If there's any scope to rotate then we absolutely should.

Of course it's an opportunity to lift a trophy but the weight of opportunity isn't determined exclusively by the very simple issue of number of games left to play. When you factor in the state of the squad, the fixture list ahead of us and the difficulty of the game itself, I wouldn't say the odds were so much in our favour that it would be absurd to de-prioritise it. The team is out on its feet already and we can't afford to lose any more key players.

We have to remedy our away form if we've any hope of maintaining our position in the top 6 because there will come a point where SJP isn't a guaranteed three points. Luton (a) is a big chance to get the ball rolling where that's concerned, so we could do without having to recruit blokes from the stands to occupy one of the wings.

    Dubravka

    Krafth

    Lascelles

    Dummett

    Hall/Burn

    Bruno

    Longstaff

    Miley

    Tino

    Gordon

    Ritchie

Rests for Trippier, Miggy and Wilson.

Trippier literally just had a rest, he has to start. I'm not convinced with Livra at RM.

I rated Gordon he’s got a bit X factor, never seen anything in Barnes that makes me think he’s an upgrade for the level we want to get to.

Gordon didn't show anything from January until the summer. Maybe afford Barnes the same amount of patience?

We usually start games very well, and we've had a lot of really bad luck when it has come to games this season. For example, we were by far the better side against Spurs and Brighton, conceded and then were robbed with two major decisions. Instead of being able to dust down and go again, we have the same players we've had for years who's heads drop and down tools. The same players that threw numerous top class managers under the bus before.

I'd prefer Ten Hag to get the chance to build his own team. In another year or 18 months, if we're playing like we are now then of course I'd be looking for a change.

Antony has been playing very well lately. Mount has been struggling with injuries.

I personally think Antony is very average, but this isn't the point. He works hard, as does Mount. Their attitudes are right.

I defend our own players perhaps more than I should at times so I get where you're coming from, and I see they work hard. But overpaid is pretty much the definition of both of those players.

I was interested to hear you say Antony's been playing 'very well' given the result last weekend - I checked back and still zero goals or assists all season [emoji38]

Yes, extremely poor form against the better sides away from home.  Do you give up on a manager for this reason 1.5 seasons in, when he has delivered 3rd place and a trophy? Not for me.

He's slowly weeding out the lazy, overpaid players. Let him have his rebuild and back the manager. If it fails, we're not worse than where we were before and we go again.

There was a debate on here about being patient/impatient with managers. Calling for a managers head after 18 months is madness, especially with what he delivered in the first 12.

Weeding out the lazy overpaid players while bringing in Mason Mount and Antony ffs [emoji38]

What has he said that's wrong though? He's not in any way saying Howe should be subject to a media pile on and neither am I as he's done an incredible job, but the abuse Ten Hag gets is mental given what he's achieved at Man United so far.

The guy literally has the best win ratio in our history and won us our first trophy in 6 years while finishing third in his first season and is being treated by opposition fans like he's some sort of clueless idiot. It's all a bit mental.

He is trying to suggest, with seemingly no irony, that it is an achievement that last year Man U finished above a Newcastle side that was battling relegation in the previous season. It's an absolutely insane/deluded take.

Apart from Tino serious question marks against the rest. Don’t think Barnes or Tonali look like what we needed, just more pace on the wing without any craft in Barnes and Tonali looks another midfield workhorse to me.

Our 2 blue chip signings don’t bring anything different to the table and that’s without even getting into how Tonali comes back from ban.

Give me Kone, Thuram or Diaby over the signings we made.

Big pressure to get it right going forward or PIF will rightfully start asking questions.

Incredibly harsh on Barnes given he's played five games for us. The same was being said about Gordon in January...

Looked at the goals again. I mean the first one the guy's 6 yards out, all a keeper can do there is spread himself and hope he gets lucky. Are people really criticising him for letting that one in?

2nd one - maybe Nick Pope can get a touch on it. Maybe. And that's only because he's fucking massive. This 'pathetic dive' stuff, completely disagree. You can't do a giant flying Pickford leap from a standing position so quickly, there just isn't time there, it was a good first-time finish. Would have been a worldie if he'd saved it.

I don't think M Dubs is Nick Pope's level, (but then I think Pope is an elite goalkeeper), but I don't blame him for either of the goals yesterday. I also have some sympathy for a guy who has barely played a competitive match in a year and a half being expected to come in and be in top form straight away.

The worst defensive error yesterday by far was Tino completely miscontrolling under no pressure and giving them a free one-on-one yet everyone seems to be giving him a free pass.

Absolutely nailed it. Especially the fact he hasn't played in two years and is unsurprisingly looking rusty.

Our fanbase has a really bad habit of getting attached to certain players (Tino, Bruno, Isak) and absolutely piling on to others (Dubs, Burn, Longstaff) and letting that massively impact on their opinion of performances.

Livramento, Schar and Bruno were all culpable for at least one goal last night and yet Tino's entire thread is full of praise for him while Dubs is getting dogs abuse for not saving a shot from 2 yards away from him.

I think you need to watch the 2nd one again it wasn't perfectly in the corner and his dive for it was pathetic

The 1st one went through his legs like a lot of shots do, look at the goals he let in at spurs and Everton too

The guy is absolutely shit....pope does not concede 9 goals from 11 shots on target I don't think any other premier league keeper does

I agree he could have done better v Spurs, I'm not defending that. I'm saying blaming a goalkeeper for a shot hit hard from two yards out is mental.

Absolute  bollocks there are many keepers who save both

I'm not going to blame any keeper for not saving a shot from 2 yards out. Could he have saved it - maybe. To suggest he should have done better is harsh in the extreme. I didn't see Pope getting pelters for the Dortmund goals and nor should Dubs for those last night.

The second one was placed perfectly in the corner with Dubravka diving full stretch - what exactly do you expect him to do

  10. I'm sorry but Dubs didn't have a chance with either of the goals. Blame him all you want for the previous two games but you're applying impossible standards to him if you think he should have done better last night.

Was Gordon definitely injured? It's hard to tell from up in Level 7 sometimes, but I thought he was still playing well and was our biggest attacking threat. Also didn't look best pleased about being subbed.

    Tight hamstring according to Howe

  12. 48 minutes ago, Wallsendmag said:

In that case he shouldn't have come on yesterday. If he is injured he's not going to recover by playing. Gordon didn't exactly looked best pleased to be subbed for him and our attacking intensity completely died after the change.

Gordon was injured and it was a must win game. We literally had no other options.

  13. Absolutely outstanding from start to finish. Him and Bruno dovetailed brilliantly. And there's people who think he isn't good enough to be a starter for us in the future [emoji38]

Why are people offering these daft opinions about his best position based on games in which he cannot run / exert himself? Absurdity.

100% this. He’s obviously being told to hold back by Howe.

    With one elite player.

We aren't Real Madrid. I don't think Liverpool, Spurs, Man United or Arsenal have multiple elite players in those positions either. We have much bigger concerns than that over the next 1-2 years.

  16. 3 hours ago, Ronaldo said:

So for the next 18 months + you’re advocating a midfield 3 with precisely the same issues it has now?

What issues are those? We have 7 CMs covering 3 spots, that's enough for any team.

Looks good aside from Virgil, Udogie, Joao Pedro and Onana. The last three I wouldn't touch with a bargepole.

Oh and the fact that the best player in the game isn't in the squad  You'll get killed every other week without Salah.
