I don't find John Richardson reliable, but that's the first time I have read quotes close to Ashley and it raises a red flag for me regarding the deal. Similar comments were said for the last 2 takeovers and they both eventually collapsed.

An Ashley source stated: “Mike is starting to think that it’s another publicity stunt, which will ultimately end in the club remaining unsold. He now wants those representing the Sheikh to either put up or shut up. We’ve had fake Sheikhs before. He’s hoping this isn’t another one.” Wow... I said it in another thread, but that's really worrying if true.

I guess the worrying part of that article is quoting sources close to Ashley saying the takeover is a publicity stunt then again we have had articles like that all week. I have never found John Richardson very reliable even despite his links to Benitez. No doubt the Chronicle will write millions of articles on this and retweet over and over again.

To be fair they have been backed into a corner themselves where not only their finances have been questioned, but what family they are part of. Yes and, in fairness, it may not have been them that leaked it but, judging by their response (i.e: very vocal and high profile) I'd say it was more them that MA's side it reeks of poor conduct from a corporate perspective. The whole process has definitely been odd. Didn't the club acknowledge the first statement? If so they would have pushed back and reacted with fury by now. One theory I have heard as to why they have gone public with these statements is to scare off other bidders.
