  1. He's really good but I agree overrated. He's behind Ronado, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and probably a couple of others IMO.
  2. I can't remember anyone comparing Jonas to Kaka like. Edit- Never mind, I thought Kaka had scored and you were taking the mick out of Jonas.
  3. He's playing isn't he? Maybe that's why he wanted to stay? To play football and a great club. Top players don't want to play in mickey mouse leagues like serie a.
  4. Peterborough are another team you watch often Ronaldo?
  5. Kadar's description is hardly mental: What's so bad about that?
  6. The Leeds fans I've spoken to (only a couple to be fair) seem a little bitter. They aren't exactly chuffed to be getting rid. After all, Beckford is a 20 goal a season striker in the Championship.
  7. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1240296/THE-LIST-The-50-footballers-wed-like-snapped-Premier-League-clubs-transfer-window-Nos-50-41.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1240562/THE-LIST-The-50-footballers-wed-like-snapped-Premier-League-clubs-transfer-window-Nos-40-31.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1240835/THE-LIST-The-50-footballers-wed-like-snapped-Premier-League-clubs-transfer-window-Nos-30-21.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1241082/THE-LIST-The-50-footballers-wed-like-snapped-Premier-League-clubs-transfer-window-Nos-20-11.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1241410/THE-LIST-The-50-footballers-wed-like-snapped-Premier-League-clubs-transfer-window-Nos-10-1.html The Mail's '50 footballers we'd like to see snapped by PL in the transfer window. I love it how they start off naming players like Kadar and Carroll and by the end it's just Messi, Iniesta etc. They should have just listed the top 50 players playing outside the PL.
  8. I didn't watch the game, and it's not the best website, but goal.com disagrees: http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2010/01/09/1735587/player-ratings-sevilla-1-2-racing-santander Sounds familiar.
  9. He started 17 games did he? Has he scored from coming off the bench or not? If so you would have to take those goals away from your calculations. Exactly. Carroll scored 3 in 5 starts last season in the PL but I can't see Ronaldo calling in a one in two striker...
  10. macca, good arguments, we could go round in circles, but I'd ask again, why isn't Beckford even in a Championship team at all? There are arguments against both Chopra and Beckford and ideally we'd have other targets as well. I just think in a head to head between them, I think I might plump for Chopra. I just don't understand the view that Chopra is some washed up has been whilst Beckford is a striker that will score goals whichever league he is in.
  11. @ Skirge I said it wasn't a very good argument because Beckford has never had the chance to play higher than League 1 football. He's older than Chopra though (by a few days I admit), so why not? Chopra seems to have tarnished his reputation because he hasn't got a one in two record in the PL. Beckford hasn't even got a one in two record in the Championship, let's see if he can do that first. I'm not writing Beckford off and I really hope he scores bucket loads for us in the Championship and PL if he signs, let's not go on as if he's the best striker available though. @ Jonny Read my post properly: "Not a very strong argument because Beckford hasn't had chances at the higher levels", I realise that. I just don't see the logic in giving Beckford the benefit of the doubt because he's never played PL football (remember we could say this about most League strikers) over Chopra (who is the same age) and has scored a few goals at PL level. As I said, if Chopra had never played in the PL I'm sure everyone would be saying the same things they are about Beckford. Maybe we should sign Rickie Lambert who's scored loads in League 1 but hasn't had a chance in the PL?
  12. Chopra (Age 26) PL goals: 9 Championship goals: 42 Beckford (Age 26) PL goals: 0 Championship goals: 0 Not a very strong argument because Beckford hasn't had chances at the higher levels, but why not? Both are the same age, it's not like Beckford is some lower league prodigy. I wonder if Chopra had spent his whole career banging the goals in at League 1 whether people would have a different opinion.
  13. Yeah, because they're the only two available strikers in the world... People already seem enamored with Beckford who hasn't played football higher than League 1 but would turn their nose up at Chopra? It's mental. I know there are more strikers available, what's your point though? You may as wall say Hughton is an idiot for signing Beckford because there are better strikers out there.
  14. It would be typical of the amateurish running of this club for the past decade though. Fail to give Chopra a chance when he was on our books and see what he was made of, then buy him back for an inflated fee after he's scored goals elsewhere. Maybe so, but he's still less of a risk than Beckford.
  15. Yeah, god forbid we got Chopra (who has played and scored at PL level) over League 1 star Beckford.
  16. We have no stability and generally crap management. You can see the same things being said and Taylor, Carroll, Gutierrez, Guthrie etc. in the future (players who have their critics now).
  17. I'd expect players to want to play for Real Madrid to be honest. I'm a Newcastle fan so obviously biased but if I played for Villa or Everton (not that we are anywhere near these teams anymore) there's no way I'd turn down a Real Madrid move. Loyalty is all well and good but I can't help but think he likes the money here. Maybe I'm just cynical.
  18. So he wants to stay because he won't get a paycheck as big as his anywhere else...

  20. I don't get how people think Ameobi has better technique than Carroll. Shola is obviously the better goalscorer but that doesn't mean he has the best technique. I've never seen Shola score goals like Carroll v Doncaster and Plymouth, nor make passes like Carroll (v Ipswich- Nolan goals, v Derby- Taylor chance. Obviously goalscorers are more important though.
  21. Was reading Caulkin's twitter and saw this discussion he had with some Watford fan (after Geremi news): @CaulkinTheTimes and with a wage bill like that for a player who doesn't play, is it any surprise Newcastle are top of the league? #Nufc @CaulkinTheTimes What are your thoughts on this 'big club' mentality at Newcastle? Don't big clubs win trophies? #Nufc @onedavidlewy re Geremi etc, fans are paying for the folly of successive regimes. I don't know what you mean about big club mentality ... @onedavidlewy if you base size on fanbase, history, loyalty in face of mismangement, they're a biggun. On trophies? They're a tiddler. @CaulkinTheTimes Is the 4603 attendance for Newcastle v Cesena in 1992 stat a myth? #Nufc @CaulkinTheTimes When I went to SJP to see Watford (undeservedly) lose, there was air of expectation about the place and a lack of humility @onedavidlewy if you support NUFC the expectation is of disaster David. Since relegation,I've found the mood at SJP very realistic. @CaulkinTheTimes I had a brilliant wkend mate, fans v.welcoming and great night out. Just a bit of PremLeague expectation.
  22. He has been all to pot His impact was never going to be instant to be fair.
