Cacapa - Legend to Boumsong in 11 minutes...

We've all seen that he is better than that.

He's been playing with a groin injury recently. Perhaps now is the time to bite the bullet and get that sorted, and hope he returns to his old form when he comes back.

Wasn't it just a case of him being outmuscled? Allardyce should have known all along that against Utaka & Benjani he'd be in for a physical battle so why even start him? Cacapa is better against more technical strikers.

In which case, Allardyce should look at himself today. Taylor would have been much more suited at centre-back against this sort of opposition.

The problem was just heart, Benjani wanted it more, and he got it. Whether a groin injury was holding Cacapa back I don't know, but Sam was probably right to bench him. Both times Cacapa started in front, both times he was left on the ground looking up at the ball in the back of the net. Benjani simply entered the physical contest both times, used everything he could, and won. That Cacapa didn't even check his run demonstrated the weakness of his challenge.

You can't really blame Sam for that. Cacapa just was clearly not mentally ready to go in 100% and he got absolutely showed up for it today. Its unfortunate, 99% of the time you're going to get away with a slow first 10 minutes but today it just went all wrong for him. Anyone can have a bad day, to use the cliche it will be how he responds that shows what type of footballer he is.

Before everyone starts saying Taylor should have been in he has hardly set the world on fire in the first half. Good effort, sure, but nothing remarkable.

Against a more physical striker, I'd take Taylor over Cacapa. I'd have thought that have four centre-backs all with different attributes would be to view the strikers you're playing, and choose the centre-backs based on that. Against Spurs, Cacapa & Faye was the perfect balance against Bent & Keane. Against Portsmouth where their strikers are more physical, Faye & Taylor would have been more suitable for me.

True or not, Allardyce needs to break his BBC silence tonight and announce to the public that Cacapa did his groin prior to his first mistake.

Or he could just tell some other media source.

Doesn't get the same public coverage. He has a duty to protect his player tonight.

He was outmuscled by Benjani, but on both goals he let the strikers in behind him. Just didn't play them goal side. Very, very poor defending.  But, we all know he can be good, so i'm willing to let this slide.

Not the same coming from an assistant. Likely to be ignored just so Hansen and Lawrenson can rip into Cacapa if it comes from anyone less than Allardyce.

he's a 30 something , capped by brazil , ex-captain of lyon.  He's a big boy, and shouldn't need his manager having to comfort him in the media.
