  1. The problem is that a 5* UEFA rated Academy and the running costs that come with that aren't really viable for a League One club. It was always going to happen if they stayed down there for a few seasons.
  2. I think we have been incredibly patient, can you see the Man U or Liverpool fans being as patient as us? Would be interesting to see what sort of support either of them would get if they went 50 years without a trophy. Liverpools crowds dropped to mid 30,000s under Roy Hodgson when they were mid table and mid 20s under Souness for certain games. Can't believe some of the s**** I've been reading about them lately. 30 years of hurt apparently? In that time they've probably scooped around 15 trophies. Weren’t those attendances under Hodgson organised boycotts though? Yes and under Souness they had the Kop closed while it was made to conform to safety requirements for being an all-seater. The capacity never dropped anywhere near as low as 24k though. The "boycott" under Hodgson was to do with the fact that they'd slipped into the bottom half of the table. There was no organised boycott as such, just fans not turning up because they were crap (by their standards).

  4. My interest in PL football, and football in general has waned massively in this past decade. 10 years ago I was at every home game and 75% of away games. If a match (not involving NUFC) was on telly 9 times out of 10 I'd be watching it. This season I've been to 2 games. 1 home (free ticket) and 1 away, just for a day out on the drink if truth be told. Very rarely watch TV games and have now cancelled Sky Sports as I dont watch it. If this takeover had gone through it would have ignited my interest, not to the levels of 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 years ago, but I would have taken a strong interest once again. As things stand I'll probably have a cursory glance at the results on a Saturday tea time and not much more.
  5. Happy enough with that. He's come on leaps and bounds in the past year.
  6. That's what happens when you buy 15 new players every season, even if they are nomarks.
  7. Mines in January. Probably still be waiting for confirmation one way or the other by then.
  8. He's neither right nor wrong at this stage so that's a poor point scoring mission on your part.
  9. Still expecting a huge red flag to appear any time now and for it all to fall through. I am very pessimistic when it comes to all things NUFC though. We were 3-0 up against 10 men with 10 minutes to go on Sunday and I was thinking if we can come away with a point that's us edging that bit closer to safety.
  10. Burnleys goal difference just 2 better than ours now (at 5-0) and are only a point ahead of us. Need Man City to have one of their "troughs" on Sunday otherwise it could be a long old afternoon.
  11. With Norwich all but gone I'd love to see Villa and West Ham join them.
  12. Same here. Robert ahead of Ginola purely because he scored and assisted far more goals. Both incredible players mind.
  13. Sounds like those bloody Tories have stepped in and gave the PL a gentle nudge to get it over the line.
  14. Remember when he went on that mad rant about Newcastle last year at one of his Middlesbrough press conferences. Was really bizarre because nobody had even asked him about NUFC and it's not like we're in the same Divsion. He just went off on one saying NUFC aren't a big club etc. Great centre half, when fit, but I doubt many people are surprised that he's struggled so badly as a manager.
  15. Us and Sunderland were actually invited to join the Scottish Premier League back in 1992. Boro weren't as they were already in the English Premier League but us and the Mackems were both languishing in te 2nd tier. Was a big Sunday Sun exclusive at the time with the Chief Executive of the SPL saying "Newcastle and Sunderland haven't been invited to join the new English Premier League but they are more than welcome to join ours!" Scottish football was a lot stronger than it is now and away trips to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee would have been interesting (home games v Hamilton and St Mirren not so much so) but nothing was ever going to come of that!
  16. It'll be a no and I think that'll be confirmed by next Friday.
  17. Something happened to Edwards when Bruce was appointed. Always thought he was ok before then.
  18. I've said from the off that I don't see this takeover going through and that's still my stance. Maybe that comes from some sort of inbuilt defence mechanism or that things like this don't happen to NUFC but when it's confirmed as off I won't be all that disappointed (probably glad it's all over tbh so hope there's no appeal). Feel for the lads who were hanging their hat on this though. I can see 1000s just walking away, similar numbers to what did when Rafa was replaced by Bruce.
  19. That doesn't really concern me. North East football is tragic, and has been for a while. Hope Sunderland can sort themselves out. Whatever we think of them they shouldn't be toiling in Division 3. The mismanagement there has been a disgrace really.
  20. Aye, here's to 13 more years of being s***. We've been s*** throughout most of our history other than for a few years at the start of the 1900s, the 1950s, a few years in the mid 90s and a few years at the start of this Century. So about 20/25 good years out of 128! And here we have our best chance ever to become one of the best clubs in the World, but fuck that. We don't have a chance. It's not going through and it never was. Of course I'd have loved this takeover to happen mate but I'm also a realist. Quite a statement. I'm sure you can understand why I hope you're massively wrong God I wish we knew nothing of this bid from the start! But so desperate are we that we've got people monitoring companies house and airports. I hope I'm wrong too as well mate but I don't see how it can go through and the WTO report, which is what the PL are waiting for so they can formally reject it, will be the final nail (all my opinion). Lots of do called ITKs on here and Twitter who weren't actually ITK at all, simply persons fishing for likes and clicks will end up losing a lot of credibilty I feel. Weren't you ITK like a month ago saying it would be rejected? I don't really think the report going public matters much, the PL have it, if they have grounds to reject it based on that report they could just reject it. They don't need the report to be public. Also wouldn't make sense for them to be waiting for it while also asking the buyers piracy questions just last week. Premier League just need to cover their arses before rejecting it. The WTO report being made public is what they are waiting for. Tedious pessimist. Please go somewhere else and be as miserable as you want........ If you don't like listening to an opinion that isn't the same as yours a football forum probably isn't for you.
  21. Yes, like building houses on the training ground. Hopefully not. NE football has never been at a lower ebb. Darlington and Hartlepool, former mainstays of the Football League are toiling in Non League Football. Gateshead have had loads of problems and have dropped down the pyramid and of the 3 main clubs, Sunderland have never been lower in their history, Boro are a struggling Championship team going nowhere fast and NUFC are happy to make up he numbers and get the financial rewards that the Premier League brings.
