  1. I’d prefer Bissouma but the fact Dan Ashworth is here and we haven’t shown the slightest interest tells it’s own story.

I know JWP is a better player than just his free kicks but not sure where he fits in.

Our midfield seems like a collection of odd parts at the moment. Like where does Willock even fit in?

  2. I think that’s the kindest fixture list we’ve had in years, the hard ones are all spaced out and the start of season is a great chance to accumulate points. We could easily win 3 of the first 5?

  3. Had the weirdest dream this morning that I pulled my phone and dialled some random number, got through to Paul Dummett who said “yeah c’mon over..”

When I got there he was in a dark room down a rabbit hole of some RPG (oblivion maybe) game on xbox, he still lived at home with his parents and there was some sort of geordie Kirk from Coronation St as his brother.

He has no idea of anything going on at the club, including the players we were linked with and didn’t look at all bothered that he wouldn’t be getting much game time.

Then I woke up, no resolution to whatever the dream was about at all.

  4. In 96 when we signed Shearer I had this football game on the Amiga 500 where you could customise the team you were playing with, they had no official teams but you could essentially make a team with black n white stripes and then rename your players.

Of course I had Shearer up front alongside Ferdinand but this was before we signed him. There wasn’t much speculation on the news or radio iirc. So I didn’t even know if we were in for him.

Then the morning it happened, I literally had a dream that the signing was announced, woke up and went down to get breakfast/lunch (probably the latter as was a lazy teenager) and it was all over sky news and the radio that it was done. Kept watching Sky news on the hour, well 20 past for the sport bit.

The squad was in Malaysia already for pre season and sky had a shot of him in a club tracksuit sitting on the back of one of those airport luggage carts giving a little wave to the camera. It was absolutely torture waiting for the season to start.

Lille is probably waiting for Aston Villa to come on the field.

But seriously, is it harder to negotiate with French clubs than other nations?

Not necessarily, we’re just doing things we haven’t in like 15/20 years and that’s go after players that a) the club they’re with don’t want to sell b) a host of other teams with ambitions are also trying to sign.

How the club conducts itself in this early phase will set the tone going forward so am sure they’re being cautious as well. It’s not about sticking to a budget but more trying to fiddle it in a way that allows us to spend wisely over the course of 3-5 years.

I think with just a few upgrades we could really challenge the top 8/6 this season, maybe not top 4, but that’s probably why they are being so careful now.

Any club's fans will rightfully hate what has happened with us as it's absolutely disgusting. It's not our, or even NUFCs fault though.

It's impossible to defend on most fronts though, we just have to accept it and enjoy the fact we just randomly won the lottery.

What part of it has been disgusting? The white away shirt has been the only sign so far (sportswashing) that I’ve seen in relation to us so far. It’s all been Amanda and Mehrdad for the most part who have spearheaded every new initiative and they’ve been a breath of fresh air.

They haven’t shown any signs that they are about to follow the Man City route, in fact it looks like any success we get will at least have some home grown element to it if and when it happens.

  7. He’s cut from the same cloth as Verstappen, that sort of ruthless “out of my way, I’ve got things to win” attitude.

I think he’d do well at any team for that reason. Most of the other players out there don’t have that quality.

  8. So did he feel something and just have a panic attack about it.

His last tweet seems to show a scan didn’t show up any damage if this was the case. Good news.

  9. On Dyer, I heard back in the day (around the same time there were rumours that he had HIV) that he actually in fact had hepatitis, which given his liver issues seems quite plausible now. Either way, a horrible thing to be living with.

On poor auld Hugo, he got the thigh injury (hamstring) in February, suffered a breakdown with it in April and then again in June. Something is obviously very wrong there, he either got poor treatment from his club, or he hasn’t been following the rehab advice (which is another Pandora’s box..)

Demba Ba has a dodgy knee and that’s why he costed that little. This unproven kid is costing us 35m+. That’s a big difference

Demba Ba would cost 50-70m in todays market. He was class.

  11. If it’s a serious tear he’ll be out for 3 months minimum.

They need to do detailed tests on him, is it the same leg as before? It could just mean he didn’t get the right treatment at his current club and rushed back maybe. 4 months should be enough but it obviously wasn’t if it’s the same leg?

  12. He’s 22, he’s got time on his side. He can sacrifice 1 season, I firmly believe with the right additions we could break top 4.. and next summer we sign some proper firepower.. he’s be in exactly the place he wanted to be in.

If his agents are willing to talk to us I’m guessing they see the bigger picture too. We’re a better long term bet than Milan.

The story of how the entire coaching staff ended up with eight year contracts :anguish:

I don’t actually know that one, am afraid to ask ?

  14. He ended up being sued by one of them. God that guy was such a fool when it came to those he hired.

I can picture him absolutely shitfaced in the pub with some eejit with ideas bending his ear off, then the next morning writing down the bits he misremembered and coming up with it as a business strategy.

If SD was private, he’d have ran it into the ground long before he bought this club.

  15. For all the talent, something just seems off about this kid. If he’s repeatedly injured at 20 and then ends up homesick, could be a recipe for a Haris Vuckic style career.
