Just because we now have a complete crisis at the back (induced by not spending in the first place) doesn't mean we don't need a striker any more. That will be the excuse though when we bring in a defender to replace the one we've lost for the season, we'll still be short on players like we were when the season started.

I'm trying to think, have we been linked to anyone else? These 3 are the only ones that have been linked persistently recently, which fits into our model of having 3 in mind.

I've seen neither, but I prefer Giroud due to his rugged, Cabaye-esque good looks. Phooar, he does look good.

Think I'd prefer De Jong to Giroud. Not really based on much, probably because I've never seen the latter play.

See, this is what will happen now. We've waited a year and a half for a new striker but now they've got a ready made excuse not to get once since we're even more desperate elsewhere. It's not like we've already spent one entire transfer window floundering about and ending up with nowt. This one seemed to be in the pipeline for months and was likely because the player was forcing it through, if we don't already have a backup in motion then do you have faith in us opening up negotiations for somebody else and getting it done?
