tbf Viduka has played 11 games in half a season, Owen has played 24 times in 3 seasons so Viduka's record aint too bad  :laugh2:

Its more the constant broken fitness with Viduka though, Owen has had 2 big injuries so he was out a long time, Viduka has just had s*** loads of daft pulls, strains and knocks.

As a st holder at Anfiels ive watched Owen since he was 16. He has always been pretty injury prone, firstly because he was so fast, at a young age, his muscles tore more easily, and then as he got older, because he had tore them so often, they now pull easier. Secondly he has always been the type of player that takes longer to recover from injury, and to get match fit again. Ive seen plenty of times where it took him 10 games, to "look right" after an injury. Then he would be on fire, till his next injury, which might only be 20 games away.

He is however a top class finisher, when he is on top of his game, and he will never lose that. He has lost his deadly pace though, so now has to relay on his brain to get him in the right place at the right time, but thats somthing he has always been good at. If you can give Owen Two good chances a match, he will atleast put one away.

Just a pity he always loved playing for his country, far more than he did any club side he was with.

Do you wonder if Owen might start to perform a lot better for us now he is no longer certain of an England place? We all suspect England to be his priority, especially as we can't give him top-class European football or mount a title challenge. When he thought his place was automatic (as it was under McLaren) he thought he may have thought he had nothing to try for, but now he really does have something to prove we could see an improved effort.

Owen is finished as a top level striker, he's an average premiership striker at best.

Said it before, Owen needs new legs, a new heart and to be made bankrupt before he can find himself as a footballer again.

That is way, way over the top, verging on the absolute bollocks to be honest. Im not his biggest fan, and dont think he offers a lot to the team overall, but in terms of predatory instincts he is world class. There arent any better than him in the game at timing his runs, and he does finish a lot of his chances. You only have to look at the past few games where he's been incorrectly ruled offside against Arsenal and Man Utd.

IMO he has been getting sharper with each game since his return, and will improve (as long as he stays fit). He's never going to be the type of player to take on men and run around all day, he's about waiting and timing, but that doesnt make him lazy.

Wasn't though was it?

There was only one was Owen was going to go.

Didn't he go onto be the third most prolific striker in the PL under Keegan?

Under Keegan he got 7 goals from open play in 17 games

hardly earth-shattering tbh, but it's decent I guess

Under Keegan we were actually creating quite a lot as I remember

Do you disagree with what I said about 7 in 17 being decent?  Or do you think that's something to be proud of from a player who distributes brochures calling himself a world class goalscorer?

Exactly. Is it really worth digging up an old thread about Owen to re-ignite an age-old argument that we all, deep down know the answers too. He's finished as a 4-4-2 striker, didn't have the heart for Newcastle, and he's gonna fuck off. Let it go - he's a wanker who sold us down the river but now we're going to see the back of him. Really cba trawling through Ronaldo's repeated statistics over and over again.
