You seriously think if we offered decent money for Salah, Liverpool wouldn’t knock it back? If they don’t NEED the cash, there’s no way they’d accept it, imo. Stupid money, then yes, they’d undoubtedly accept, as that would outweigh the benefit we would be purchasing.

I honestly don’t know, and don’t fully understand the regulations. I presume it wouldn’t be seen as revenue and so wouldn’t have an impact on what they could spend?
-
Not through lack of money, but through FFP regulations not allowing them to spend any more at the present time was my understanding?
-
They don’t need any money. And like the other PL teams, I imagine they’ll turn down Saudi money out of spite.
-
Less chance than Conte even, I’d have thought.

The stadium right now is our home, but in 120 years there’s not a chance it will still be. Why are we even playing if not to win trophies? It’s obviously not the be all and end all, but to form part of our rich history as you’re stating, we need and deserve to have the club name engraved on silverware. Even if we move stadiums, the history of the club lives with it still. St James’ is the lifeblood of our club, at the present time- who knows what the future will hold for fans in years to come.
-
And in another 120 years after we’ve won multiple titles at home and in Europe, the public won’t remember St James’ as we know it. Let’s think ahead instead of in the past- In 100 odd years, it won’t matter at all except what the books say we’ve won. There’s zero chance we’ll (as a club) be at St James’ as we know it at the moment.

It doesn’t seem particularly clear cut to me? At his press conference on Friday, Ten Hag was asked about the rumours and he responded, “I have no response to rumours. That is also the case in this case.” Ten Hag can’t imagine Overmars leaving, “The td function is there for the long term. Overmars set things in motion here a few years ago, based on a certain vision. He has created structure and managed everything. That has started to grow. I don’t think that process is over yet. It can only grow further.” Asked if he was interested in becoming Newcastle head coach, Ten Hag responded, “I’m not into that. Now is not the time for that either. We are growing as a team during the season. I expect my players to do just that. Then the trainer has to set a good example. “The focus has to be on performing with Ajax, that’s the most important thing. Peripheral matters, rumours, et cetera, not.” http://www.football-oranje.com/ten-hag-not-interested-in-newcastle-rumours/

Been at 100 all week prior to today…??? (Sky bet is still 66/1 according to oddschecker)
-
Just can’t see it. I think he’ll be thinking he’s better than us right now, even with the Saudis- seems a right arrogant cunt and won’t be willing to take a perceived drop down at all. Might be totally wrong like…!
-
Lol….people were going crazy at the thought of ‘attack minded’ Fonseca taking over…
-
In fairness, given how the Fonseca rumours have gone from ‘being appointed imminently’ to now waiting for this new name, I’d guess at it being a ‘bigger’ name than Fonseca- hopefully we’ll all be pleasantly surprised.

It’s Bruce coming back to save us, isn’t it?
-
Nah, he’s moved on from being a mere manager now, I think.
-
Terry Henry with his able assistants Denis Bergkamp and Marc Overmars. (Some forward line, that!)
-
Joey Barton? or Cannavaro, Blanc, Ten Hag, Xavi, Kovac, Jardin, Crespo, Gallardo…?

Welcome to the forum, Mr Positive.

Its not about the wealth of the owners, but about the wealth of the club, and how that wealth is allowed to be used under the regulations. Clubs need sponsorship to be allowed to grow their finances. Without it, we’ll be left behind. I guess it depends on whether we want to be the worlds number one club, or whether we are lumped in to the elite group. If a compromise is reached and St James Park is incorporated into the name, I don’t see an issue. It’s either that, or at some point we’ll have to move stadium and lose the name altogether.

For “next season or two”. He’s smoking crack.

http://sportwitness.co.uk/dof-will-honour-request-interview-newcastle-plans-specific-manager/ this suggest otherwise.

Developing 42 players into the first team, and also bringing in over 600m in player sales since he’s been there- he’s right up there with the others imo.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10119425/Newcastle-ready-meet-Porto-striker-Luis-Diazs-67-5m-release-clause-January.html “Porto striker Luis Diaz could be one of Newcastle's first mega-money signings following their recent takeover. That's according to SPORT TV in Portugal, who claim that The Magpies are prepared to meet the €80m (£67.5m) release clause in the Colombia international's contract in the January transfer window. The 24-year-old Diaz has scored 11 goals in 20 games so far this season for both club and country in all competitions and Newcastle could now turn to him to ignite their campaign. Porto striker Luis Diaz could be one of Newcastle's first mega-money signings Reports in Portugal say Newcastle will meet his release clause in the January transfer window Diaz featured against Liverpool in the Champions League for Porto in September but it was a night to forget for all concerned with the Portuguese club as Jurgen Klopp's side ran out 5-1 winners.”
