Sneaking out of work at 3pm to go up to Notts and see this, will be nervous for more reasons than one during the course of the day.

He definitely looks quick on the counter attack aye, but I'm yet to see an ability to to play a killer pass or whip an effective ball in. Barton and Gutierrez were polar opposites as wide men which worked well as it gave us a balance but I'm not sure we can carry 2 wide players with inconsistent delivery and still threaten effectively. Gutierrez is clearly the better of the 2 because of his work off the ball and the fact that he doesn't necessarily just pass to the player closest to him. It's difficult to explain with Jonas, I'm over the fact that he can't shoot or cross and actually rate him fairly highly as I can see the job he does for us and the outlet he gives us. Hopefully Marveaux's the answer and Obertan can start coming on as sub against tired legs. Tbf to Obertan he's not been as crap as I thought he'd be.

I saw him completely skin his man at least twice today which impressed me, but I can't help thinking he's not a 'proper' footballer. Doesn't seem to have much footballing intelligence or awareness of what's going on around him. He's certainly a more than adequate squad player, just shouldn't be in our first 11 at the minute.

Just like Barton for 2 years Barton had shown promise at a different Premier League side though. Obertan did f*** all at Man Utd. And as Mr Ligue 1 you should know he showed good promise at Bordeaux. Comparing these two is so utterly pointless it gallops into the grounds of tedious. For a start, Obertan is a winger, Barton is a wide midfielder. Yes they may inhabit the same flank, but you might as well say 'Can't believe we sold Enrique and got Marveaux in like'. Hardly, since Obertan's occupying the same spot in our team as Barton was. I think Obertan did OK today actually, doesn't mean I'm convinced though.

Well what I'd really want is a return to the cycles of success pre-Sky but it's so money-orientated now that that seems long gone. A worldwide wage cap (something 'modest' like £40k/week after tax) with TV revenues evenly spread might even things out a bit, but it's impossible to enforce. It will be interesting to see the effect of the financial fair play rules but I suspect the effects will be minimal at best.

I have to edit HTML (for email campaigns) at work sometimes and I seriously haven't got a fucking clue, I just keep trying until it works. People also ask me about things to do with Excel at work and I give it the old "give iz a few minutes to finish what I'm doing FFS you rude twat", have a quick Google on the Excel issue then go over and go "OK, so this is what you do". They think I'm a genius on it, fucking divs. The trouble is when they put you on the spot and say "Neil, you're good with Excel" and you have to Google how to do Caps Lock in front of them, but still.

I've no time for the UK rushing headlong to be like the evil empire of the US. But... we have a far more "free market" football culture where the rich get bigger, richer more powerful. I've no interest in American Football, but they at least appreciate the attraction of a level sporting field - hence the worst teams get first pick of the best new players, and you don't get a handful of teams dominating. See, I like that concept and I don't like that concept. Negatives: it smacks of just giving everyone a turn rather than building a club and it arguably rewards failure.

Aye, just did a few searches and it's back to normal. Cheers Rich, you're ace.

AND significantly superior opposition.

Yeah cheers Rich - as I say it's not really a problem as such because you still end up finding what you're after, just looks a bit odd.

I don't think Martyn has much else on tbf.
