https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/kieran-trippier-didnt-celebrate-harry-12742079 Seems a weird rule like. -
I'm just thinking of Skrtel's performance against us in the Euros and how we completely lack anyone who could do that when we play the better teams.
-
I was really impressed with Trippier like. I've never really paid attention to him and thought him being RB with Walker RCB was weird but it makes a lot of sense. It's hard to criticise Maguire and Stones too much after yesterday imo but I still think it's odd we don't have one 'solid' defensive CB in there. I suppose Cahill is the best fit we have in the squad like so I'm not too bothered about changing things for future games until there's a cock up.

Literally no one suggested this? Also you're acting like this his best mate, it's not. He knew him socially. Also I don't think it is that difficult to imagine how you would react. At the literal very very least, you ask the guy. And that's the minimum. There were regulations in the late 90s. it wasn't some wild west free for all nonce-a-thon. If carver was such good mates with him, he obviously felt there was some truth in it as he wanted to get him out of the club. I mean atleast try not to straw man my in a post accusing me of straw manning other people man, howay It being 20 year ago isn't irrelevant like. I don't know what systems were in place at the club back then but I imagine they've improved a lot since - as has working with children in general. I'm assuming Carver wasn't fully trained in how to deal with this kind of thing but I might be wrong. The article says he 'took part' in a ruse I think. It's canny vague what happened, but it reads like a group within the club had been made aware of the allegations and thought that was the best course of action was to get him out. It sounds thick as fuck but again we don't really know the full details - it's all a bit vague. In any case I don't really care, I was mortal when I wrote my initial posts and have no real desire to continue arguing my point now I do think people are being too harsh on him given the little we know though.

Point out a single straw man. I have no clue how I would react as I've never been in that situation - I can just picture how difficult it would be and how easy it would be to be in denial about it. Without evidence and (I'm just assuming here) without the proper knowledge about how to deal with these situations I imagine it's a lot easier to theorise about what you would do rather than do what you would actually wish you would do. The 'ruse' bit is weird but then we don't really know the full info on any of this, there isn't a great deal in the article.
-
You've probably received better 'training' like. I might not be giving the 90s enough credit but I would hope the entire system around youth players is different now.
-
Even the Guardian goes with "did not take action on abuse claims right away" instead of "failed to act" man. Although "gives evidence in nonce trial" also works. He's also talking about things that happened 20 year ago, I doubt even he has a decent memory of how it went down. It's not even the title really anyway tbh, I think Carver is a total cunt but I think it needed pointing out that this is actually probably not heinous behaviour and that there's evidence this kind of reaction is pretty common. I think it's canny harsh to demonised him over it.

I expected him to have no evidence, that’s the point, he’d heard rumours. So what do you do if you hear your mate is a nonce? In the real world, not in the world where you’re some kind of moral prophet? I like to think I'd do the right thing. And I'd like to think I'd be raked over the coals if I didn't. And you might do the right thing, you shouldn't be raked over the coals for not though, <b> its a perfectly natural reaction to not know how to react in a situation like that.</b> Totally true, i'd be a basket case if it were someone I knew. I'd still do something, report it to the club, at least begin an internal investigation. You just have to, even if it's only an allegation at that point, the ramifications of doing nothing if it turned out to be true are too damaging. Aye I'm not saying you wouldn't like, just that I can completely see the reasons Carver might not have done the right thing at the time and I think it's canny unfair to essentially insinuate he helped harbour a nonce at the club without knowing more. I doubt I would personally, but I don't know. I just imagine I'd be too shocked to the point I'd be in denial - that seems to happen often in these cases (yewtree/weinstein etc). I'd absolutely hate anything like that to come out about a close friend (obviously )
-
He'd heard rumours that his mate was bumming the Newcastle youth man, it'd have been a total mindfuck.

Course it's a hard issue to solve, no argument there at all. But what you should never ever do, is nothing at all. Pretty simple and there'd be no beef with the thick twat at all if he'd at least investigated right away. Needed "time to digest", Christ. Time to digest the allegations he means. They were just allegations, rumours. If I heard a friend was a nonce I’d probably not immediately run to the police either, I doubt many would. I assume most people would just try and convince thenselves they were false.
-
Yous have no idea how this went down, and it’s guesswork how yous would react yourselves in such a situation. Easy to just say what you would do, but it’s obviously not an easy situation to be in. It’s nit like he had evidance he was a nonce and bever acted, he’d heard allergations (from people who also did nowt) and by the sounds of things never knew how to take them.
-
Title’s ridiculous like. I know Carver has been a disaster for the club within the past decade but howay man - the insinuation there is unnecessary. If you hear allergations that someone is a nonce you’re not going to immediately run to the police without evidence. You’d probably not believe it, or try and convince yourself not to believe. It’s hardly an easy issue to solve.

The original point if you look back was to put some perspective on the quality of the opposition, which is not great. Then you have two mensas here who don't understand how player registration works. Everyone knows Tunisia aren’t a great side, your evidence for proving that which everyone already knew made no sense at all. Khazri is obviously better than League 1 standard. You’re on the wind up I hope.
-
Really .... Khazari is their captain, a division 3 player, the club don't want to keep. In the first half they defended like a pub team club, unfortunately our finishing was at the same level. He was on loan to a Ligue 1 side last season you know nowt. Like calling Thauvin a Championship player. Hehe so because he was on loan somewhere else last year doesn't make him a div3 player right now... Hmmm guess you and your pal there know something more than me. Even if we play by your rules. Their captain (and most notable name) played for the worst team in the PL for 1 and a half season, score 3 goals in 35 games, most of which were not from the start, hardly a regular in the worst team in our league. He’s not a Div 3 player you div. not even sure what you’re trying to argue here, it’s a weird point.

I like RLC and he was really goodvwhen he cane on. Shelvey should have been there ahead of Delph.
-
He sits like me. Legend. Or possibly massively deranged.
-
Young deffinitely, think I’d start Rashford over Sterling too, although I really want Sterling to do something this tournament
-
Saw Spurs fans saying they wanted Yedlin back Absurd
-
2nd half was flat but there’s a lot of positives to take from that. Rashford and Loftus Cheek were both great when they cane on.

Rashford needs to start
