I'm starting to think that our players struggle when there's any pressure on them from a long term target. They went to shit last season when they'd got to the FA cup final, they've gone to shit this season when someone's told them we need to get high enough to get european footy next season.

I mean this is nonsense. We were under extreme pressure to get top four last season from around ten games out.

Thanks for that amazing insight Nostradamus, wish I’d seen the quote earlier I’d have asked for the Euromillions numbers

So you first give a completely irrelevant answer, then acted the prick, nice one [emoji38]

Because Karius is leaving in the summer? ??‍♂️

And we'll sign a new third choice keeper. How does that explain the last two seasons?

He's been a free agent all season.

I quoted the wrong post sorry. I meant your point about Karius being the better option.

Nobody has bothered to take a punt De Gea. He's better than Dubravka as well.

What possible evidence do you have to suggest this?

Have to bounce back with a win here. Feel like 6th or 7th is all going to come down to the game at Old Trafford, but can't afford any more daft dropped points at home. I still get angry when I think where we'd be with those extra 4 points from the Luton and Bournemouth home draws.

People keep saying this but ignore the extra 3 points we gained from the West Ham game when we could easily have drawn/lost.

To be fair at the time we'd paid £60+million for a striker who'd scored 6 goals in 32 league games in the previous season. For comparison Nicholas Jackson has 10 in 29 this year. McTominay has 7 in 27.

I'm not asking his view last summer. I'm asking whether Froggy thinks it was a good price now.

I didn't gloat. I said it was a huge fee for someone who scored 1 in 3 in La Liga. It was a huge fee. I stand by everything I said. Friendly reminder Martial had more goals and assists per 90 than Isak last season. Isak is clearly talented, but he's only managed to make the pitch for 50% of your minutes this season. Lets calm it down a little before acting like £65m was some sort of magic bargain.

Also, Casemiro was one of the most important players in getting us back into the Champions League and winning our first trophy in years. It was hardly a laughable signing.

Wait - you don't think £65m was a good price for Isak?

    Updated 23/04/24

    Injuries:

Nick Pope - Shoulder - possible end of season return

Joelinton - Thigh - possible end of season return

Callum Wilson - Pectoral - back in training

Kieran Trippier - Calf - possible end of season return

Sven Botman - ACL - may be out until December

Lewis Miley - Back - out for the season

Jamaal Lascelles - ACL - may be out until December

Tino Livramento - Ankle - possible end of April return

Miguel Almiron - Knee - possible end of season return

Matt Targett - Achilles - news awaited

Joe Willock - Achilles - out for the season

    Suspensions:

Sandro Tonali - Gambling Addict - Returns from 27th August 2024

Why is Tino slated for a possible end of April return when he came off the bench in the last game?

  10. One thing jumped out at me on the recent season ticket quote:

    Quote

The club has once again frozen prices for all junior categories, while thousands of supporters will continue to pay prices set during the 2011/12 season as part of a long-term price freeze deal.

This is mental - almost 15 years of the same price set under Ashley. Do supporters under that deal have the right to just keep renewing indefinitely?

Wilson has always been a crock everywhere hes been under various different managers, I think whatever his workload hes always going to be that player, hes just made of glass, hes a quality striker and its such a shame but if we can get any money for him in the summer 8 mil plus we should seriously consider it, provided we can replace him of course.

Edit: Would keep him around as a 3rd choice striker if we brought someone more reliable in as second choice, but I cant imagine Wilson going for that based off his character.

Even if he was technically 'third choice striker' he'd get plenty of minutes assuming we get into Europe. Isak will pick up more knocks.

Just a reminder that a lot of people were happy when Longstaff came back start of the season as Tonali wasn't playing very well beyond his debut, and we saw a clear improvement in performance results.

Not saying Longstaff is the solution to our best XI, but fully fit he can be a valuable squad member with added benefit of being home grown for European competition.

Not even that but last season there was a period where it was universally accepted that he was the first name on the teamsheet behind Bruno due to his importance to the midfield.

Yet even though it has been obvious he is playing with multiple injuries for almost an entire season this somehow gets completely ignored when he is being slated consistently as if the period of form last season didn't exist.

For Longstaff, this has now been a full year of discomfort, far from ideal for someone whose game is based on ceaseless running. It is not just matches; it affects the day-to-day. “Sean needs to train regularly to get his best rhythm and that’s been disrupted,” Howe said.

“I’ll always put the team ahead of myself and people will either see that and appreciate it or they won’t,” says Longstaff

Longstaff ploughs forward. “We played at Everton last April and I basically broke my foot,” he says. “I played in the last home game of the season (a draw with Leicester, which secured Champions League qualification), when it was still pretty much broken and then, because of that, it didn’t heal properly.

“We came back for pre-season and we bring Sandro in and it’s like … well, you don’t want to lose your spot in the team. I did lose it because I wasn’t fully fit and then went through a spell where it got better and I got back into the team and thought I was playing really well. Then I got injured again at Bournemouth in November.

“It was a 10-week ankle injury and I came back in four. It’s hard enough playing with one bad foot, but when you’ve got a left foot that’s sore and a right ankle that doesn’t move properly, it’s never going to be the easiest, especially at this level. It is what it is. I’ll always put the team ahead of myself and people will either see that and appreciate it or they won’t.”

Longtaff had an injection last month to keep playing, to keep running. West Ham on March 30 was “the first time in a while I’ve been excited to come and play, just because I know I wasn’t going to be in pain.”

Hope people bear the above in mind when giving him dogs abuse every week.

Why wouldn't we? Burn is a centre-back where we have a shortage now, Targett will likely be sold?

Because we have three LBs (Burn will 100% play LB next season with new CBs coming in) and I don't think there's any guarantee Targett is sold either.

  15. 1 hour ago, Mazzy said:

I think this is the most important reason to keeping him for next couple of seasons at least. We can't replace him and get a couple of new CBs and a new RW and another ST and a LB.

Getting someone who does what he does would cost us a fuck load and we need to focus on improving other areas far more desperately.

    We aren’t signing a LB man [emoji38]

Best result for us that tbh - gives us more of a chance to get as many players back as possible and a minimum of 7 days between games until then.

How do we know what he's asking for?

Joelinton is looking to become one of the club’s top earners on more than £180,000-a week but there is a growing optimism that a deal can be struck as Newcastle have indicated they are willing to give him that sort of financial status. Talks will continue with the hope of announcing the new deal before May.

Only Isak and Bruno are a level above him in our squad , we shouldn't be letting our best players leave due to a contract dispute if we want to progress . We would need to spend Tonali type of money to replace him and is no guarantee whoever we bought would be any better . It's not as if he's asking for anything outrageous like 150k a week , just pay him what he's asking for .

I mean, he wants the same money as Bruno, so he literally is asking for 150k a week [emoji38]

Miley and Jo to return over the next couple of weeks?

Feels like we'll try to keep Willock going until we get more back.

Not sure where you got that from - both are out until mid-May.

Eddie's harming him by not taking him out of the firing line, it's beyond a joke now. He's a decent squad player capable of contributing but he's being ran into the ground when he's lacking in form, confidence and I suspect full fitness.

Who would play instead of him?
