know enough about Seydoux to have respect or not. You wouldn't sell your house for £160,000 if it was worth £200,000. Why should a club sell a player for less than he's worth? If I didn't want to sell my house but my wife did maybe I would make excuses why we shouldn't (this is getting ridiculous now). Exactly. If your house isnt on the market the majority wouldnt sell even if someone bid its valuation. They had no reason to sell Debuchy once they realised they could keep him happy. Its naive to think otherwise imo.
  7. It's worked once so it will always work. That ideas dependant on our high league position at that time being the sole reason Cisse joined. But yeah its obviously a calculated risk that what we have already will do reasonably well. So far we seem to judge it well. Ba's success wasnt unexpected by Pardew if you remember.
  8. From what we did with Cisse it seems likely we dont bother spending on a position if we think we can get better value at a later date. It means being patient & hoping the position doesnt cost us, but also results in a better player on the pitch in the long run if it comes off. Has worked for us so far.
  9. So why did we waste our time when, for example, Clyne was busy signing for Southampton for f*** all? How would we know we were wasting our time? All other players wanting to leave have ended up trying to join us & kicked up a fuss. We were in a strong position in regards to signing him when Clyne was signing for Southampton. "Lille literally had no reason to sell" "Why would they sell bar a ridiculous bid?" "We were in a strong position to buy him" Spot the odd one out. Yes both sides arent necessarily going to have the same viewpoint are they. Both of us thought we were in strong positions, i dont see how thats contradictory. We thought they were vunerable due to him wanting to leave & Cabaye, they obviously thought they could convince him to stay & they were apparently correct. But you just made out that the idea of them selling was completely ridiculous. If you've worked it out how come NUFC didn't? And why didn't we move onto other targets when this became clear? If Graham Carr had only identified one possible player all summer in our major problem position, who was a French international and Ligue 1 champion, then frankly he's not doing his job properly wouldn't you agree? Well im talking with hindsight, i thought we were going to get him at the time aswell. At the start like i said in the previous post perhaps they would have let him go for the right amount, i doubt they were instantly certain hed be fine staying. Over time they probably became aware he wasnt going to kick up as much of a fuss & that strengthened their position. They raise the fee, Debuchy complains theyre moving the goalposts etc. He stays anyway. Guesswork but adds up. Pards has said we have only 2 or 3 options per position. Again if you're going for a champions league place you're only going to sign quality, so while there are better players than Simpson around i doubt we'd put anyone on the books. Sounds like the few options we had just didnt work out.
  10. They named a fee, we didn't match it. Exactly. Let's not rewrite history here - he wanted to come and they were willing to sell. For the record their chariman took the huff at our negotiating antics. Plus as I said earlier they were scorched from the Cabaye deal. As other have said should have had a list of back ups or Clyne on a free etc... I imagine we have messed up somewhere. Personally i reckon at the start when Debuchy was throwing up the biggest signs he might cause a fuss Lille wouldve let him go for the right amount. I reckon we tried to be clever and use it to negotiate a much lower price & as time passed Lille became aware that Debuchy wasnt going to cause as much disruption as he could have.

  12. They named a fee, we didn't match it. Exactly. Let's not rewrite history here - he wanted to come and they were willing to sell. Based on what? Because they said theyd sell & everyone is honest always? As said, they had no reason to sell Debuchy but plenty of reason to suggest they would if they wanted to keep him happy. Which ultimately if you want to keep a player, is pretty important isnt it.
  14. Lille literally had no reason to sell whatsoever if they thought they could keep Debuchy happy & i imagine they thought that as they managed to achieve it. They didnt need the money & stated enough times a replacement of his quality would be very hard to find, why would they sell bar a ridiculous bid?
  15. 6. We dont know that Lille were ever realistically open to selling him atall in the first place Perhaps we should stop all discussion then, because we don't know everything. You can carry on discussion over it, but cant really hold a massive amount of conviction about us doing something wrong when the details over it all are clearly dodgy.
  16. So we were waiting for him to kick off and didn't move on because we thought that he would? It happens but not every transfer goes that way. Seem to remember reports coming out later in the Debuchy saga that we did try for VDW and he didnt want to move with Anita. If Clyne was an option, he'd already gone before we knew we'd not get either. Im sure there are other options better than Simpson, but i imagine if you're serious about improving you'd save your money for someone much better rather than spend on a slight improvement wouldnt you. So its entirely realistic we ran out of scouted choices. Which backs up Pards "Happy at their clubs" statement.
  17. 6. We dont know that Lille were ever realistically open to selling him atall in the first place
  18. Why would we believe our firstchoice was going to join when we'd had bids turned down? Well the players are generally known to have the power & he stated he wanted to leave. That put us in a strong position. We'd still be in a strong position had he kicked up a fuss instead of them seemingly convincing him to stay there and remain happy even assumedly with Cabaye in his other ear.
  19. No-one knows how much Lille want. We do know from what the player has said though, they've moved the goal posts. There's just as much chance of us knowing exactly what they want, we've made at least two bids as of five weeks ago. If they've moved the goalposts now, why won't they do the same in January? If we fail to get him then, will it be acceptable to hang on until next summer? If they've made it impossible for us to buy him, what's stopping the club telling us so? I f***ing refuse to believe there's absolutely nobody else out there that we could have got instead. Pardew has repeatedly told the fans on and off the record that we have two or three ideas for each target. Can think of Debuchy, Van der wiel & Clyne off hand. Thats only a few reported. If Clyne was an option its going to be difficult to bid for your 2nd/3rd choice like Clyne if you strongly believe your first is going to join.
  20. I hope we're not going to have to get used to losing our better players again because I doubt that they'll be looking at us today and thinking we're going places as a club. Yes i imagine most of them wanted their position in the first team to be challenged or they think others are rubbish and need to be replaced. Cause we've heard so much about our poor team spirit and that. Defo not projecting a very cynical fans view onto the players thinking like that atall.
  21. It's funny how people ignore this post and continue on complaining Because what has happened before has little relevance. Football is constantly moving. If you stand still, you get left behind. That is absolute bollocks, and if you really believe this then it's not surprising most of your posts are clinically depressing. How is the fact we have made brilliant signings in the recent past irrelevant? Surely it means we are capable of making brilliant signings, and might do again in the future? Wullie man, I know you think I'm too positive or whatever, but that attitude beggars belief. Clinically depressing. How is my confidence that we could have qualified for the Champions League this season with some modest investment depressing? If it's not irrelevant, why has nearly every other club strengthened their squad, including the champions? Surely they should have gone with your attitude of "made some good signings last year so we'll not bother"? None of those clubs had our form from January onwards after Cisse. Bar maybe Everton who similarly signed a striker in January, except hadnt had one as effective as Ba before that like us. Due to that theyve now signed Mirallas & only got naismith on a free. You're also claiming us qualifying for the champs league is based on replacing a right back & signing a few squad players which is massively debatable.
  22. Definately would rotate them. Jonas was pretty ineffective 2nd half v Chelsea for example & our attacking play on that side relied on Santon. Marveaux combining with him instead would've made us more dangerous.
  23. I bet that you have worked at the super market for the last 20 years collecting the bad fruits day after day and still ok with it as there's still good fruits on the table. Great analogy. Leaving the good fruit & taking away the bad would make sense if you worked there yeah.
  24. Definately would be better it they explained the situation a bit more, they know we're aware of certain deals & will be questioning why we havent got players.
  25. He means this gameweek as Chelsea arent playing. Silva only played 15 mins aswell v Pool, can see him starting v QPR though yeah.
