i think ironically we now have a very good defence, that is our best area. our midfield is average at best. take out NZogbia and we haven't got a single player there who has shone while he's been at the club, and no superb players. our right midfield is very weak, we have a average to good defensive mid but no attacking flair. we have 3 good strikers, but with no midfield to link defence and attack that doesn't really get us anywhere, and also means our defence is always, and has been for a while, under a lot more pressure than it should be. our defence will also need time to gel, which could see it being very good post jan hopefully.

Yeah, the defence is good on paper. I doubt the same back four has played together twice in a row though.

Which is why we shouldn't be a) chopping and changing every week, either for the sake of it or to "cope" with whichever relegation battlers we're playing and b) inviting as much pressure onto the defence as possible away from home.

For someone who supposedly knows how to get the best out of foreigners new to the league, Allardyce is making life very hard for four new imports.

i personally would have made the decision on whether to include cacapa against the mackems on how he felt post pompey, maybe allardyce did the same. i was very dissapointed to see him not even included in the 16 however. it looked to me like he was being punished, whether this is the truth or not it does not send out a good message.

I totally agree, it was more of a comment than an excuse. I just hope Faye's injury isn't too serious as he is the one who has the quality and the experience in the PL.

Christ aye, I'd forgotten about that, looked like a bad one too, if his hamstring's gone that's a few weeks. Suddenly I'm glad of the international break.

Agreed. Looks to be head and shoulders above the others at the moment.

Another poor performance at the least we were spared of having to lose to the mackems tactics and team selection is strange we dont pick players in the right position.

We definetely need to get a settled team going. Martins & Viduka upfront, Butt & Barton in the middle, NZogbia & Milner on the wings, Rozy & Faye(if fit) at the back with Beye & Jose as the full backs. Get em playing week in week out regardless of opposition, theres enough quality there to make the opposition worry once they gel.

Rozehnal looks good enough to me, but needs someone absolutely rock solid alongside him. He's the Ferdinand; needs a Vidic.

NOT COMPARING THEM FFS BTW TBH.

i think he's good, but PSG fans seemed to think that while rozy was very good positionally and a very good tactical defender he's absolutely useless in the air, and is a centreback with no arial prowess of any use in this league? maybe, maybe not, we'll see.

Depends on what system/unit/consistency we can get working I suppose.

Taylor was very poor and basically a liability again. Don't know how he escapes criticism as much as he does. That's why he wants selling btw.

His positioning at right-back is shocking.

He seems to still play on this image he has of being in the captain fantastic mould, and he's all over the shop, trying to be the hero if you will.

He's not a full back, he's not built, trained or skilled for it. If Allardyce doesn't understand basics like that, he's a fatter-headed cunt than i thought.

Sam Allardyce proved himself to be nearly as clueless as our past few incumbents on Saturday.

Note:

1) 4 outfield players (40%) out of position.

2) Our best left back not playing

3) Our best left winger, who has already shown a decent understanding with said left back, played AT LEFT BACK.

4) A centre back that Sam (very stupidly) used the press to slate, played at RIGHT BACK (where he was still better than the right back Allardyce bought has been). Oh, and the player the centre back was supposed to learn off, suddenly not available after a sub-Bramble performance against Pompey.

5) Barton at right wing? Fuck off, Allardyce.

6) Owen off/Martins on - again. Jesus.

If Allardyce turns around in January and says he needs to replace Taylor, its because HE has fucked him, slating him then playing him out of position, like an arsehole.

We all know that stability is a good thing, no point getting rid of managers, yadda yadda, blah blah.......lets get this fucker straight - Allardyce is NOT the right man for us, he is NOT the man to get us back to being a top 5 side (sorry Parky, no 4th for us), and staying with him is NOT a good idea as he is not going to improve.

Oh, and if Barton had carried out that assault on one of OUR players, everyone on here would be baying for his blood. He's not a great player, he's a knobhead.

Can't disagree with your analysis.

2 watercooled mainframes are chugging out the possible almost randomised positions of our players for Liverpool.

Chaos theory, Fat Heed uses. Like that Goldblum fella out of Jurassic Park did.

Doesn't explain why he's no good at centre-half either. Allardyce obviously wanted another big lad at the back to combat Sunderland's aerial threat and Jones in particular.

I'm sure Sam had his reasons. Tbh, I wouldn't be that concerned about Sam fielding a competitive midfield in a derby, it's the fact he faffs about with his team for no-hopers like Derby, Reading etc. that's a worry. When are we going to let opposition teams worry about us for a change?

look where sunderland are in the league, they are the derby's reading's of this world. we have a good recent record against them because we have  had the better team than them, went out and proved it.
