Today's the first friendly where we played something resembling our best XI and we looked very fresh and mobile; at least it looks like we'll be enjoyable to watch again. I'm not sure we'll be good enough to compete with the best, with so many new guys and some really questionable buys... When will actually buy a good CB? When you sack Pardew. Is Vermaelen going to start alongside Pique? I'd say that we'll start the season with Piqué+Mathieu. Always thought Mathieu was a left back? Surprised that Barcelona didn't go for more of an aggressive centre half like Puyol used to be rather than Vermaelen who is similar enough to Pique That's Mathieu's intended role.

I'm actually not talking about getting some of the pricey new guys. I.e. one of the reasons I won the drafted league at my work last season was because I got Lukaku on deadline day, who was priced at something like 6.5m IIRC. The merry-go-round of deadline day creates a lot of opportunities as players go to new clubs where they will start, and similarly others face unexpected competition. It's mandatory to keep your WC for that, imho.

Never, ever use your first WC before the window closes imho.
