  1. Id rather go up and find we're not good enough than not go up atall, its better to be a yoyo club than a side who's not good enough to make it up in the first place. Id also imagine the better quality players would be more likely to stay with us if we went up and came back down, along with other players being more likely to join us as they know we've made it up just previously. All of it seems a better option to me than simply not going up. It could be a long time then until we got back up, you cant just say suffer for another season....it could be another 5 seasons, 10 seasons. Its easy to take this league for granted purely because we have better players right now, but they are why we are top. Not the name Newcastle United, that wont keep us up here. Anyway this is all based on the huge assumption that Ashley would even leave if people protested/boycotted in the first place. I doubt he'd leave any time this season with the chance of promotion & a chance to get far more for the club regardless of how many didnt turn up. Some of you think "well we have to try anyway". Thats what i think about leaving things well alone and getting into the prem, id rather we tried that. Just different opinions, i wouldnt be annoyed if people started protesting. I might be in several months tho if our season took a huge dip afterwards. Edit: Just read what you said about the chanting, think thats fine. Anything thats well focused on Ashley only, the issue comes when the discontent starts being aimed at the performances on the pitch.
  2. I dont see anyone having more of a go at people wanting to protest than at Ashley himself & theres no real reason to believe as of yet that we couldnt be successfull this season under Hughton. Everyones aware that Ashley deserves to be protested against, ofcourse he does. Its not about lying down so he can screw us, its about using our brains to workout what is best for US in the long run. The answer to that isnt always what is fair, but its what would have the best outcome for our club in the long run. Affecting such an important season in the wrong way isnt beneficial to us even if we get Ashley out. We could have a great owner next season & a great manager, with the standard of players we'd have left/be able to get in we'd have far less chance of promotion than we have this season. They'll near all be off if we dont go up. Id rather us not be yet another big side who gets stuck in the lower divisions because they couldnt get out quickly enough. Our short term future as a club could rest more on the result of this season, than it does on whether Ashley is here or not. As irritatingly moronic as his decisions may be in that time.
  3. It didnt single handedly destroy our season but it hardly helped. Everything about last season was a royal disaster, all us fans feeling sorry for ourselves, the side underperforming and getting slated for it, constant mistakes from the players because of the increased level of pressure they were under. Then self belief & confidence goes, which we then slate even more. That mentality is hardly going to breed success & i think its better that we stay away from it as much as possible. If people stick to keeping their complaints outside of the ground, it wouldnt have as much of an effect. The problem is that isnt likely.
  4. That's what I keep thinking these days. I am surprised there's NO organised and proper protest yet after the guy cost us relegation since May. I mean a protest which could bring the attention of the club and forced to do something for the sake of the fans. So how big is Newcastle United? You can't keep saying about this. Local fans got to show it, and Liverpool fans have done it successfully, from what we have all seen from the start to the end. I am not talking about who's to blame for the relegation or what effects would a protest brings to the game, what I am trying to say is the emotion and action taken by the different fans from different clubs. Theres a massively big difference between the mentality of our players and those of liverpool. They're not comparable situations. Everything from the managers ability to motivate, to the players current level of self belief & confidence, to the likelyhood of our players underperforming and getting crap for it in comparison to theirs, levels of determination, the captains ability to influence the others into performing better, the amount of experience the players have, the number of players who are individually able to turn around games. You can keep going. Even if they were even slightly effected they have more than enough about to them to be able to completely disregard it one way or another, we dont. Not to say that if we protest the entire side will fall apart in an instant, theres more to it than that obviously. Results are always going to do more for confidence than most other things. I just dont see it as being helpful if we start underperforming & it could easily start a snowball effect of negativity if the mentality of complaining spreads to quickly. Negativity is never beneficial in any form & it gets around quickly.
  5. Always getting what he wants is why he hasnt gone yet, theres a limit to how far hes willing to go to get out regardless of how hated he is. He didnt purposely take away our prem status obviously, that was a side effect of him being a moron & the same with Shearer & Keegan. The name changing is the first real case anyone has of it really & i think again thats more a case of him no longer caring what we think about his actions rather than doing certain things specifically to annoy us. He's just solely looking out for himself at this point, he'll sell whatever he wants if it helps him out.
  6. Well we've atleast brought in a few loans & i wouldnt expect him to buy players while the clubs up for sale. Hughton should also be less willing to kiss ass now expectation is on his shoulders & he actually has the job. Hes got what he wanted at this point. Ashley controls the amount we spend, but hes not the one searching for players is he. The standard of players we find within a given budget is down to the manager, playing in the championship we shouldnt need that big a budget to find players who'll do a job anymore. Whether Hughton can find them is something else.
  7. Couldn't of said it better myself. Or maybe he's seen that theres very little interest at this current time & thinks that giving up for the time being and creating some stability for now will make it more likely he'll get more for us in the future ? I dont buy the whole revenge thing, hes just an idiot most of the time.
