Heading to the mackem game this weekend (dont worry I'm in the away end), the plans to be back in Newcastle for kick off. Anywhere decent to watch the game? I know loads of places will be packed out come kick off so dont want to be pub hopping because I cant get a beer at a 10 deep bar.

IF we go up he would have big funds because we HAVE to spend to survive as this squad comes straight back down, Rafa has a big salary , he's loved so why go anywhere else?

The same sh*t every year TBH. It's gone past the point of being frustrating. Yes it's great staying up at the end of the season because even brief euphoria is enjoyable but the following August just brings the same misery. We somehow need to break the cycle. If that means getting relegated then I'd probably take it.

I'm pretty ambivalent towards him. I hated his negativity, especially at the start of the season, but his record at Everton suggests he should do a decent job for us. We simpply have to stop sacking managers so if/when we go down we should keep him.

the effort and workrate is very high, something we need to match, like yesterday

In any season, teams will pick up one or two surprise victories and freak results. Our win away at Spurs, or our win at home to Liverpool probably two of ours last season. We also empathically thrashed Norwich.

 

Yesterday was nothing other than that, Palace didn't turn up and collapsed like a sack of shit. mackems are still favourites to go down, as they have one of (if not the worst) squad in the league.

they looked a team yesterday on what highlights i watched, they looked up for it, they usually do at this stage

came across  as loud throughout 

He dropped off in the second half (the Hayden change) but his involvement in the first half was key to a lot of our attacks. His hold up play was refreshing and although pace isn't on his side, he is important. Think of Shearer when he knew his legs had gone. Have a pacey forward playing alongside/infringement will only strengthen his contributions but that's not Rafa's system.

 

As for the lack of effort, there were two times in the first half when he contributed to an attack but then chased their winger back all the way back towards he SE corner due to a missing Ritchie. He also made some key defensive headers....but he didn't score so must be shit.

goals win games, im one of his fans believe me i want him to succeed, his hold up play is exceptional at times but fuck me man its not enough

on TV ( )  the back 4 looked miles apart at times, often i thought we were playing 3 at the back.

Need 28 points from 17 games, which looks doable (8 wins, 4 draws, 5 defeats).

 

Bit nervous about this run of games though - can only see 3 or 4 points from Wolves, Norwich & Villa and that's before those 3 awful away games.

i cant predict a thing, but we are in a great position, one we'd all take heading into mid Feb?
