When we were first taken over at a PL meeting didn’t Charnley inform the meeting that introducing FMV that it was illegal? I wonder what are the chances that it is us that have threatened legal action at the PL meeting today?
-
It’ll go before a Competition Authority Tribunal more than likely.
-
I wonder when they’ll release which clubs voted for what? They usually do.
-
Certainly at boardroom level.
-
I have a feeling Newcastle and City will have discussed FMV at length.
-
I guess they could now take legal action, the new rules massively restrict us. I notice the vote was 12-6 with 2 clubs abstaining.
-
It’s the nuclear option for City which I suspected. Hoped they’d use.
-
If a legal challenge gets rid of FMV I’d be happy and if say Aramco wanted to sponsor stadium naming for £80 million a year they should be allowed to. Fuck the meddling in clubs commercial activities.
-
Although that’s from 2015 it’ll be in their new FFP arrangements with City, PSG and now us. It won’t strangle there revenues but will ours. I keep on saying this, governing bodies should organise competitions and not involve themselves in a clubs commercial activities.

Sponsorship is calculated on ‘fair value’. Section 5. https://www.uefa.com/news/0253-0d7f34cc6783-5ebf120a4764-1000--financial-fair-play-all-you-need-to-know/

Or we could lobby KSA for funds to build a new stadium as Ratcliffe intends to lobby UK government for funds to redevelop OT.
-
The kind of governance that keeps the old top 6 clubs at the top and prevents ambitious clubs catching up.
-
UEFA and PL rules however both embrace FMV and that by definition prevents clubs turnovers growing through sponsorship.
-
Add to this that clubs who attempt to grow revenue streams through sponsorship deals its strangled by FMV rules.

Sky’s take from Solekhol. https://x.com/newcastlefanstv/status/1754887485077737939?s=61&t=Yt8DTJJ-7Jh_ndgpdGSFKQ

these changes can only be brought in if PL clubs vote them in, time for other clubs to wise up and see these rules for what they are.
-
Yes, when I’ve seen him play for AC anyway.
-
Unlikely to happen I’d of thought.
-
Yes but I’d bet the 49% get their own way 99/100 times.
-
German football clubs have huge businesses involved in their ownership model, it isn’t the egalitarian model everyone thinks it is.
-
If they did I’d love to see KSA sponsor what’s left of the PL for far more than sponsors of any ESL.
-
The meeting is today and tomorrow according to the Douglas article or have I got it wrong?
-
Well we’ll just have to be happy with who we are and accept that the elite clubs have crushed any ambition the club, it’s owners and fans have.
-
If we don’t do anything then we’ll just have to be happy being an also rans.

It’s lengthy but worth a listen…….what I took from it was sport is special but not as special as it thinks it is given sports are multi billion £ businesses these days. https://www.blackstonechambers.com/podcasts/the-sports-law-podcast/the-sport-and-competition-law-podcast/
