  1. Diego Costa is and will always be better than Chris Wood, even at 40 years old. Wood is a decent 70 minute substitute, and that's it.
  2. Huge mistake not signing a winger and another striker. Trippier and Guimaraes are very good players, but they don't score goals. The club is not in the middle of the table, goals are needed as much as clean sheets. 5/10 is my vote for this transfer window.
  3. After spending almost 100m, why do they need to gamble? Just pay whatever Man Utd want for Lingard, and finish the job.
  4. Surviving relegation with Ryan Fraser and Chris Wood? Good luck with that!
  5. The lack of signings up front will be a very big problem. Even with Guimarães, I don't think Newcastle is safe without at least a player like Lingard.
  6. The defense is better, but Ryan Fraser and Chris Wood aren't enough to avoid relegation.
  7. Let's be honest, the combo Ekitike + Wood for more than 50m is not good business. I doubt these two can score more than 10 goals together by the end of the season. Should've signed a WC striker for 40-50m, instead of two "ok, but not so good".
  8. In theory it makes sense, but have you ever watched Ekitike play for 90 minutes? I watched 2 full games from Reims in the last weeks, and to me he looks like a mixture of Crouch and Chamakh. Ok, he doesn't miss a lot of chances in front of goal, but he doesn't dribble much and is not VERY fast. He's worth 10m at most right now, Newcastle is being robbed here.
  9. I watched Ekitike aginst Bastia this weekend. I don't think he is the "new Mbappé" at all, he's nowhere near as fast and technical, but he definietly stands out in a poor Reims side. This is a gamble.
  10. Honestly, it only makes sense to bring Bruno Guimarães if it's to compose together with a player like Zapata in attack. You can't have a guy like that in midfield without a quality striker.
  11. The problem is giving passes of that quality to Chris Wood. It would have been better to have hired someone to kick the ball into the air like rugby.

    Diego Carlos

And no Koundé to partner him. I'm trying to figure out why Howe wants him so much.

    Diego Carlos

How good is Carlos? This is a defender who is primarily about carrying the ball and passing it, as opposed to winning it back. Per fbref, he is comparable to Juventus defender Matthijs De Ligt statistically and is excellent at bringing the ball out of defence and distributing it to his team-mates. But in terms of his defensive numbers, they are actually pretty poor. He is in the bottom 50 per cent of defenders across Europe’s top five leagues when it comes to pressures, tackles, interceptions, clearances, and aerial duels won. It is debatable as to whether he will be able to improve Newcastle on his own; this is a player who thrives when his team has the ball. Newcastle often don’t have the ball. At £30m, this deal for Carlos feels like something of a gamble, even if he is coming in from a top club in a top league. https://www.givemesport.com/1826836-newcastle-transfer-news-confidence-magpies-will-sign-66m-real-leader

    Diego Carlos

Diego Carlos reminds of the Fernandinho deal. A relatively unkonwn player with an advanced age and a very big fee that revealed to be a top quality player. Here in Brazil nobody really knows Diego Carlos, as we didn't know Fernandinho before Man City bought him.
  15. 3 very good players (cb + cm + forward) will be enough to avoid relegation, considering the fact the other teams at the bottom are not making the same type of investments. Plus Trippier and Wood.
  16. The club cannot afford relegation. We are going to spend BIG this week.
  17. I watched Ekitike last night against PSG, I don't think he's the right signing for now. He is very raw. Save the money and get Alli and/or Lingard. Botman is going to Milan, Maldini loves him. Badiashile is injured.
  18. Bakker and Lingard/Alli won't be too expensive. I think most of the money will be invested on Diego Carlos and a 50m CM. Probably close to 100m to sign these two players.
  19. Agreed, a realistic week would be: Diego Carlos + Bakker + CM (probably a 50m player) + Alli or Lingard.
  20. He wasn't good enough for PSG, that's why they sold him and got that kid from Portugal for 60m.
  21. Last week Newcastle formation against Leeds was gonna be: Dubravka Trippier Diego Carlos - Botman - Dummet Lingardinho Gaucho - Haidara - Joelinton - Gosens Zapata - Wood What happened!?
  22. Wouldn't be more effective to do a list of players that have a release clause between 25-50m?
  23. This seems to be the best way for Newcastle: to bring in good players from second rated clubs. Forget bringing players from Sevilla, Atalanta or Lille, they will only sell for double the player's real value.

    Diego Carlos

Kolo Touré, Lescott, Bridge, Given... Man City paid massive fees for them in 2009/2010. Going too cheap is gonna relegate Newcastle, for sure.
