Id guess its possible to use a players potential bias towards staying with your club, to offer a lesser amount than what another is offering but come closer to it than what theyre currently on. Not to say we should have done that with Nolan, or that hed have taken it. But people said the same when Carroll left. Theres no reason to believe you need to match the contract. Wham had to offer a silly amount to get attention due to their current status.

Why would we have had to offer him the same contract as west ham to keep him? Seems a fairly obvious point.

Be glad if we manage to play most of our first team at this point

Surely one of the main things when you bring in new players, is to get them to gel as a team. Especially before playing in a new league. Our first Choice midfield hasnt played a single half competitive game together yet. Its not the best preperation really.

Be a good idea to put together our actual team in one of these games really, so they get to play together in a match. Something to try.

Set pieces sound class, just need him to get into the game in open play more. Having him actually play with a ball winner like tiote in a single game might help like.
