I'd be fine with combining for one regional super tournament every few years, but not for WC qualifying. I'd rather us get there having played against minnows than not get there at all.
-
Quality of the CONCACAF teams (Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama) improves every year too. I'd understand if the U.S. or Mexico got to the World Cup and were completely embarrassed. But that's not happened for some time.

Backhanded compliment if I've ever heard one.

I guess it's understandable, seeing as the national team only picks players from certain clubs, one of which isn't Newcastle. But then again, when have Newcastle had a stalwart English player in recent years?
-
Agreed. A real injection of pace and skill. Presuming Cabaye will be sold. I'd be tempted to line up: Krul Debuchy. Taylor Colo santon Jonas/Tiote Marveaux. Sissoko HBA. Sinclair/Goufran Remy Our fastest ever team ! Speed tastic !!! Taylor over Mapao, fek off. Been explained plenty of times why Mapou-Colo wouldn't work right now.

I'm still hoping for a U.S.-England-Nigeria-Ireland group in Brazil. Been some stiff words spit by Decky and Baba recently, and I always enjoy a good bout against England. "Not that any of you would care if they lost."

We're having a similar discussion in the MLB thread. There's a statute of limitations regarding championships. Like Newcastle hyping those First Division titles back before airplanes were a thing. I do remember... http://www.goalkeepertalk.com/uploads/1292247052/med_gallery_1990_3_211659.jpg That was like the Battle of New Orleans all over again.

There are like, 4 people on this board who were even alive then man.

Can't wait for a cool 1-0 England victory at home against Moldova.

Love it There would be paragraphs to spare if Jozy was from Nigeria. I'm just saying, Jozy would've bagged a first-half hat trick against Tahiti. The quality of defenders would have been a step up from the likes of VVV Venlo, Bermuda, and US owned Central American country #4, so it would have been a good test for him. I wish we played Bermuda more often.

I don't understand it all. Owen pissed off to Real Madrid and nobody in the country cared how he fared over there. This lot go on like they would love to see Dempsey top goalscorer followed by Altidore runner up whilst there respective clubs triumph under their brilliant qualities. It's because Americans are self obsessed and massively racist...or as they like to say 'patriotic' Do you want me to go find that 40-page EDL thread when all that business was kicking off? I'm just saying, I don't have a single person on FB who spouts blatantly racist, xenophobic garbage like the people so many of y'all seem to know.

National team was the first team I followed and the success of American players is important. I get that not many care about the England team, but it's different when you have such a storied domestic league.

I'm better than Freddy Adu. Yeah Freddy's pretty garbage. Does just enough whenever he pulls on the U.S. kit to make us think he's still got something, but ney, he's dogshit.

I agree that he's good enough to play in the PL. He's just expensive, and not particularly great, though I recognise he is young. It isn't a signing that is going to make me think Sunderland have done "really well". He's an improvement and they're paying for potential as much as anything. Not the greatest signing in history, but I also never claimed he was going to bring the walls down.
-
You actually saw all of them? Nah just playing the game mate Fucking guy. Listen, I don't want things to get heated. All I'm saying is that he's the new Drogba.
-
You actually saw all of them? He'd have you believe it.
-
As someone who watches him with regularity, he's good enough to play in this league. And I don't just say that because he's American.
-
I'd rather have Altidore for 8mil than Carroll for 30. Would you rather Altidore or Cisse? Cisse's a better player, I'd rather have him. I think Altidore's capable of being a very good striker for a PL team over the next few years.
-
You do realize he's 23 years old, right? His move to La Liga was a mistake, but he was 18 years old at the time. It's not like players are capable of learning and improving as they age...

Especially with his previous attempt at playing soccer in the PL. He's not nearly the same player he was for Hull (when he was, what, 19 years old?) He's not going to burn down the league next season, but he'll surprise a lot of people. Much more talented player than he's given credit for.
