defence hasn't excelled, cole and ashton are dominant in the air, and cole is making some good runs in between the centre-halves and beye or n'zogbia. might be worth getting Faye or Taylor on to help out, but it is always a tactical risk bringing on a new centre-half.

n'zogbia looks very dodgy defensively, but brilliant going forward, a contrast with the poor, pedestrian plodder that is Milner. where milner is contrived and slow, N'Zogbia is quick and effortless. Beye looks comfortable, i think he's had the better of Etherington, even when etherington cut inside and played a one-two, beye remained goalside. also showed pace breaking forward, tho his delivery when he reached the byline was poor.

central midfield has been ok, smith has supported viduka better than usual, but still offering little on or off the ball. owen has been quiet, not making the runs you'd expect of him. would like to see him pull wide more to create space, as he did later on in the first half.

Viduka best player in spells, started excellently as the ball was played on the deck and he showed improved fitness and movement, looked a bit isolated as we lumped it up during West Ham's dominant spell, then reasserted himself later on by getting it down and using his superior technical ability. two well taken goals. well, one well-taken goal, and another he shinned in.

Headlines will be about Owen and England regardless of the scoreline.

Plain and simple, hes a burden.

Last two games it's looked like it. Annoying if we have to sacrifice 10 minutes every game for him to realise he's fucked and has to come off.