  8. Its easier to believe your side will lose less games than other crap teams, than it is to think they're good enough to get more wins than others. Last season we could get wins/draws/loses whatever and still be in with a hope of avoiding relegation. This season, if we dont get wins for consistant periods of time we're likely going to fall out of it quite quickly. So theres far less room for acceptance of dodgy form & the end result becomes more obvious if it continues. I have a hard time believing anyone is stupid enough to not invest in a side who looks far worse than those pushing for promotion above them when so much money rides on it, even Ashley, even after everything. Last season again we were very unlucky often, so that helped the misguided belief that we were good enough to.
  9. As i said, again - us not being promoted this season is far more realistic a prospect than it was for us to go down last season. Especially seeing as we did actually go down, he'll have a harder time being naive about the situation now. Hughton will be able to use that against him also. Who we brought in was down to the manager, Given wouldnt have gone had he not handed in a request & Nzogbia was moaning also at that point. Regardless our side had the quality to stay up last season with the players we had, it wasnt down to us having players that werent good enough it was down to those players performing like crap & at not even half of their best. I havent said anything about the 20mill hes putting in soon.
  10. Said it already in another thread. But if we're not in the top two, i think even he would become desperate enough to bring some in. Theres to much riding on it for him & its a more realistic prospect that we wont get promoted this season than it was that we'd go down in the last.
  11. I think hes wants to sell far more now than he did the first time he put us up. Hes already appointed the cheap manager & i doubt we'll be selling any/many players in january. Hes just as desperate to go up as we are, we're worth far more to him promoted than he'll get selling off a couple of championship players. I think we've a very good chance of promotion at this point, so i think the fans not turning up could clearly have an unneeded negative effect. And yes i even remain hopeful that he might actually spend some money in january.
  12. Well sure if you want to make up unrealistic nonsense then get upset about the idea of it happening?
  13. I imagine/hope he'll sell if we go up. Theres been no reason to suggest he wouldnt, all he's shown is that he isnt willing to further drop the price he wants for the club. If someone had offered what he wanted he'd already be gone, there just wasnt enough interest. There will be if we go up. Having said that, i also expect he'll draw it out over the summer and waste a lot of the transfer window as usual. But that doesnt change much.
  14. It doesnt matter whether its an if or not, its very possible. More possible than it will be next season if we dont get promoted, regardless of whether hes here or not. Even if we went up and got relegated again, we'd likely be left in a better position than we will if we cock up this season.
  15. Krul may not be to happy. Outside of that several of them had been saying for a while that they wanted Hughton as the manager, that isnt something they have to say to the media. Its not the same as just giving some positive comments when asked questions. They're working with the guy, getting wins & enjoying themselves. For the time being, i expect many of them are happy at the appointment.
  16. The best hope you have of getting him out any time soon is destroying our chance of promotion. If you do that you're screwing the club more than he is. What a brilliant plan
  17. do you realise, our future could be at stake with this man? Even if we got him out months from now, if we do not get promoted this season it wont matter a large amount. This is the best chance at promotion that we will get. We will lose the majority of players that currently have us challenging if we dont achieve it, our name is not the reason we are top of the league right now. I put the importance of this season over that of getting him out at this point, i think he'll be looking to go soon anyway. Even if we got promoted & then relegated, we'd be in a better position than not getting promoted atall. I dont see anything being worth potentially damaging this season.
  18. It was based on the idea that we'd be doing things that were unlikely to effect the players. If you think thats unlikely to effect the players you're a madman. You do realise the importance of this season?
  19. I think its more a case that you're desperate to do something regardless of the consequences because you dont like the lack of control we have over the situation. Protests arent going to make the guy uncomfortable, at best you'll have him avoiding matches. He'll hardly be devastated, the potential consequences to our season far outweigh him being a little more annoyed. He will sell either way when someone stumps up enough money, no one has. He isnt going to be willing to drop the asking price by another 20 mill like moat wants just because hes having to miss a few games.
  20. It didnt help but it was worth it at the time. There was the hope that it would force action & Ashley did try to get Keegan back in his own moronic way. At this point the guy is so far past caring about getting any form of positive response from the fans that i doubt he's even aware its possible anymore. He is purely looking out for himself & the only things you can really do to make him take any notice will also likely have a negative effect on our season.
  21. He should have learnt from it. He's more desperate to get out now & he'll be very aware of the important of getting up if he wants to do that any time soon. It was also more unthinkable last season that we'd get relegated than it is this season that we wont get promoted. As i say it'll depend on where we are in the table though, if we're barely 1st/2nd he very well may just risk it once again yes.
  22. hit the nail on the head there, if fan's believe that players performance's are affected by protests etc players should not care about what's happening off the pitch, because they are locked in a world that's so far away from what is happening So we lost to hull last season purely because Hughton somehow managed to get all the players to completely disregard everything theyd learn from keegan for months and months? no Negativity of any form will affect the players ofcourse and it will also affect the fans. The fans that go to these protests will then enjoy voicing their opinions so strongly and that mentality will spread, these same people will then end up voicing these same opinions at the games regardless of all the good intent "support the lads always" talk. Hughton will be seen as standing beside Ashley, so he will get booed with the slightest hint of things going wrong...certain people will also be far more ready to jump on the players than they would usually. Its naive as hell to think the players wouldnt be affected by protests.
