I'm going to call it now (excluding the young lad from City) - we won't sign or sell a single first team player this window.

…but it helped. And it was part and parcel of steadily growing the club to the point where this morning a foreign player has openly chosen us over Bayern Munich.
It was in the FFP planning strategy insofar as every player except Berbatov was bought young and relatively cheap and then developed. Berba was brought in relatively cheap and probably always saw us as a stepping stone. Hopefully now we’re closer to the other side of the pond.
I mean, he’s chosen you because a) he’s never going to start for Bayern and b) he wants to move to the Prem. I’m pretty sure he would have moved to any top ten PL club if the opportunity arose.

Agreed. What’s the point in keeping Dummett to play 2 games a season?
Unless they are on academy equivalent wages, Dummett and co. should be moved on.
I thought Krafth might be able to contribute during the injury crisis but Howe rarely played him. If Howe isn’t going to play him, let him go.
Krafth is coming back from a season-ending injury ffs. It's obvious why he has been eased back in.

Surprised again not to see him. Don't know what the issue but there definitely is one. If he can't come on for 20 mins when we're 0-2 up against a mid table Champ side he's place in the squad seems purely ornamental.
Leave him out of the squad and put Alex Murphy in his place. Something!
We only made one sub until the 92nd minute tbf. Howe was desperate to win. Livramento played a minute. I wouldn’t read too much into it.

He was, aye. What’s your point ya stalker
To not condemn our players after their first few games in two years?

Why? He’s been crap for the most part since coming back. Then brilliant tonight.
Single handedly stopped it being a Rugby League score and deserves all the praise coming his way tonight. Shame the rest of them let him down. Defence have been woeful and placid, again.
Great again today

The worrying thing is that their best player is apparently up against Burn.
Eh, no he’s not. Their best player is Clarke who plays LW.

NUFC.com are saying he's going to miss the derby.

It's all fucking hilarious from this side of the fandom, but I'm not even local and I'd be fuming if that was us bending over backwards for local rivals like that.
Has there even been precedent of a corporate area needing to be made to feel like home for visiting fans like this?
Brighton do it in their stadium for away fans - but that's in the away section and just a couple of photos etc. Definitely not in the home end.

I'm not buying the Tonali signing as being a vanity one, but the Barnes over the likes of Pedro and Palmer points towards our signings being 'system' buys and not just how good a player is. I'd say P&P are better than Barnes with a higher ceiling but based on our 4-3-3 intense press Barnes was the safer bet.
Hall is the same, if he gets up to speed then he fits the profile of what we need in a full back.
I mean, we were heavily in for Pedro so we obviously did class him as fitting the system. We signed Isak instead. I don't think it was ever a choice between Pedro and Barnes, they are two completely different players.

It's just a lot of money for a big name. It's definitely a bit of a marquee signing and all marquee signings are a bit of a vanity exploit IMO. Isak was the same. Rice, Bellingham, Caicedo.
Utter bollocks. We signed him because we desperately needed a player in his position, as we did for Isak. It had nothing to do with his status - it's completely against how we have operated for two years.

1 out of last 5 signings have come from abroad that’s why I think that, the rest have been young British players with PL experience.
2 out of 5 with Minteh surely. And given that Tonali was our most expensive by far it doesn’t make for much of an argument.

The Dubravka haters should be embarrassed after tonight.

All those players were scouted heavily by Nickson I get the impression his influence has waned considerably at this point.
Not sure why you think that when we spent £55m on Tonali in the summer.

Quite worrying this with only one player expected back within the coming weeks.
An earlier return for 1 or 2 could be massive, more so a boost before the Mackems.
I hope the expected returns don’t hinder doing business in the Jan window too much.
On the plus side that’s only two PL games until the majority come back and relieve the pressure.

Barely done anything wrong? He’s been a bit better of late. But he was wank his first three games. Then he was much improved for a bit, 2-3 games was it? But today he was glued to his line again and reverted back to being glued to his line.
You like pointing out that Trippier has been at fault for 8 goals. Rightly so. But Dubs was shit for 2 at Everton, 2, possibly 3 against Spurs and the second against Milan.
But other than that. He’s barely done anything wrong
As if you are blaming the Milan goal and two Spurs goals hit from approx 3 yards out on Dubs man

The more I think about it the more crazy it is that across the FA cup, league cup and Champions League we haven't been given a single 'easy' tie in which you could consider resting a couple of players.

I suppose I could have been a bit lighter on him...
But you know what, bit sick of being overly woke to satisfy others, said it how I felt it after the match!
If he's old enough to play then he can (and some on the forum) probably take some critisism of parts of his game that need to improve.
... tin hat prepared
I don't think the word 'woke' means what you think it means...

Damn, so that really was just some flukey form. Enough to con us into thinking he was something else. But he's just average.
Or he’s been rushed back from injury and isn’t quite right like a lot of our players? Don’t be so short sighted man.

For the 100th time my arse. Only mention of it I can see was briefly in the prematch thread an hour ago and that wasn't official either.
It has been mentioned multiple times. Do your research before spouting off at the manager

This game would be totally different if we started Livramento over Burn. They're getting through us constantly down there. If that persists its down to Howe. Tino didn't deserve to be dropped to begin with.
He’s carrying an injury ffs. For the 100th time.

Is it that strange? By all accounts we can't afford to buy/don't see the value in buying without selling first. I have yet to see anything concrete that suggests we are actually selling Trippier, Wilson or Almiron.
I don't count Ritchie, Dummett or Krafth in the above btw
