So, is this guy first team material or being signed for the reserves?

Established players like Anthony Gordon, Bruno G, Botman etc were eased in over a longish period of time.

Hall who has premier league experience can’t get a sniff.

This kid better get used to the idea of a crab like movement right into our reserves.

Does he have anything to do with his time, now he isn't playing/managing?

I've seen people who retire, from the day job, and go mental within a short space of time. He seems to be going through that phase.

He'll never get another job in football. Unless he’s figured out how to monetize being a right wing bigot, he’ll be living on welfare within the decade.

That’s my point, we don’t. The club shouldn’t, those cunty clubs around us will though which is why we should start taking the piss a bit. If we demand 40m and “whoever” is controlling the purse strings over there doesn’t mind moving money about, fuck it..

    Except it's not PIF money

I know Al-Shabab are not one of the four but they’re a club who play the poor mouth.. to say there isn’t state money flowing in to afford 20+ million pound bids for players is fanciful.

    What planet are you on?

If the club are looking for 30m or more, what’s another 5?

Maxi was 28m and we got robbed.. Miggy is basically on a par in terms of output.

It's PIF money in any case. Any fee that will be agreed will solely be for keeping up appearances. Which we’ve done already.

  6. We should be taking the piss with this one. Worse players have gone there for less money.

35-40m would do nicely and may prevent the need for any other outgoings.

  7. Gibbs-White is a decent prospect but he’s not what we need right now.. like he’s not going to prevent teams from playing right through us.

We need a proper DM as total priority.

  8. Really didn’t expect this window to be “breaking up the band” - it would seem like good business if we get over 20m for him but there’s a lot of assumptions that we’re going to upgrade.

This summer will be this summer but there’s a possibility we sign fuck all this month. Perhaps FFP margins are worse than we think and these sales are to ensure we stay on the right side of a points deduction?

I always thought the British thing was just as much club led with an aim of having a bunch of England first teamers in a few years time - Gordon, Livramento  etc.

Nah, they’re just class players with massive resale potential.

Well perhaps not Tino as we paid big for him, unless he becomes a Bale and adds goals to his game. (It’s a possibility)

Don’t think selling these any time soon is on the agenda in any case. Certain young players will be the bedrock of the side going forward (Botman, Isak, Gordon, Tino, Tonali)

I feel like Howe gets beaten with the 'British' stick more than he should. I think he places a premium on league experience. As most managers tend to. I think if he went to manage a side in Spain or Italy he would want a strong core of players with experience in those leagues as well.

I see it as more of a safe space, getting someone in you know you can communicate your ideas to clearly and swiftly.

The issue is, British managers with the exception of Alex Ferguson have won fuck all. They put too much faith in what they see as familiar.

Howe bought plenty of British players at Bournemouth and got them relegated. He’s having a difficult time this season and the names of players linked are mostly English.

I don’t think Howe should be identifying targets, he should be approving from a list that Nickson/Ashworth provides.

  11. It’s fucked, like they’re a hard club to turn down because almost guaranteed success.

But we don’t have to sell, and Trippier may not mind staying either but if that does turn out to be the case, how unsettled is he going to be?

But let’s look at the obvious, no official bids come in for a player unless the back channeling has happened first and a player has indicated they want to go.

Trippier wants out for whatever reason so we should just get on with it. No player is bigger than the club.

But it’s worrying that basically our club captain in all but official title wants out, it raises concerns about how things are going behind the scenes.

  12. Whilst there’s an argument that Barnes injury was a freak, he also missed some substantial time 2 seasons before.

It can’t be a total shock that he’s taken so long to heal. (Was a knee injury before where he missed more time but less games)

  13. Yep, it’s disappointing that Tripps wants out but he’s helped raise the profile of the club.

We need some leaders to step into that void because his influence is massive on the pitch.

If Wilson leaves I wouldn’t be massively disappointed, he’s injury prone and misses as much as he plays. Needs a run of games to get sharp too which is hard when you have someone like Isak playing.

As Eales mentioned, selling someone for 50 million opens up a chance where you could spend 50m on 4 or 5 different players so there could well be a bit of a spree at the end of the window.

  14. Realistically it would be a chance for him to win some Silverware before he retires. It probably won’t happen here in that time frame.

If they really want him, let them pay over the top for him. Don’t recall Bayern ever doing us any favours.

  15. Caulkin was riding a wave of popularity around the time leading up to the takeover and then after seemed to just step back but in hindsight it was clever, he’s one of the few who have never pissed off the fan base and just stuck to reporting on verified info and not getting clicks by spreading doom or horse shite.

As The Athletic are behind a paywall, I don’t think he has as much pressure on him to generate clicks.

The others are a bunch of charlatans.

Have nothing against him but the fact he's made millions from being a very mediocre footballer says it all about football in general

Oh football in general is such a scam.. imagine having a job where you do so shit you get fired and your employer has to pay your salary for a few years.

Steve Bruce absolutely loves being sacked.. in fact he’d get sacked from every club in the world if he had a chance.

Stadium naming rights generally generate a lot less than you may think. The headline figures can be big as they are usually multi-decade deals and it's nice, consistent revenue, but it likely wouldn't be a game changer for us.

    • The stadium naming rights for Spotify Camp Nou are apparently worth roughly €5m per season.
    • The Emirates deal is shockingly low at around £4m/year for the stadium portion.
    • The Etihad is around £20m/year (and likely inflated).
    • The NFL's Kansas City Chiefs did something we may look at as they didn't want to lose the Arrowhead Stadium name, so for $4m per year it's GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
    • New York's MetLife stadium (home of the Giants and Jets) is $16m/year, the same as baseball's New York Mets Citi Field. Both were new stadiums at the time, which is more attractive to the sponsor.
    • One of the biggest deals is SoFi Stadium (also new), home of the NFL's LA Rams and Chargers, for $30m per season (20 year deal). LA is also home to what I think is the biggest deal in the world, Crypto.com arena (home of the Lakers and, for now, Clippers) for $35m/year.

My guess is anything above £4-8m would get pushback (maybe £10-15m if we built a new stadium). It's a new squad player, not a shopping bonanza.

Good post, I hadn’t realised that revenue would be so low. It’s almost not worth it for the division in opinions over the whole thing.

It may seem like a catch 22 with out FFP predicament but getting one of those famous names currently based in Saudi could be a big earner for us. How many shirt sales is Ronaldo shifting these days?

We need a massive injection that doesn’t involve selling the Crown Jewels.

  18. Joe Willock is a massive talent but he’s injured so much.. there hasn’t been a season where he’s not coming back from something. It will eventually take its toll on his ability.

We’ve got a few sick notes in the squad at the moment.. from our longer term players that is. Wilson has his issues and Longstaff seems to be “unlucky” as well.

How many can a squad this small afford to carry?
