Last 3 games now with that formation we've scored only one goal each game. Butt coming in is probably largely the reason that tonight that wasnt good enough. But we shouldnt need to be relying on that to be good enough in the first place. We have there a side currently capable of winning games by far more than 1-0. Its acceptable only when theres no other strikers, that clearly wasnt the case tonight atall.

Newcastle United V Plymouth Argyle Pre-Match Thread - 19/09/09- 3pm KO

Is what id go for. Perhaps switching Guthrie with Barton as i still think he can be more useful than he has been by far. -
This might actually be the ultimate nightmare scenario as it will likely mean a midfield duo of Butt and Smith. Do you actually want us to go down another league? Do you understand that any midfield duo that includes Butt is doomed to eternal failure. Yes, even Butt and Gerrard. You would seriously sign off on a midfield duo that includes Butt? You scare me. Ive no idea what you're waffling on about really. What im saying is that Nicky Butt had little to do with why we lost tonight, that doesnt mean he helped. That doesnt mean im suggesting that hes our new saviour and should be the base of our side. It means he isnt the reason we lost. Look at the cardiff match. We were dominated for the large majority of the game because of the tactics combined with the formation, that was without Butt playing. Sure this time Butt being in there may have made it even easier for the opposition...but you're looking at the small points and ignoring the whole set up putting us on the backfoot in the first place to create that problem. The issue is we give the ball away endlessly. You could leave Butt out, play with 10 men & id expect that midfield to have more time on the ball than they did tonight.

So you believe that you shouldnt criticize a persons actions atall, if previously they were doing well & you have no alternatives. Bit strange that tbh.
-
Im gonna keep hammering away at this point But if Hughton puts two upfront tonight, we dont lose whether Butts playing or not. Butt isnt the reason we lost tonight atall.
-
Ive been reasonably behind Hughton being manager up until last few games. Reactions just change with a persons actions dont they. Few pages ago in this thread i was complementing the guy for all the great decisions he was making, last two games he's looked clueless. I dont understand how common sense doesnt dictate that if your sides going to play long balls you dont leave one lad upfront. He should have changed the formation from the 10th minute or so. Kinnear did the same nonsense, stuck with the same inefficient crap even when we were being destroyed. Its not good enough to have a few lads swap positions if the entire set up is bollocks to start with.
-
Can only go off the radio, didnt sound like he made any telling contributions. Nothing in comparison to smith & prob gave it away a few times going fowards. This compares in no way to the negative impact of the entire set up of formation by Hughton though.

Well thats not a "sorry i was clearly being a tit", but if thats what you meant fair enough.

Two disasters in a row Get a fuckin' grip man. And you disagree how ? Hughton made disasterous decisions against Cardiff, hes done the same again tonight. The Cardiff win is more down to a combination of us being lucky & the players than Hughton doing anything. I disagree that a win can be a "disaster". Yes there are points that raise concern, but to call a win against a decent team a disaster is, to me, laughable. Except i didnt suggest the result was a disaster did i. I said Hughtons had two disasters in a row.
-
Its a terrible result regardless. Any game we play like that & hughton makeas those decisions is a terrible result.

Laughable. Completely laughable.

Two disasters in a row Answer me this: how can a 0-1 win away from home be a disaster? When it leads to the next side you play also learning how to piss all over you ?
-
People to blame for this result Hughton>Butt
-
Has more than likely lost us this game. Two disasters in a row. Looks clueless again. :thdn: :thdn:
-
He already was. Hughton put him there about 5 mins after he came on
-
It's because we went into this game looking for a draw we are getting this result tbh. Exactly
-
Hughtons moved lovenkrands to left wing, pushes Nolan into an upfront position next to Carroll. Idiot.
-
Or one that puts up a decent formation in the first place. Butt playing in this match has little to do with anything
-
Hughton finally sends another lad upfront. A couple goals to late mate. Couldnt have been more obvious from the first 10 minutes of the game.
-
We should never be trying to hold on for a draw. If we look like we need to, we should be changing things not accepting it.
-
"Simpson, long ball fowards. Now Blackpool have it.......................(5 seconds later).......................good save again stephen harper." It couldnt be more obvious
