  1. Lee Ryder just said on Twitter, should be a story on Ronnie Gill website anytime soon.

    Good move, always liked Carver.

John Carver has been appointed as Assistant Manager to Alan Pardew at Newcastle United.

Carver, 46, has joined United on a contract until the end of the season.

Manager Alan Pardew said: "I'm delighted to be bringing John on board, he has an excellent track record as a coach and of course knows this club very well.

"It was crucial for me that I brought in an assistant who I knew would work well with the current coaching team we have here. We've got a good solid set-up with some excellent staff and maintaining that stability is very important to me. John fitted the bill perfectly.

"It's a short term deal at the moment in order that I can get to know John better and it gives us both the chance to see how the next four months pan out working together.

"That said, I'm very confident he'll be a great addition to our coaching staff and hopefully, if things go well, we can make it a longer term appointment come the summer."

And John added: "I am proud and honoured to be able to come back once again to my home town club.

"I have been lucky to be able to work around the world with some excellent people. However, I have always been a fan of this magnificent club and the years I spent working here were some of the happiest of my life.

"I am looking forward to working with Alan Pardew and building on the recent strides that the club has taken to get back to where we belong, at the top of English football.

"I understand how much the club and the results mean to these wonderful fans and I am delighted to be have the opportunity to assist Alan in delivering them the success they deserve.

"I would like to thank Mike, Derek and Alan for giving me this incredible opportunity."

Carver was previously at United under Sir Bobby Robson up until September 2004 and even took charge of the team in a caretaker capacity against Blackburn Rovers at St. James' Park on 11 September 2004, winning 3 - 0.

John has also spent time in various capacities at Leeds United, Luton Town, Toronto (MLS), Plymouth Argyle and Sheffield United. He also held the post of Academy Manager at Newcastle United in 2004/05.

As a player John joined United at the age of 14 in 1979, turning professional in 1983 but suffered a serious thigh injury playing for the Reserves at Wolves.

He moved to Cardiff in 1985 without having made a first team appearance for United but did play 13 times for the Bluebirds before that injury brought a premature end to his playing career.

What a difference 4 years can make - made my day hearing the news today.  Club needs a fresh start.

  2. just seen Captain Fist Pump heading past Asda Benton - away from the training ground - in a white convertible Mclaren c12. Roof down, tunes up.

    Knob.

Talent doesn't equal the car he drives.  If it wasn't for Ashley he'd be a championship player on a fraction of the wages.

  3. If you've still got a season ticket, the question has to by, why ? Seems like the appointment will be Carver or McLaren or both. What have you really got to look forward to with either of them in charge ? And why do you keep supporting the regime ?

Since I live 5,000 miles or something away now, I gave up my season ticket a long time ago, but no way in hell if I still lived back home would I contemplate signing up for another season with that management structure in place.

I ask myself that question daily... :idiot2:

  4. Friend at work managed to get his 2 DD payments returned today. The money was back in his a/c within minutes.

    So those hesitating do it!

    This.

Phoned my bank yesterday, gave them the direct debit reference and told them I wanted the payments back for April and March. Got one straight away and a text today to say that the other payment had gone through.

    Piece of p*ss.

    :giggs:

Did you inform the club first that you were cancelling?

No, just cancelled the direct debit.

    Ta…think I'll do the same.

  5. Vieira was a brilliant player but is unproven as a manager so I don't want him.  If the club are to show some ambition they need to bring in a young proven manager who is ambitious himself and has something of a track record.  I don't include McClaren who failed at Derby and was happy to stay with them in the Championship.

Keegan was unproven, Guardiola was unproven, but both brilliant players.  We have had so called experienced managers in the past and bar Bobby Robson I wouldn't say any of them have been a success.  Personally I would be happy with the appointment - the man commands respect and I can see people wanting to play for him.

  6. I never understood why Ashley would intrust people with zero experience to look after such an expensive asset.

It is the ONE position you actually need someone who knows what they are doing.

  7. How do we get comp if he signs the contract??  :hmm:

Going to be here for 10 years just like his brother

If he signs you get a squad player for peanuts, no doubt, I'll be surprised if he signs the deal unless there is just no market for him. We did exactly the same thing with Inman, think we got a couple of thousand for him, that could pay off Charvers contract !!

Taking up a space from someone else...
