Part of me agrees, part of me figures that it just lets refs apply their usual biases unchecked. I'm broadly in favour of VAR, and one thing I will say is that it's removed any doubt over whether the officials are frequently incompetent. That ref blowing for time when she did in the Scotland game was grossly incompetent and a subversion of the game on a fundamental level. As for goalkeeping at penalties in general, it's just gone exactly the way these changes always do. Referees (by and large) suddenly start applying the rules properly (shirt-tugging at corners, 6-second rule, encroachment - whatever) and everyone gets annoyed because they can't, well, cheat any more. There's a flurry of controversy, then it dies down, then refs gradually go back to letting things slide again. Often to the benefit of the home team/big team. for me while I agree the rule should be enforced for the blatant off the line things I also view it as ultimately not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things, most penalties are scored regardless of how far off the line the goalkeeper is and so it should be left to the officials discretion whether a retake is warranted. Things like the french penalty retake on monday there was clearly no advantage gained by the nigerian goalkeeper being a bit off her line since Renard just missed should not be retaken

no i can't agree not with the mess they've made of the handball rule meaning there will be a lot more pens and probably every prem forward just aiming for the arm to try his luck next season. And all of this to accommodate fucking VAR so fuck that shit.

sorry but theres a distinct difference between being well of the line and what happened to the scottish and nigerian goalkeepers this week. It might be the letter of the law but its against the spirit of the law especially in the case of the nigerian goalkeeper as the french player completely missed so no advantage was gained and she got a get out of jail free card for no reason whatsoever

whoever decided on that rule change or more rigid enforcement clearly has never played a game of football in his or her life. Frankly I'm not even sure they've ever even watched a game of football. The retake alone is bad enough for being a few cms off the line but to top it off with a yellow card? Thats just insulting so in conclusion fuck fifa for trying to ruin football and getting closer and closer to achieving that goal and fuck VAR

it may be a bit tin-foil hat thinking but it strikes me as FIFA doing everything in their power to ensure the hosts win

    Women's Football

and this tournament has officially sealed my absolute detestment of VAR calling back a missed (as in off target) penalty by france for the keeper being off the line by a couple of inches tops seems completely overzealous enforcement of the rules
  10. Alan Smith, Joey Barton were his. Was Viduka ? yep them as well as Enrique and Beye as the good signings
  11. Who can afford him that would want him ? Real Madrid or Man Utd would buy him but Real have spent so much already are they going to spend even more on Neymar? Maybe some swap deal with Pogba or something but then again would Neymar want to go to a Europa League team even if it is Man Utd?
  12. iirc it wasn't so much missed in due diligence but never did it in the first place, anyone who did do due diligence before MA ran for the hills once they saw the books
  13. I personally wouldn't appoint Lampard if I was in charge of Chelsea not right now anyway but its not the worst idea in the world. With the squad needing a major rebuild and the transfer ban you'd struggle to find any top level manager who'd take that job on right now and iirc his assistant was in charge of the academy at Chelsea so should have a good knowledge of the youngsters coming through and you'd think they'd get a chance with them in charge and its not like Lampard would be hounded out by the Chelsea fans, not right away anyway.

    Women's Football

yeah I think thats likely, the gap in funding for the women's game between different countries is painfully on display atm and hopefully more evenly matched teams will produce more interesting games
  15. thats my stance. I want to be proven wrong but we've been here many times before so I'll remain skeptical until given good reason not to be
  16. Costing Ashley nothing It's not being done for free. Implication being that the new owners are footing the cost. only question is why? what would be the point of them doing it in such a hurry? sure there's some easy PR but they could do that over the summer its not as if the new season is next week or next month
  17. There is probably some truth to what they say, but I find Barcelona to be one of the most entitled and arrogant clubs in the world. honestly it sounds like an arrogant load of toss to me, sure man utd aren't great atm but neither were Liverpool not too long ago and now they're european champions.
  18. Has that happened with any thread on here ever? has any thread gone as bad as this one was yesterday?
  19. and what happened to him He in jail It does happen though. From the same article: ‘Many pointed out that far from being a triumph for Companies House, the lone prosecution throws into stark relief the lack of action it has taken against others responsible for setting up false companies – often with rather less laudable aims. The Italian Mafia reportedly managed to set up one UK firm with a director named as Ottavio Il Ladro di Galline ("The Chicken Thief"), whose occupation is listed as Truffatore ("fraudster").’ well are you going to say no to the italian mafia?
  20. what does a loan coordinator actually do? just keep an eye on the kids we're sending down the league keep in touch with them etc? Also I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Shola
  21. It's a legal process and just say it was a fake (not a chance imho), then the person setting up the company will probably be doing some jail time as they have also created a signed memorandum of association. and knowing how the world works it would probably land you more prison time than most crimes
  22. so can anyone with knowledge on shit like this explain it for those who are completely ignorant on companies house etc like me?
  23. could be repair, cleaning, or replacing them with new ones
